Winona comes into the sun room with Remi to start her session. Instead of just Maureen being in the room Charlie is with them . They start with meditation and lighting the incense burner as always. Remi lays on the pillow on the floor. Winona starts putting her under. She asks her to go back to the morning of the first attack. Remi begins to speak.
"I"m leaving for school . I have my cheer uniform on we have a game today. Mom is fixing breakfast and Dad says he will drive me today. "
Charlie gasps because Remi is speaking . When did this happen she wonders? Winona sends her a look to let her know to be quiet.
Winona asks Remi.
"What transpires at school before the game?"
Remi begins to tell her of her day.
" I went to my locker, and when I opened it a bag filled with trash fell out. Dean and his friends were laughing at me. I cleaned it up and went to cla.s.s. Then in gym cla.s.s when we were playing dodge ball. I had to go to the nurse, Dean smashed the ball in my face. He made my nose bleed. I had to beg the nurse not to call mom or dad. If they came I wouldn"t be able to cheer that night. The princ.i.p.al came by the nurse"s office to check on me. When she did she asked me how long had Dean been hara.s.sing me. I told her ever since he got in trouble with a few of my cousins. That he was the one who beat up Aisling. So since the cousins stay close to her he has been targeting me. " Remi stopped talking and just laid there quietly. As if waiting for something. Winona prompted her
"What is happening that you have become quiet?"
Remi answers
"The nurse gave me a pill to take for the pain. I sleep until the game is about to start. I don"t know what they gave me but It makes me sleep for several hours."
Winona decides that this will be a good place to stop for the day. She doesn"t want to stress her out too much. Especially in front of her mother. She is not sure how her mom will deal with Remi"s screaming. So she brings her out of her hypnosis and has her sit up.
The first thing Charlie inquires is.
"When did you start to speak?"
Winona decides to answer for her.
"This is the first time I heard her speak. She hasn"t spoken in her sessions before today. " Winona knows that things are strained between the two and does not want to have Remi upset by a tantrum over who she spoke first to. That is between Yona and Remi. She needs for Remi to stay as calm as can be for her to be calm while under hypnosis. So they end things at this point. Charlie pulls her daughter back when the other two leave the room.
"What are you going to do with the building the court awarded you from the Mayor?"
Charlie asks her point-blank.
Remi squares her shoulders and looks at her mother, telling her in a very cold tone.
"I do not know, I"m not even sure I want it. I will have Yona help me decide when the time comes. It"s not officially mine until the full investigation of his legal a.s.sets is completed. The judge says it"s mine because Dean is Crystal"s father and he has never paid child support. Since he will be spending life in prison this is in lieu of future child support. " wondering what is going through her mother"s mind she asks her directly.
"Why do you want to know. You normally could care less about my life?"
Charlie looks at her and begins fidgeting. Not knowing how to tell her what she wants. She decides to just come out with it.
" I was hoping you would give it to me to make up the difference from Aisling. Especially since according to Jonathan some of the money I was receiving was from Dean"s father. Which means I have no idea how much I will receive now. "
Aisling was right, her mother wants the building. Remi smiles at her and very snarkily answers her mother.
"For now you can stay in my apartment rent-free. That way what money you receive will go for utilities and food. If Thomas wants anything more than he can get a part-time job. If you need more than you can go back to work. You worked when Dad was alive so I see no reason why you can"t go back. As far as your house that will be up to Aisling. Maybe instead of just grabbing everything you could, you should have thought about the future. Everyone gave and you just took. You never gave anything to anyone but Thomas. You didn"t plan for his college or for your old age. It"s hard to believe that you have a college degree. " with that Remi leaves the room and leaves her mom alone.
Maureen softly knocks on the door and asks if she can come in. Charlie says
"of course you may, it"s me who is not welcome. "
Charlie stands to leave and Maureen takes her hand. She pats the couch beside her.
"Why don"t you sit with me for a moment.? " Charlie sits beside Maureen. Maureen begins to rub her wrist gently at the pressure point. Talking gently to her
"You know it takes two people to argue and to people to make an effort to make up. I know it"s hard to lose your husband. To be left alone and not understand why. Most can"t phantom what that does to a person. The loneliness and desperation. It is even worse when that person is gone, and you had no opportunity today goodbye. So you cling to the things that you normally would not even care about. Such as money and you cling even more to your children. Have you ever thought about doing therapy to actually get pa.s.sed the death of your husband? You have spoiled Thomas beyond spoiled. You took your heartbreak and pain out on Remi and Crystal. You transferred your resentment to Aisling. You know that there is not one person in this family who does not love you. For them to love you, you need to stop being this big child and take responsibility for your decisions. You need to start liking yourself and stop being a victim. You are a strong woman who comes from a long line of strong women. Where do you think Remi got so strong from? From you, you just have forgotten how strong you are. So stop moping about and looking for someone to take care of you. You can do this, I have faith in you. " Maureen stands and offers Charlie her hand. They walk out together to join the others. In the Kitchen Winona, is getting the kids a snack while Remi is starting dinner. They are not talking but the mood is a little strained. Winona is thinking of Remi"s session and Remi is worried about her mom. Charlie comes up from behind Remi and outs her arms around her. She stops what shE is doing and turns to hug her mom.
"I love you, mom, I don"t mean to be so hard on you. It"s just you are so different since Dad died. When I needed you most you shut down on me and shut me out. Yet you expect me to give up everything to you. I can"t do that anymore I have Crystal and hopefully, I will have Yona to take care of. I need you to find a balance. I can"t have the person I"m supposed to be able to depend on keep going from being loving and supportive to hateful all the time. I never know what I can say or do that won"t set you off on a tantrum." Charlie hugs Remi tightly and tells her.
" I know I just have been so lost since losing your Dad and I blamed you for so much of it. I"m sorry if Winona is still willing maybe she will help me get past it." Charlie says her goodbyes to everyone and leaves. Maureen just realized the never cleaned the room or lifted the truth spell from it. She looks at Remi and motions for her to come with her. They go to the sunroom Maureen looks at her sheepishly and tells her.
"Winona started your session before I could clear the room and lift the spell. I"m sorry the spell has been in place all day. I need you to get Winona out for a little while so I can clear the room." Remi laughs and tells her.
" It"s ok, I"m glad it was in place the whole time mom was here. It"s the first time in years I have been able to feel her sincerity and know it"s the truth. Is everything ready for move-in tomorrow morning? "
Maureen gives her a wink and a thumbs up.
Remi decides to take Winona with her to talk to Marshal about starting back to work.
