Chapter 55Early morning one weekend, Andy received a text from an unknown number. She curiously opened it and found to be Mei.
The girl was inviting her for a little chat by afternoon along with explaining where she got her number.
"So you love cakes huh." Mei said.
They were both eating a slice.
"Wait, is that raisins?" Mei curiously asked.
Andy nodded. "This is Raisin b.u.t.ter Cake," she pointed the cake with her fork.
Without second thought, Mei started to pluck one raisin after another.
Andy"s forehead creased. "Hey, what are you doing?"
"I"m eating them?" Mei innocently answered while chewing.
Andy covered her cake with both palms. "This is mine."
"I love raisins." Mei reasoned.
"I love them too." Andy held her side too.
Mei sighed and gave up. "We seemed to have a lot in common."
Andy"s brow arched.
"How does liking raisins to be… "a lot"?"
Mei glared at Andy but remained silent.
She"s not telling her that she knew it through Erika like; liking the same music, loving the same artist, loving cakes and sweets, playing the same instruments and more.
"Anyway, why did you called me?"
Andy finally got down to business.
"Oh, you like Erika right?"
Andy was taken aback of the sudden question.
"As they say, "you have to know your rival"." Mei widely smiled.
"So I want to know you."
Andy leaned her back to the chair and exhaled deeply unable to utter a word.
"Oh s.h.i.t," Mei snapped while looking down on her phone.
"I have violin practice to attend to."
Well, not hers though. She just had promised her niece that she will be there for support.
Mei apologetically looked at Andy.
"Nah, it"s fine. You can go." Andy a.s.sured.
Then an idea popped in Mei"s mind.
"I"m not the kind of person to ditch my date."
"How about coming with me?" She offered.
[**********]
Andy was sighing and found herself coming with Mei to some music establishment.
They entered a room that seemed to be designed for practice; a grand piano in sight; s.p.a.cious.
Then a lovely young lady, around fifteen years old, threw herself as soon as she saw Mei entering the room.
A middle aged woman, sitting on the piano; seemed to be a music professor, nodded to both Andy and Mei, acknowledging their presence.
Then not long, Mei"s niece presented her piece.
Andy, tilted her head as she listened.
She could tell many errors but did not mind since it"s just practice but what shocked her was that the young girl crumbled and started crying.
Mei rashly hugged her niece.
"It"s okay baby, everybody makes mistakes." She comforted.
By then, Andy took a glance at the score, picked up a violin for her size and briefly talked to the professor.
She gave Mei a sweet smile as she stand beside the piano holding the violin. She also signaled the professor to accompany her as she positioned herself and begun to play the piece.
There was something about the way she played the piece. It was soothing to the ears and warm to the heart.
The young girl stopped crying and stared admiringly at her not to mention Mei.
Even the professor who was accompanying her, curved a smile with every note she pressed on the piano.
They were all immersed to the music in that moment.
And Mei on that span of time, clenched her fist as her heart skipped a beat then another.
She can"t describe her feelings as she doubted.
She never would have thought that Andy could play the violin splendidly and her eyes never drifted away from the girl the moment she drew the bow across the strings.
She was captivated and then… and then suddenly got scared as her heart won"t stop pounding.
"s.h.i.t."
