Cheng Qingchong found herself unable to go back to sleep, and Qin Yinan had not left the study after entering.
Cheng Qingchong believed he must be extremely tired overworking himself, trying to salvage this situation.
No wonder he looked so tired when he was removing his tie earlier. He mustn"t have rested since he left the house so late at night. Did he even have anything to eat since then?
The more she thought about it, the more worried Cheng Qingchong became. She tossed and turned in bed until she sat up, picked up her phone, and looked at the time. It was 3 am.
Cheng Qingchong stared out at the darkened sky. She pulled off the cover and got out from bed to use the bathroom. After she came out, she stood by the bed for some time before she wandered out of the bedroom, pretending she was going to the kitchen to grab some kitchen, while in fact, it was because she was worried about him.
The door to the study was shut, so Cheng Qingchong didn"t know how Qin Yinan was holding up on inside. She stood in the middle of the living room, staring at the door. She still couldn"t summon the courage to walk toward it.
He must be feeling tortured, all trapped in this, facing it alone… Cheng Qingchong considered going in to comfort him, but the memory of his hatred and disgust toward her made her believe if she went to him, it would only worsen his mood.
Cheng Qingchong"s eyes dimmed when she was reminded of this fact. She grabbed the edge of her pajamas before she turned to walk toward the kitchen.
While she knew Qin Yinan might not even appreciate it, she still opened the fridge to retrieve some simple ingredients to cook a bowl of noodles. She cracked open an egg into the noodles and brew a cup of coffee. She placed both on a tray and carried it to the study.
Cheng Qingchong bent over to place the tray before the door. Then she stood to knock on the door lightly. She didn"t say anything but moved away hastily into the main bedroom. The moment she closed the door, she heard the study door open.
About a minute later, the study door closed once more. Cheng Qingchong then pulled the bedroom door open slightly ajar to peek outside. The door to the study was shut, but the tray she left at the door had already disappeared.
It was fine if he hated her—she could make sure that he wouldn"t see her—but she hoped he would take care of his health especially in a stressful situation like this.
…
Qin Yinan didn"t return to the bedroom for the whole night, and Cheng Qingchong couldn"t sleep because she was worried about him.
Early that morning, Qin Yinan returned to his room to change his clothes and briefly shower. Then he left for his company.
Not long after he left, Cheng Qingchong"s eyes fluttered open. She walked to the window to see Qin Yinan"s car disappear from the residential area before she turned to walk toward the study.
The door to the study wasn"t locked. Cheng Qingchong twisted the doork.n.o.b, and it fell open.
The first thing that hit her was a haze of smoke. Cheng Qingchong raised her hand to cover her nostrils before she walked into it.
She looked around the study before moving to the desk. It was stacked with all kinds of files and doc.u.ments.
Her years of training at ST Empire enabled Cheng Qingchong to recognize these doc.u.ments at first glance as Qin Yinan"s decision to give up on Zhou Wei. He planned to find a new investor in the remaining three days, and the information gathered was all on venture capital companies.
