“Lu Xinyi…” Sun Qiyan never thought that Lu Xinyi would be able to beat her in her own game.
How was she supposed to know that Lu Xinyi was able to play a guzheng that even Qiushan wouldn’t dare to touch? Not only she helped Lu Xinyi become popular, but she also gave her a chance to outs.h.i.+ne her and Sun Feiyan.
Chairman Sun was also acquainted with several elders who loved cla.s.sical music, and upon hearing Lu Xinyi’s performance, they were eager to praise her in front of Chairman Sun.
“Chairman Sun, I thought you only have one granddaughter who’s talented in music. Why didn’t you tell me Meixiu’s daughter is also proficient with the guzheng? What else she could play?”
“This old man is really lucky. The heaven bestowed him with really talented and beautiful granddaughters. The Sun family might be lacking with sons, but they are blessed with capable daughters.”
“I agree. Sun Feiyan graduated with flying colors and got her masters overseas, Sun Qiushan entered the music industry and released several successful compositions, and now, they have Lu Xinyi, one of the best newcomers of Silver Leaf. Chairman Sun did really hit luck gaining such granddaughters.” One continued to b.u.t.ter up and praised Chairman Sun.
“Oh, I thought Lu Xinyi is only good at cooking. I’m really surprised by her performance tonight. Too bad though that she entered Silver Leaf before I find out about her talent. I could have invited her to attend our university.”
An elder wasn’t pleased that he didn’t discover Lu Xinyi sooner. He’d already lost his chance to take Sun Meixiu as his apprentice, and now, he also missed Lu Xinyi.
“It’s alright, Elder Wan. I’m sure Lu Xinyi would still choose cooking over music.” His friend teased him.
Sun Qiyan couldn’t help but feel embarra.s.sed. Chairman Sun had four granddaughters, but she was the only one who was cast out and didn’t receive everyone’s recognition. It was supposed to be Lu Xinyi who should lose face tonight! How come her plan backfired, making her shoot her own foot?!
Wasn’t she the one who kept saying that Lu Xinyi wasn’t raised as a miss? That she didn’t have proper manners of a young miss of the family?
Impossible! This couldn’t be happening to her!
Several young misses from the other families started gossiping about her.
“Sun Qiyan was trying to shame her own cousin—how vicious. Is this how she treats a family member?”
“Didn’t you hear what she said earlier? She was so full of herself, but Lu Xinyi slapped her now with a hard truth.”
“I know, right? I heard from my mom that Sun Ruying also favored her youngest daughter over Sun Qiyan. Sun Qiyan must be jealous of Lu Xinyi now.”
“How could she not be? Not only Lu Xinyi was able to get one of the most-sought bachelors in town, but she also entered Silver Leaf.”
“No wonder Lu Xinyi was trying to distance herself from Sun Qiyan earlier. Tsk, tsk.”
Sun Qiyan hoped she could be swallowed whole by the earth to hide from such humiliation, but she ended up walking away, ignoring how Chu Ting called after her.
Chairman Sun kept his silence. He looked perplexed at the sudden praises his family was receiving because of Lu Xinyi, and he was also surprised by her outstanding performance tonight. He couldn’t help but be proud that his daughter, Meixiu, had raised Lu Xinyi well even if it was for a short time.
Hearing Lu Xinyi play ‘A Moonlit Night on the Spring River’ made the old man miss his deceased daughter. He could somehow see the resemblance of his daughter to Lu Xinyi although the personalities of the mother and daughter were heaven and earth.
Lu Xinyi’s rebellious att.i.tude had caused enough rifts between them. She refused to go back to the Sun family all these years. Chairman Sun originally thought that Lu Xinyi would, one day, realize that she would have no other choice but to accept the Sun family as her only family. What he failed to predict was her marrying the young master of the Shen family.
With Shen Yi in the picture, it would be hard for Chairman Sun to convince Lu Xinyi to fully take the responsibility as his successor. He would never pa.s.s the baton to any of his illegitimate daughters or granddaughters as long as he still had Lu Xinyi. It was only proper for her to inherit everything, which was her birthright.
Chairman Sun had long prepared his last will and testament, naming her as his successor and leaving his daughters with a decent inheritance that could support themselves. Since his only son pa.s.sed away, he decided to pa.s.s Sun Weijun’s share and inheritance to Sun Feiyan.
He was hoping that with Sun Feiyan around, Lu Xinyi wouldn’t have a hard time managing the company. However, this old man never thought that the two heiresses of his family wanted nothing from him and only wished to see the downfall of the family he was proud of.
Lu Xinyi strode towards her husband which welcomed her with a proud smile. His eyes were glimmering as he stared down at his wife.
“Dear, you keep on surprising me. What else haven’t you told me?” Shen Yi leaned down and kissed Lu Xinyi’s temple as he placed a hand on her waist.
“Hubby, you don’t need to rush. We’ve only been married for about six months now. We still have forever to spend with each other,” Lu Xinyi lowly replied and winked at her husband.
“Six months? Has it been that long since I picked you up?”
It felt like it was only yesterday when they met on the cruise and got married in private. Had it been really that long?
“Hey! What do you mean you picked me up? What do you think of me? A stray cat?” she grumbled.
Stray cat? Ah, indeed Shen Yi thought that she was a pitiful, abandoned kitten when he first saw her on that cruise. However, he didn’t expect that the stray kitten he’d taken had very sharp claws.
“No, you’re a tigress.” He chuckled. He leaned down to whisper to her ear. “I like it when you run your claws and dig it on my back while screaming my name.”
“President Shen, that’s so shameless of you.” Lu Xinyi blushed. She was thankful that they were conversing privately that no one could overhear what he said.
“What? Afraid that people find out that my devilish wife is a wildcat in bed?” He teased back.
Lu Xinyi covered her face as she felt her face heat up more. He surely took enjoyment of her embarra.s.sment over the matter. She shrieked as he nibbled at her earlobe secretly before pulling away.
She wasn’t sure what was worse: him teasing her in public, or her inflicting pain on him as they made love. She bemoaned at the thought that either of the two, Shen Yi would be interested.
While Lu Xinyi was blus.h.i.+ng over her thoughts, Shen Yi stood close to her. He suddenly stiffened, which made his wife confused.
“What is it?” Lu Xinyi was facing him. His hand was still on her waist so she couldn’t see who were walking towards them.
“Promise me something, Xinxin,” Shen Yi said with a stern expression in his face.
Lu Xinyi drew her brows together in confusion.
“Just tell me what it is,” she demanded.
“No. Promise me you’ll hold back and keep your emotions in check.” His smile waned as his face grew serious.
“Yi, just tell me what the problem is… I…”
However, before she could finish her sentence, Shen Yi dropped the bomb on her.
“Xi Yunchuan is here…”
