Tyr shoved his uncle in front of him as they made their way back to the hidden village. As they walked, his eyes remained focused on Laki. He did not trust the man and expected a betrayal at any moment.Laki stretched his arms toward the sky and yawned. He had been dreaming of his ex girlfriend, who he had not seen for hundreds of years. He suspected it was because his nephew"s sudden appearance dredged up old memories.
He looked over his shoulder at his nephew. The man watched him with hawk-like eyes, studying his every movement. "So, that small woman... She ain"t just one of yer employees yeah?"
The awkward silence was too much for him.
Tyr"s green eyes narrowed, "None of your business."
Clicking his tongue, Laki shook his head, "Ahhh, you don"t gotta be like that. I don"t got any ill intentions ya know. I like "er."
He then realized how his comment could be taken the wrong way and quickly added, "Not like a f.u.c.k "er kinda like, but I would share a drink wit "er." He paused, "Not that she ain"t pretty, I"d tap that if she wasn"t wit ya."
Tyr gave a heavy sigh. His voice was strained, and he pinched the bridge of his nose. "Enough. Yes, she"s my girlfriend and I would appreciate if you did not talk about "tapping that"."
A golden lock of hair fell down in front of Laki"s aqua eyes. He flipped his head back and combed his fingers through his thick mane. The sky was a gradient of blues as the sun"s light pushed the cloak of night away.
His devilish eyes sparkled like a summer sea as they reached the secret pa.s.sage. He loved pa.s.sing through this and would miss the novelty of going to the village when they left.
"Abrir!"
The stone parted and the secret pa.s.sage was revealed. While they walked through the rocky hallway, his voice echoed off the cool tunnel walls. "I meant no offense. She don"t look like any n.o.ble I"ve seen. Hrod kay with that?"
"Hrod is learning to keep any objections to herself," Tyr stated.
Laki raised an eyebrow and thought, "Yeah right. My sister learning to do anything new? It would take some crazy changes for that s.h.i.t to happen."
A few minutes later, the two men walked through the village. Many of the homes had been demolished from the fight and many carca.s.ses littered the outer edges of the village square. The exterior layers of their bodies were black and grey from the hot flames that had killed them while their pink flesh could be seen inside their torsos.
The sight was disgusting and Laki kept his eyes on the Captain"s cabin. He pointed to it and called out behind him, "I thinks if she was gonna keep a contract or whatever around, it woulda either been on "er or in "er place."
The heels of their boots sounded across the wooden porch as they walked towards the front door. The cobalt blue door creaked when they shoved it open. He had never been in Killigrew"s room before, so he stuck his head in before crossing the thresh hold.
Thick furs and golden coins littered the cabin floor. The green and white wallpaper peeled in the corners of the room and black leather furniture decorated the place. To the side there was a bedroom and a small kitchen.
Tyr pushed his uncle into the cabin, "Come on. We"re looking for some sort of contract or idol. It should give off a demonic aura when we find it."
A strong smell of cigar ash a.s.sailed them as they made their way through the cabin. The sunlight shined through the windows, creeping along the floor as they searched the rooms.
Laki was running out of ideas as he ripped the wallpaper down from the walls. "You sure "bout this? I dunno if she eva had one... We should just give up."
The sound of a sofa pushing against the floor covered the sounds of his complaint. There was a trap door beneath the sofa and Tyr opened the door. Below was a dark room that had a set of stairs that led into the sunless room.
"Laki, get down there."
The blonde-haired man went down a few steps and peered down the stairs. A chill ran down his spine, and he glanced up at his nephew. "I don"t wanna. This "as got bad juju feelin" all over it. You go first."
Despite the nefarious aura coming from below, when he gazed at his nephew, he was met with a look so terrifying that his knees became weak. "I-I"ll go..." he sputtered and ran down the steps.
