Lu Xinyi came back home and had lunch with her husband. Her flight was in the evening, and she still had some free time to laze around until her husband drives her to the airport.
Later, as Shen Yi sat on the couch watching TV, Lu Xinyi cleared the table and sat next to him.
This seemed to be the first time that they were complete and spent a long time together without worrying over Lu Xinyi’s schoolwork and Shen Yi’s busy schedule. Since Lu Xinyi would be gone for a month, he decided to cancel and reschedule all of his business trips to accompany the twins at home.
Shen Yi’s arm was around her as they watched TV. None of them was speaking as they had no idea what to talk about. He was aware of today’s events, but Shen Yi didn’t dare to voice out his questions, seeing how silent his wife was.
“What do you want to do now?” Shen Yi broke the silence between them. It wasn’t usual for his wife to be silent like this. Something must have happened when she went to the Sun Estate.
Lu Xinyi looked at the clock. It wasn’t the time to pick the twins yet.
“Wait for an hour and pick the twins from their summer cla.s.s.”
Obviously, Shen Yi was pertaining to her next plans to the Sun family, but since she avoided his question, he wouldn’t force her anymore. Lu Xinyi didn’t have the least bit of interest in the TV program they were watching.
For a long time, neither said a word until Zhang Qing appeared at the doorway. Her back was straight, and there was a complex expression on her face.
“Miss, there’s a phone call for you.”
Lu Xinyi accepted the phone from her bodyguard and answered the phone. Zhang Qing left as soon as her boss took the call.
“Miss Xinyi, it’s me. Something bad happened to the chairman after you left.” She heard the familiar voice of Chairman Sun’s a.s.sistant from the other line. She could hear his voice trembling as he pa.s.sed the news to her.
Lu Xinyi did not answer him. Shen Yi waited for her to say something, but none came out. He realized that her hand was cold when his hand touched hers.
The silence engulfed her as she listened intently to what the a.s.sistant had to say. She already guessed what had occurred after she left the Sun Estate.
“I’m quite busy at the moment,” she finally said before ending the phone call.
Seeing her indifferent look, Shen Yi was worried. “What happened?”
Lu Xinyi didn’t want to think about it. According to what the a.s.sistant told her, Chairman Sun wouldn’t last; and he was already on his deathbed. Different thoughts crossed her mind, but she couldn’t find it on herself to see the man who betrayed her mother.
Should she cry? Why would she shed tears for him?
Still, she couldn’t deny the sadness that sprung in her heart when she heard her grandfather’s condition. Did she overstep the line? Was she too harsh on him?
As Shen Yi held her hand, she felt his warmth. She gradually felt better as well. This man was able to bring peace to her troubled heart.
“Xinxin?” he called her out.
“We should leave if we are going to fetch the twins on time,” she said quietly, getting to her feet and pulling him up beside her.
Shen Yi allowed himself to be led out of their home before the door shut behind him. He sighed as he looked down at his hand that his wife held in a firm grip as she walked slightly ahead of him towards his car.
A slight smile crossed his face as he mused over the fact that she would always seek after him even in silence. With that thought in mind, Shen Yi quickened his steps so that he was walking alongside his wife. He even gave her a peck on her cheek when she stopped to look at him.
The ride to the twins’ school was quiet, but Lu Xinyi was immensely satisfied and pleased that her husband took her hand in his again once they arrived. It seemed that Shen Yi was trying to get his fill as he’d chosen to keep her stuck beside him and wouldn’t leave her side unless it was necessary.

“Did you say something?” Shen Yi turned to her when he heard her mumble something to herself.
“Nothing.” She averted her gaze, hoping that her blush had crept on her face.
“Are you going to miss me? Because I don’t think I could endure sleeping at night without you.”
“Husband, you were able to sleep on your own for three decades. Sleeping alone for a month wouldn’t be comparable to that!” She countered back. What was he up to anyway?
“Wife, you don’t want me anymore? Can’t you just stay and let Miss Han compete alone? One month without you? I can’t accept it!”
“We should get out.” Lu Xinyi dodged his question, let go of his hand, and stepped out of the car.
“I didn’t realize there would be so many people in here,” she said as she noticed a group of mothers waiting at the main entrance of the school, deep in conversation.
Shen Yi shrugged as he stood beside her and leaned against the door of his car, with his sungla.s.ses on and waiting patiently for the twins to come out.
Looking around them, Lu Xinyi noted that quite a few people were looking in their direction and muttering unintelligible words behind their hands. She fought hard not to roll her eyes and resisted the urge to wait inside the car instead.
Noticing her unease, Shen Yi glanced at her from the corner of his eye and wrapped an arm around her shoulder. Lu Xinyi looked at him and smiled as she realized that he was trying to comfort her in his own way.
