Shen Yi’s blood turned cold upon hearing what Li Yuren said. If they were able to follow Lu Xinyi without him noticing, it was surprising. Thinking about it, the b.l.o.o.d.y Wolves should also be aware of it, and yet the group hadn’t mentioned anything about it.

“There’s something that doesn’t make sense though. I’m under the impression that you’ve killed that man on that fateful night so how did he survive and was able to make a comeback?” Li Yuren eyed him curiously.

Shen Yi stiffened at the question, but it was not because of the coldness outside the stadium due to winter. He was pretty sure he left the man dead before leaving Saffron Boulevard in shambles. Unless, of course, someone saved Feng Zexian after they left the scene.

“It doesn’t matter how he survived; what I need to know is what he’s up to.” The lines of concentration deepened along Shen Yi’s brows and under his eyes.

“You don’t need half a brain to know that he wants revenge. We found out that he was the one financing the illegal imports at Jiang City, and also there’s a trace leading to the Sun family.”

The Sun family again? Why did the Sun family a.s.sociate themselves with a mob boss like Feng Zexian? If Shen Yi thought about the personality of the Sun family members, Sun Mingai alone had the capability to help Feng Zexian on his revenge. This then made sense to Shen Yi as to why Feng Zexian’s men were after his wife.

“Chairman Sun isn’t in good condition at this moment. He was rushed to the hospital the other day when he collapsed at work. I think the tension of the fight for inheritance had started again. Next time, don’t be so careless, President Shen; or you’ll lose Lu Xinyi.”

Shen Yi noted Li Yuren’s set face, his clamped mouth and fixed eyes on him. The tip of Li Yuren’s cigarette died down when a cool breeze pa.s.sed by.

“You don’t have to remind me how to take care of my wife.” Shen Yi scoffed and turned around, ready to go back inside the stadium to see his wife. He suddenly felt a need to hold her in his arms to know that he still had her.

Now that there was a new danger emerging from nowhere, threatening to ruin the happy life he now shared with Lu Xinyi, for the first time in his life; Shen Yi felt restless and uneasy.

However, before he could take another step, Li Yuren’s words stopped him.

“Heh, really? As far as I can remember, I was the one who saved your wife when she got lost in the mountains. If Lu Xinyi gets hurt because of Feng Zexian, the fault is yours, President Shen. You brought this on her, and it’s your responsibility to clean up your own mess.”

Shen Yi slowly turned his body to face him, his expression a mask of stone.

“You’re just her ex-fiancee that she never recognized. Why do you care? Unless you have feelings for my wife?” he asked bluntly.

The general frowned at that. He’d already made peace with his feelings for Lu Xinyi and accepted that she was happier with Shen Yi, but that didn’t mean he stopped caring about her.

“It’s pointless to ask this question, President Shen.”

“Oh, please, General Li. Don’t patronize me. If you don’t care about Lu Xinyi, you wouldn’t talk to me or inform me about Feng Zexian’s actions.”

“Regardless of what I feel for Miss Lu, it doesn’t matter anymore,” Li Yuren said smoothly, with no expression on his face. “We’re after the same person. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.”

Once more, Shen Yi’s face displayed an uncanny awareness. His eyes glinted as he understood what Li Yuren was up to.

“You are planning to decoy Feng Zexian using me? You are better than this, General Li.”

Shen Yi didn’t give the other man time to reply and left at once.

Li Yuren and Long Feng could only watch his retreating figure as he disappeared in the hallway.

“Yuren, do you think President Shen will cooperate with us?” Long Feng asked as they walked away from the stadium.

“He will. Shen Yi might have resources to deal with Feng Zexian alone, but there’s no doubt he’ll cooperate with us soon.”

There was a faint glint of hurt in Li Yuren’s eyes, which Long Feng saw momentarily.

‘Because in this world, Lu Xinyi is the one person Shen Yi loves the most,’ Li Yuren said in his mind.

Shen Yi walked down the hallway, lost in his own thoughts. What Li Yuren said had a point. If Lu Xinyi fell into Feng Zexian’s hands, he could blame no one but himself. He made his way backstage and found his wife talking to the twins while Zhang Qing and Jiao Jiao busied themselves, scanning their surroundings for possible threats.

Lu Xinyi’s eyes lit up once she saw him coming their way. She released the twins and met her husband halfway with a wide grin on her face. Her chef uniform now replaced with thicker clothing to ward off the harsh coldness of winter.

The twins then turned their attention to Jiao Jiao and bombarded her with questions about Lu Xinyi’s bento box.

“What took you so long, President Shen? I’m starting to think that you’re getting tired of me.” Lu Xinyi winked at him. Her husband was stunned for a moment, surprised written over his face as she flirted at him in public.

Breaking from his trance, Shen Yi pulled Lu Xinyi and wrapped an arm around her. His lips placed a chaste kiss on her forehead.

“Congrats on winning. What kind of prize do you have in mind?” His voice hinted with amus.e.m.e.nt.

“Eight hours of uninterrupted sleep sounds very appealing to me.” The smile on Lu Xinyi’s face grew wider.

“I didn’t tire you out last night, didn’t I?”

“Hush, you!” Lu Xinyi placed a finger on her lips. “The twins might hear you.”

Shen Yi sighed and turned them towards the exit, leading his small family out of the stadium.

“I rarely have alone time with you with the twins around.”

Qiao He then met with them at the parking lot and opened the door of the backseat of the car to let them enter. The twins entered gleefully, asking Lu Xinyi to recreate the bento box she made in the cooking battle, to which the latter easily agreed.

Throughout the ride, Shen Yi kept silent. He was busy messaging someone on his phone.

When they arrived home, it was almost time for dinner. Li Xinyi hadn’t expected her in-laws to pay them a visit. Shen Yi’s family found them in their living area, waiting for them. Shen Huang welcomed her with a warm smile and hug, patting her back for winning her cooking battle.

“I heard from Yi that you won again today. You really give those judges a run for their money. We are really proud of you, Xin’er,” Shen Huang said proudly. He couldn’t be prouder to have Lu Xinyi as his daughter-in-law, and all the blind dates he and his mother set for his eldest son had been worth it; for Shen Yi was able to meet Lu Xinyi at that cruise s.h.i.+p.

“Thanks, Dad. It was an intense battle. I messed up the second round. Thankfully, I was able to secure my win.”

Shen Huang released his daughter-in-law and saw his eldest son, motioning him to follow him to the garden.

“Dad, I need to talk to you. It’s urgent.”

“Alright. I’ll be there soon,” Shen Huang replied, turning to face Lu Xinyi. “I’ll leave you with Mother. Seems like your husband needs a.s.sistance at work.” He winked before following his son.
