In the middle of the night, Lu Xinyi jolted up from the bed with a pale face. She woke up to an overwhelming urge to vomit the contents of her stomach. Dragging herself out of the bed, she made sure not to disturb her husband and hurried toward the bathroom.
She barely made it on time before she started vomiting on the sink, throwing up all the undigested dinner she had earlier. She clutched the side of the sink as her stomach refused to calm down and hurled everything out.
With nothing left to throw up, Lu Xinyi felt miserable and disgusted as the acid feeling reached her throat. Dear Lord, why couldn’t she be one of those lucky pregnant women who never suffered morning sickness throughout their pregnancy?
No. Actually, that shouldn’t be called a morning sickness at all since it hit her any time of the day.
“Xinxin?”
Shen Yi appeared behind her, pulled her hair away from her face as she resumed retching, and rubbed her back soothingly as she forced out the bile from her stomach. After Lu Xinyi married him a year ago, she couldn’t understand why people called him a demon king. She refused to believe that he was evil until now.
“This all your fault.” She started to cry. “You did this to me.”
Shen Yi raised a brow, not understanding what she meant. Her legs were shaking, and it was obvious she could not move on her own. He took a damp towel and wiped her sweaty face clean before letting her brush her teeth, planning to put her back on their bed.
However, Lu Xinyi had a different plan on her mind.
“I want to shower,” she told him. She’d thought he’d give her some privacy to shower alone, but she didn’t expect him to strip her out of her clothes in an instant.
“Shen Yi, I can take care of myself! Let me shower alone!” She demanded and covered her breast with both arms as her husband stripped off his own pajamas to join her.
“No. We’ll shower together. I’m staying in case you pa.s.sed out again like the last time,” he argued.
The other day, Lu Xinyi had indeed pa.s.sed out while having a shower which scared the h.e.l.l out of him when he found her slumped on the tiled floor. Since then, he required her to share the shower with her and wouldn’t let her leave out of his sight. Shen Yi was afraid that when he wasn’t paying attention to her, something wrong would happen again. He didn’t think his heart would be able to take it if she was hurt.
Anyway, this was way better than leaving her on her own devices. Lu Xinyi was mortified at her situation. She tried to get a towel to cover herself, but he already pushed her into the shower before she could do so. She let her husband wash her body as she tried to suppress the blush on her face.
“Quit blus.h.i.+ng,” Shen Yi said,” It’s already hard enough for me not to jump on you.”
“That’s easier said than done!” she complained. “This is awkward.”
“Well, it’s nothing I haven’t seen before.” Shen Yi pointed out much to her chagrin.
“You really don’t have to remind me of that!” She snapped at him, fully aware of his hands scrubbing her scalp gently as he washed her hair.
Before anything could happen to this sweet torture Shen Yi started himself, he washed her hurriedly and turned the water off before pa.s.sing a clean towel to his wife. Lu Xinyi immediately took the chance to step out, dry, and dress herself. Shen Yi reappeared beside her dried and fully dressed, ready to go back to their bedroom. Once dressed, he picked her up again and tucked her in the bed beside him.
“Do you feel better now?” he asked. Lu Xinyi hummed as she snuggled on his side.
“Thank you,” she whispered, glad that her stomach was in peace now.
She couldn’t understand why women had to suffer nausea and vomiting, but according to Zhao Xi and her OB-Gyne, it was considered normal. She could only hope that it’d stop soon.

Her emotions hadn’t been stable since she reached the fourth month of her pregnancy. Every day, Lu Xinyi found herself saying apologies to her husband for unnecessary crying and yelling at him. His mother was kind enough to explain to him what changes he should expect during her pregnancy. Most of all, her hormones would be on an overdrive, which would cause her emotions to get the best of her.
It was late in the afternoon when Shen Yi found his wife crying over a piece of cheesecake she couldn’t eat. Zhang Qing and Jiao Jiao were standing a meter away from her, watching her cry over her cheesecake desperately.
“What’s wrong?” he asked,” I thought you asked Jiao Jiao to bring you your favorite cheesecake?”
Lu Xinyi sniffed, tears stung her eyes as she rubbed her small baby b.u.mp. Indeed, she asked Jiao Jiao for a piece of cheesecake; but the moment she took a bite, her stomach started to churn up, refusing to accept the sweet dessert she came to love.
“Hubby, I swear our baby is against me!” she complained to her husband.
Shen Yi opened his mouth, but nothing came out. He really had no idea what was wrong with her.
“So what’s wrong this time?” he asked as he settled to sit next to her at the greenhouse while the twins were busy working on their homework.
“The baby wouldn’t allow me to eat my cheesecake. Hubby, what should I do now?” She pushed the plate of cheesecake away. “Yi, something is wrong! Our baby can’t possibly hate cheesecakes, right?”
Lu Xinyi swore that her baby was punis.h.i.+ng her on Shen Yi’s stead because she sneaked some chocolates in their bedroom the other night. Now, her little bun wouldn’t accept any sweets today. The scent alone of her cheesecake was enough to send her to the nearest washroom to hurl. This was blasphemy! A great disrespect to the deity of lovable and irresistible cheesecakes!
Lu Xinyi felt so betrayed by her child. How come her baby disliked cheesecakes? Who in the world would be able to hate cheesecakes? Surely not her, but her baby just did! She initially thought that having morning sickness was h.e.l.l, but hating and not able to eat her favorites was harder!
“This couldn’t be happening to me,” she said miserably. How long did her baby plan to avoid her cheesecake? Would there be a day anytime soon that she’d be able to eat it once more?
Shen Yi sighed and led her back to their room to rest. Leaning on him, Lu Xinyi let him pick her up before closing her eyes.
“Are you still hungry?” Shen Yi asked when he heard her stomach growled.
“Yeah, but I hope our baby won’t refuse to eat this time,” she muttered.
Shen Yi didn’t say anything as he took a detour and carried her to the kitchen. Lu Xinyi no longer argued over his caveman att.i.tude of carrying her around as if she was a sack of rice.
It was convenient for the two of them anyway. Shen Yi, however, made sure that she was comfortable and let her do things in private as long as he knew she’ll be safe.
