The world seemed alright for now, or so Lu Xinyi thought. The remains of her aunt from the burnt-down mansion were retrieved and would be buried the next day. As expected, the Sun family was once again part of the news headlines for the next few days; but the Tang family easily filtered out the news that would a.s.sociate Shen Yi and Lu Xinyi over the matter.
Lu Xinyi didn’t care what the public thought of her and the perished Sun family because her thoughts were filled with Shen Yi. Her husband was moved into a private room to recover from his surgery after long hours of waiting.
She also heard that Li Yuren was transferred to recover from his wound at the same hospital. After all that happened at Saffron Boulevard, she wasn’t surprised to hear that there were casualties during the encounter.
Lu Xinyi had visited the man the day before and thanked him for helping her and Shen Yi and for all the troubles they gave him, but Li Yuren brushed it all aside and claimed that he was only doing his job, refusing to meet her gaze.
“Still, please accept this as my thanks for your help,” she insisted.
She felt that she owed him a lot but never questioned him any further. Instead, she left a box of cake on his bedside table before bidding goodbye to go back to her husband’s hospital room which was on the other side of the wing she was in.
At that moment, Long Feng entered and thanked Lu Xinyi for her visit on behalf of Li Yuren. When his eyes spotted the box of cake on the table, his eyes lit up.
“Whoa! Is this a Tier of Delight special cake? I heard they released a new version on their cheesecake line.” He told his commander. Maybe he should ask Lu Xinyi to give them special vouchers for Tiers of Delight later.
Who hadn’t heard about Tiers of Delight’s delicious cakes and pastries? It was almost impossible for him and Li Yuren to secure one whenever they were back in the city. The cakes were always sold out even before noontime.
“No, it’s not,” came Li Yuren’s bored reply. He took the cake from Long Feng and opened the box himself. A smile creeping on his lips as he saw the delicious cake inside.
It was the same blueberry cheesecake he and Lu Xinyi enjoyed. Thinking about it, wasn’t this the same cheesecake that made him meet her personally the first time? However, he was too late as she was already Shen Yi’s wife at that time.
Long Feng salivated and wanted to eat it, but knowing his superior, it would be impossible to ask for even a slice of cake from him. Who had known that this fierce and intimidating general had a sweet tooth?
It was really impossible for those who didn’t know Li Yuren that he enjoyed eating cakes especially if it was blueberry cheesecake.
“Can I have a slice of cake, please?” He asked, knowing that there was a probability that Li Yuren would shut his request down.
“No, Miss Lu gave it to me. Why should I share it with you?” His commander denied his request without giving it a thought.
Long Feng knew it! Li Yuren wouldn’t really give him a chance to taste that delicious cake.
Anyway, that wasn’t new to him, but since Li Yuren had to stay a few weeks here in the hospital to recover, he’d have to go back and forth to deliver reports to him regularly. He didn’t like that even at this time he needed to recuperate, Li Yuren still chose to work.
In recent times, Long Feng had noticed that his commander changed a lot ever since he met Madam Shen but in a good way.
“By the way, Zou Yin’s case will be heard in the court the day after tomorrow,” Long Feng informed him.
“Is it? Then I hope Zou Yin would enjoy his stay in jail. If ever he attempted to escape, I’ll surely not miss his other head next time,” Li Yuren said with such coldness, his subordinate wondering how much he hated that man.
Now that Zou Yin would spend the rest of his days behind the bars, and with Feng Zexian finally gone for good, Lu Xinyi was safe from threats for now. However, for Li Yuren to think of the possibility of Zou Yin’s escape too far ahead, it impressed Long Feng.
“Ah, then if I were him, I rather stay behind that place and be alive than step outside only to be killed by you.” He laughed awkwardly.

Lu Xinyi walked into the hallways of the hospital, nodding her head as the nurses greeted her as they pa.s.sed by. She’d gone over everything with the police with Kang Wei’s help, and right now, she just wanted to stay beside her husband.
Walking towards his room, she found her brother standing right outside the door with his best friend, Huang Shenghao. She suddenly thought that it had been a long time since she saw them together. Since when did Huang Shenghao come back from abroad?
“Yu Gege?” She called after him to get his attention.
Tian Lingyu turned his head towards her and checked her for injuries.
“I heard what happened to Shen Yi last night, but I couldn’t leave Oriental Bliss. How are you faring?” he asked her worriedly.
He also knew what transpired at the Sun Estate but didn’t question her. If his sister wanted to talk about it, she’d tell him willingly.
“I’m fine, but Yi would need to stay here.” She responded as she opened the door, only to find her husband still asleep.
Tian Lingyu placed the packed meals he brought with him while Huang Shenghao took the initiative to replace the old flowers on the vase Lu Xinyi left last night.
She knew how her husband hated the scent of the hospitals and thought that he’d appreciate smelling fresh flowers instead of cleaners once he woke up.
“What about Qing Qing and the twins? Is there someone looking over them while you are here?” Tian Lingyu asked, noticing her four bodyguards were still following her around.
“Xue and Xiulan are at home, babysitting our children.” Lu Xinyi sat on the chair next to Shen Yi’s bed, holding his hand into hers. She stared at his still form, a part of her wis.h.i.+ng he would wake up and tell her everything would be alright.
She felt a slight pressure on her shoulder and looked up. Her brother was standing behind her with a calm expression on his face.
“He’ll wake up. Just let him rest. You both had a long day yesterday; are you sure you don’t want to go home and rest?” He cast a worried look at her, something Lu Xinyi dared not to ignore. At a time like this, she was glad that she wasn’t alone anymore.
“I’ll be fine, Yu Gege. I want to be here when Yi wakes up.”
Lu Xinyi was pretty sure that her husband would ask for her when he woke up. She’d stay here not only to give peace of mind to him… but also to herself.
