Since Lu Xinyi was aware that there’s a spy on her team—in order not to startle the snake, she and Xia Yuhan decided not to suspend their schedule and plans. If they stopped now, Sun Qiyan would receive the news; and she might drop or change her plans, too. Either way, it would put Flair Apparel at a disadvantage.
“Do you need help in trapping the spy?” Shen Yi lifted his teacup and glanced at his wife.
“There’s no need for that.” Lu Xinyi thought about the best way to do it. “Since we aren’t sure how much they’ve known so far, we couldn’t tell if there’s more than one spy to deal with.”
There’s only a week left before the launching of their campaign, which also meant that Xia Yuhan needed to act swiftly. She wasn’t a fool; she knew her cousin wouldn’t hesitate to throw dirty waters at Flair Apparel once they released their next line.
When she excused herself to go to the comfort room, Jiao Jiao relayed what Zhang Qing told her over the phone that evening to her lady, after making sure that the door was locked and they’re safe from everyone else’s earshot. Anyway, the Fu siblings were just waiting outside the door to give them some privacy Jiao Jiao needed.
“Miss, the people that Sun Qiyan hired to kidnap you and ruin your face backed out this afternoon. It was amusing to see her in such a rage. They are afraid of what will come after them if they accept Sun Qiyan’s job offer,” she whispered next to her boss.
Lu Xinyi, who was was.h.i.+ng her hands on the sink, stopped and looked back at her bodyguard through the reflection on the wide mirror. Was this the reason why her husband chose to announce their marriage at this time?
She sighed and resumed what she was doing.
“Ahh, that’s too bad then. I was quite intrigued at what my cousin was planning for me.”
“Miss, Sun Feiyan’s a.s.sistant called. She said there’s another shareholders’ meeting tomorrow at Sun Corp. Since you inherited your mother’s share, should I accept her invitation?”
Lu Xinyi hummed, thinking what was waiting for her at that meeting.
“They’ll probably vote for a new CEO for Sun Corp,” she muttered under her breath.
“Huh? Isn’t Sun Feiyan the CEO and President now?” Jiao Jiao didn’t understand how it worked anyway.
“The shareholders are displeased with the recent scandals and that drop in sales of Starlight. Feiyan might be capable, but she doesn’t have the support of the majority of the shareholders. Haven’t you seen how those people treated my cousins? They didn’t argue with Chairman Sun out of respect, but they would rather listen to Sun Mingai than my cousins.”
“But Miss, if they vote for Sun Mingai as the next CEO, you wouldn’t be able to kick her out of the company.”
Wasn’t that the reason why Lu Xinyi and Shen Yi formed a sh.e.l.l company to repurchase the shares being sold by the shareholders of Sun Corp? The Sun family only knew that Lu Xinyi got a share from her mother, but what she’d obtained from the past weeks was unknown to them.
Together, the ShenLu couple decided to take down the Sun Corp from the inside. If Sun Mingai stepped up as the next CEO, wouldn’t that mean that Lu Xinyi has lost?
“Not really. Yi already expected this to happen even though I was surprised that his prediction was correct.”
The sh.e.l.l company they both started was being led by one of Shen Yi’s trusted corporate partner, Zheng Ning. Zheng Ning handled all the share purchasing for Lu Xinyi and represented her for the official meetings with Sun Mingai.
All this time, the woman thought she’d secured her future by collaborating with Zheng Ning, not knowing that the real person who was supposedly helping her was none other Lu Xinyi herself.
Wouldn’t it be more satisfying to see her aunt falling hard from her high horse once she knew the truth? Just when the woman thought she had everything fallen into her hands, Lu Xinyi would s.n.a.t.c.h it back in front of her.
As long as Sun Mingai tried to cover up the truth about her mother’s death, Lu Xinyi made up her mind to find her aunt’s weaknesses. It might take time according to her husband, but since Shen Yi already started sabotaging the smaller companies under Sun Corps, it’d be just around the corner.
“So, should I accept Chen Anqi’s invitation and confirm your attendance?” Jiao Jiao asked her.
“Did they say what time it is?” Lu Xinyi dried her hands and fixed her hair neatly.
“Chen Anqi said the meeting starts at 1 PM. Your morning cla.s.ses will end at 11 AM so you’ll have two hours of vacant time for lunch.”
Initially, Lu Xinyi was planning to visit her friend Xiao Lan at the hospital with the twins as she’d recently given birth to a son. She thought hard about it, but given that she could not break her word to her friend, Lu Xinyi decided to give Xiao Lan a call.
Xiao Lan snorted at her dilemma. She found it amusing that Madam Shen would apologize to her like this.
“Xinxin, it’s alright. I know you’re really busy. I don’t expect you to drop everything just to see me. My baby and I will be waiting for you. There’s no need to apologize for being late.”
“Well…” Lu Xinyi suddenly found herself speechless. If it was Meng Jiao she was speaking with, the woman would have thrown a rage for ruining their plans. “If you are sure…”
“I’m sure. We’ll have to stay here for another three days anyway. Now, you must not forget the sweets I’ve told you…” Xiao Lan’s voice then lowered. Her voice was almost a whisper in Lu Xinyi’s ears. “They won’t allow me to eat anything I want! The hospital food tastes so bland,” she whined.
“Why don’t you tell your husband then? I’m sure he wouldn’t be able to decline your wishes now that you’ve given him a son he always wanted.”
When Lu Xinyi said it, Xiao Lan groaned and slumped back on her bed with a light thud. Her body was still sore from her childbirth, but she was also starving. Why couldn’t she have a snack in between her meals anyway?
“He’s a hopeless case, Xinxin. He worries too much, and now that I gave birth, he couldn’t leave our son alone, always asking the nurses if he needs feeding. You’ll understand me once you and Yi have a child of your own, which reminds me… Zhao Xi told me you’ve finally adopted the twins! Congratulations! Now, start adding new babies to continue Shen Yi’s bloodline.”
“…”
Lu Xinyi didn’t know whether to laugh or cry on that. This wasn’t the first time someone told her to start considering having a kid with her husband. Just the recent news alone had been enough to remind her that they were expecting to hear about her pregnancy soon.
Thinking that she’d somehow offended Lu Xinyi, Xiao Lan apologized to her.
“Sorry… I knew you were frustrated before. Zhao Xi told me what happened during your medical exam. Please don’t blame her. It was me who asked her about your health when I heard you went missing for days.”
“It’s okay. I’ll see you later then?”
The two continued to exchange words until Lu Xinyi bid goodbye to Xiao Lan. Turning to Jiao Jiao, her eyes glint mischievously.
“Confirm my attendance. I like to see what kind of show they prepared for me.”
