LOGANThe alarm started ringing at 5am. I wish to throw it away and continue my sleep but I cannot do that. Following my usual routine I made my way to college. On my way, I bought coffee. Making my way to college, Liam joined me.
"Hey, I want to ask you something." He said out of nowhere.
"Yeah?"
"Is there something going on between you and Sophia?"
My eyes widened and I spit out my coffee.
Liam"s eyes widened as well on my reaction.
"Are you okay?" He asked with a concerned look on his face as he searched his jacket for tissues.
"Yeah I am, its just too hot." I said, trying to make it a little less embarra.s.sing as I handed Liam the cup and taking a tissue out of my jacket.
I tried to avoid the question because I don"t know what to say like I wish there was something between us and I don"t want it at the same time. But Liam kept looking at me as if he"s waiting for me to answer.
I inhaled deeply and replied, "no Liam, what makes you think so?" Cleaning the coffee stain off my jacket.
"It"s just that I see you both spending more and more time with each other and the way you look at eac-" he paused for a moment.
"Nevermind let"s go." He continued.
I wanted him to complete his sentence but instead I kept quiet and continued walking.
What makes him think so? Are we too obvious? The way we look at eac- what is that suppose to mean?
As I made my way to the cla.s.sroom, I saw Sophia already settled I wanted to say hi but she didn"t even look at me so I straight made my way up, in the second last row.
Time flew by and the cla.s.s was dismissed.
As soon as I got out of my cla.s.s, I saw Liam walking ahead of me.
He didn"t wait for me?
I fastened my pace so I could reach him, hitting on his head.
"Hey handsome." He put his arms around me.
"You didn"t wait for me."
"I am too hungry today, I didn"t have breakfast in the morning." He pouted.
I nodded as we made our way to the cafeteria.
I was about to settle down when my phone rang, I took it out to check and it was a message from Jacob.
"Library in 5 minutes." I rolled my eyes.
"Liam, you continue without me. I have to go." I said as I grabbed the apple and made my way to the library.
When I got in the library, there was no one.
*Regrets rushing here.*
I took a random book from one of the shelves and started flipping through the pages. After a few minutes I heard footsteps, when I looked up to see, I saw Sophia but she turned around as soon as she saw me, making her way out of the library.
Okayyy.
Do I look weird? Is she avoiding me? Is there something on my face?
I took out my phone and turned on the camera to see if there is but there was nothing.
Then I saw her again, but this time she was with everyone. They all settled down and I put that random book aside.
"Sorry Logan, we"re late. We couldn"t find Emma."
I nodded my head. Not even interested what he was saying cause I was busy figure outing whether Sophia"s really avoiding me or it"s just in my head.
SOPHIA
Avoiding eye contact with Logan is almost impossible since I want to see him yet I don"t want to see him. Actually I want to see him but I don"t want him to catch me staring at him.
I want to ask him out today, I want to go out with him and spend time with him but I am too timid and I guess he"s too.
After finishing the group project we all made our way out of the library and got separated. I looked for Logan, he was already walking his way out of the college with his both hands in his pockets.
I ran to him.
"Hey!" I said as soon as I reached him.
He was startled a little bit but smiled and replied with a hi.
"Have you eaten alre?" We both said at the same time.
Both were surprised for a moment but started laughing.
"Umm... Wanna have lunch together?" I asked him, afraid of getting rejected.
He nodded.
Yay.
After having lunch together he told me he"d walk me home and I agreed.
It was a silent walk but me being me, this silence was killing me so I hammered the wall of silence.
"May I ask you something?" I asked him.
"Yeah, sure." He answered, walking with his both hands in his pockets.
"Why do you look so..." I couldn"t think of the word to describe him.
He looked at me, "confused"
that"s what his face said.
"...timid." I quickly said.
"Timid?" He asked, giving me a even more perplexed look.
" I-I mean, you are always alone, no-not alone but with your friend Liam of course but... You look like someone who"s leisure is spending time with your own self. Someone who has caution tape around his heart. You look like someone who has been hurt. You look like you don"t like making friends" what are you saying Sophia? I tried my best to explain what I meant but I think I failed.
He kept walking but slower.
"Is that what they all think about me?" He asked.
"No, it"s what I felt about you." I replied, regretting.
He kept quiet.
Then continued walking.
This is embarra.s.sing.
" I mean you look like someone who have locked all the doors to their heart and hidden the key, not letting anyone in."
"Or maybe you"ve lost the key." I ended. I keep saying things and regretting every word.
He kept walking.
He"s a real mystery.
"I just don"t expect from people. I-I don"t like attachments." He said, softly.
"because I know at a point or a two, people leave. They leave. They all do."
Is he speaking all this from his past experiences?
"Nor do I want people to expect from me."
He let out a sigh. "Life is unpredictable." He continued. "One moment you"re the happiest person alive and the next you"re mourning on your loss."
So this is how he sees life.
"But still, life gives you endless chances to continue what you left, to start something new, to end the toxic things, doesn"t it?" I defended life. There was a moment of silence.
"So you"re a pessimist." I stated.
"What"s there to be optimistic about?"
"Hope." I replied.
"Tch." He kept walking.
This silent road seem to have no end and we kept walking.
"You"re a good person, Logan." I honestly said.
"What did I ever do to leave that impact on you?"
"You"re true. You"re you."
I want to tell him how life can be so much more. I want to tell him how unpredictable life can be in good ways. He looked at me, gave me a smile and said, "that"s because you"re a good person so you see good in others."
"It"s not like that Logan." I told him.
"Not everyone tells me I am a good person, Sophia."
"All you need is the eyes to really see."
I quoted.
He looked at me.
He came a little closer and his eyes were fixed in mine.
"Umm.." I mumbled and he came back to his senses.
He shook his head and distant himself.
Then, again, the walk became silent.
"You have beautiful eyes." He said out of nowhere which really made my heart pound.
"Ththank you." I blushed.
Again, he made my heart beat so fast that I am afraid if might come out.
"And I find your eyes alluring." I managed to confidently say.
He stopped.
"What"s so alluring about my eyes?" He faced me. He looked interested as his eyes sparkled and he let out a little but a beautiful laugh.
"They are fascinatingly blue. They are deep, and I see you have secrets buried within." I described and his smiled disappeared.
"The stars must be jealous cause I can"t take my eyes off you." I was lost in the moment but realized what I just said.
My smile disappeared.
He came a bit closer, making my heart bounce. He let out his hand out of his pocket and his eyes were fixed on me.
He placed his hands on my face as his his thumb gently brushed my cheek and I closed my eyes and rested my face on his hand as I felt his touch. He was so close, the warmth he gave me, it was so heartwarming and I wanted it all. I never wanted this hand off my face. It felt so good. He felt so good.
But I came back to reality when he suddenly removed his hand and removed his gaze.
"Goodnight Sophia." He softly said.
I was puzzled by what he said and I look around and realized I was already home.
I don"t want to go home. I don"t want him to go. I want this moment last a little longer.
"Goodnight." I smiled and walked away.
He kept standing there til I opened the front door.
I waved him and he waved back and walked away.
And I went inside.
