Lu Xinyi couldn’t find the right words to express her reaction upon her grandmother’s confession. She knew it. The old man… Chairman Sun was really the lowest sc.u.m on earth. He couldn’t let both women go because he was a greedy b.a.s.t.a.r.d.
“Then, I heard s.h.i.+ Yimu got pregnant after six months of my marriage with Sun Liuxian. I could tell he was so happy but couldn’t tell the world about it, in fear that the public would scorn her. He got her pregnant, and I was left alone to watch him prepare the thing the child needs and constantly leave in the middle of the night to rush to her side.”
“I didn’t say anything, but the smile on his face was like a stab in my heart… knowing I wasn’t the reason for it.” The old woman sighed and pushed her wheelchair back near the table to drink her tea.
The teacup in her hands was warm and soothing. “This black tea tastes good, Xin’er.”
“I’m glad you like it. I learned that black tea or green teas may help reduce your risk of stroke.” Lu Xinyi smiled, softening the frown that seemed forever etched on her face.
Tang Lingfei eyed her granddaughter who was looking more and more like her Meixiu especially when Lu Xinyi frowned like that.
“However, his happiness didn’t last long when he found out that s.h.i.+ Yimu was carrying a girl in her womb. He wanted to gain a son, an heir that could inherit the company when the time comes he needed to step down. Sun Mingai was born, and the following year, s.h.i.+ Yimu got pregnant again with a girl who was Sun Ruying.”
Lu Xinyi arched a brow.
“Then, she finally bore him a son. Sun Feiyan’s father, Sun Weijun,” she commented.
Tang Lingfei nodded.
“Smart girl.” She commended her granddaughter, “Xin’er, aren’t you curious why Sun Weijun was born in the same year with your mother?” she asked with humor in her voice.
Lu Xinyi tilted her head on one side and pondered about it. Indeed, not only her mother shared the same year of death with Sun Feiyan’s father but also the birth year.
“According to your story, Chairman Sun hated you and wouldn’t dare to touch you. I can only think of two scenarios. It’s either that my mother wasn’t his child and a Sun or you took drastic ways to get pregnant with his child.”
The old woman seemed to laugh at that.
“I a.s.sure you, Xin’er, I didn’t sleep with another man to bear your mother. She’s truly Sun Liuxian’s daughter. He could deny her, but he also knew inside him that Meixiu was his.”
“So how did you become pregnant? Didn’t they say you have a hard time getting pregnant, and that was the reason why your husband cheated on you?”
“Xin’er, you should know by now not to believe everyone’s words. The rumors about me and your mother struggling to get pregnant weren’t true. My brother only allowed the rumors to spread after someone spotted Sun Liuxian and s.h.i.+ Yimu stepping out from a maternity clinic. He wanted to save my reputation as being a wife not being touched by her own husband,” she said with a laugh.
Somehow, she could tell that these rumors affected her granddaughter’s mood.
“If you are worried that you couldn’t give Shen Yi a child because of this rumor, I’m telling you not to believe it. Although, I must admit it was hard for your mother back then. She’d lost two children because of miscarriage.”
The younger woman released a sigh. Relieved that the rumors about it were baseless and was just spread to protect Tang Lingfei’s name.
“So my mother…”
“…was conceived after I drugged my husband and lost my virginity to him.” Her grandmother didn’t give her a chance to finish her words.
Lu Xinyi was beyond shocked by her own grandmother’s confession. Her jaws dropped; her hands almost lost their grip to her own teacup.
Tang Lingfei said it without batting an eyelid. As if drugging her own husband to conceive a child was some kind of achievement she could brag to her own granddaughter.
“Surprised? You didn’t think I could do it?” Tang Lingfei swirled her drink before taking a sip. The warm drink pa.s.sed on her throat smoothly, giving her a comforting feeling against the coldness of the weather.
“I just didn’t think that you’ll still want to sleep with a man who repeatedly hurt your feelings purposely,” Lu Xinyi admitted.
“This is why we shouldn’t make a decision when we’re angry. When s.h.i.+ Yimu got pregnant for the third time, I heard that it was a son. Once again, she regained my husband’s favor. I was so mad that she used it and laughed right into my face.
“A mere mistress of my husband insulting me? I couldn’t take it. When Sun Liuxian came home, I spiked up his drink and slept with him. Of course, when he found out what I did, he was furious. He forced me to take an after-day pill, but I refused, ran away, and stayed with my brother for a few weeks.”
Tang Lingfei regretted what she did when her anger subsided, and her mind was clear. However, it was too late as she found herself pregnant. Taking her prenatal check-up alone without her husband had almost made it impossible for her to do. If it wasn’t for her brother’s help, she didn’t think she could manage to get through it.
“I regretted doing it, but after seeing your mother the first time, the pain in my heart vanished and finally I felt that I wasn’t alone anymore. Even if Sun Liuxian disregards her as his daughter, I didn’t care. I made up my mind to keep her.”
Throughout the time of her pregnancy, Tang Lingfei moved out from the Sun Estate and stayed at the Tang Mansion. The news about her pregnancy after years of marriage became huge news, but what shocked the public was Tang Lingfei’s intention to divorce her husband and pulled out her investments from the Sun Corporation, crippling the company’s finances.
‘Why divorce him now that she’s pregnant? Isn’t it too late for Tang Lingfei to do that?’
‘I don’t think so. Maybe she’s doing this to protect her child from her husband’s other children. I can’t believe this… Sun Liuxian was having an affair with s.h.i.+ Yimu even before he married Tang Lingfei? Wasn’t s.h.i.+ Yimu Tang Lingfei’s talent before she suddenly left the show business? Tang Lingfei must be regretting marrying a man like him!’
‘It’s bound to happen sooner or later anyway, but it baffles me that she waited too long to divorce him after finding out about his affair.’
“After the divorce, Meixiu and I lead a peaceful life although that couldn’t be said to Sun Liuxian and s.h.i.+ Yimu. s.h.i.+ Yimu gave birth to a son at the expense of her own life. She died in childbirth, leaving my ex-husband devastated from her death. He took in his children from her and raised them as his successors, but his family refused to accept any of them and insisted on naming Meixiu as the next in line.
“Your mother, she might not have been born as a son he’d always wanted, but she was an exceptional girl with great talent in music and academics. I raised her alone without her father around, but because of the pressure from the Sun family, Meixiu has to bear their family name instead of mine.”
