When Dude got back to the Rv there was only one seat left. Sam had moved to the front. He gives Astila a hateful glance and takes the seat in the back. Grabbing a pillow from the cubby he settles down and begins to sleep. Within a few minutes Dude is out. Sam looks back and sees he is asleep. He lets out a deep breath praying this will work. As Dude drifts off to sleep he hears soft crying. Looking around he sees a baby laying in a playpen. Looking around he notices he is in their old house. The shabby furniture and dirty clothes everywhere. The house smells of rotting food and dirty diapers. He walks around wondering where everyone is. He goes to look in his parents room. His mom is sleeping. The crying is getting louder he follows the cries walking into the girls bed room there is his Dad he is drinking and Aisling is on the floor crying. He is asking her something and she is begging him please no. He gets angry and smacks her a crossed the face. Dude touches his face it"s stinging as if he was the one hit . He gets closer he notices that he is looking at his father from the floor. Looking around it"s just his father in the room with him. He hears what his father is asking.
"Aisling please Daddy hurts can you please give it to me. " looking down on the floor is a syringe. Reaching for it to hide behind her back. She screams Daddy no please!!!! As he knocks her head against the wall knocking her unconscious. He is outside of her watching again. There his father is shooting up laying back on Aisling"s bed while she lays unconscious. He turns to run outside of the house but winds up at school. All of the kids are outside playing . Looking around he sees Aisling she is sitting by herself . Just watching others play, walking over he sits beside her. He closes his eyes and when he opens them he feels great sadness. Looking around everyone is still playing. Starting to stand he feels a sharp pain in his arm looking at it. It"s tied with a fishing line. He can"t move from this spot. Looking around frantically trying to get loose but the line is getting tighter. He hears laughter. It"s his older cousins they are pulling on the line.
"Come on Aisling we know your a witch so why can"t you get loose. Look everyone the poor little witch can"t free herself. " all of the kids are laughing and pointing at her. Some even have picked up some stone to hit her with them. One hits her in the face and cuts her cheek. She hears look the teachers are coming. They drop the line so she can get up and take off running. No one noticed that she was hurt . She covers her face with her long hair so n.o.body can see the blood dripping down her cheek. Dude falls to the ground from the sharp pains in his chest he can barely breathe by this point. Looking around he sees a man standing near by. Trying to get his attention to help him he notices the man is a ghost following Aisling around. It"s the same man that helped her from the car when their mom died. When she disappeared inside the school the pain subsided . He thinks to himself what is going on. Why is he seeing this and feeling such things. The school bell rings and they are on the bus. No one will sit with Aisling. She hides with her hair over her face. The bus stops in front of their house the one they live in now. She goes in and runs straight upstairs. She is cleaning her face and fixing her hair so no one can see the scratches. Once done she runs back down and starts cooking dinner. Debra walks in ignoring her as she goes upstairs. Dude sees himself come in. Grabbing a snack not once speaking to her. Aisling starts washing the dishes and their father walks in. Throwing his lunch thermos in the sink splashing her. Not saying a word to her . Dude touches his face it"s wet with tears. His heart is hurting again like he is having a hear attack or something. He sees Aisling wipe the tears from her eyes as she finished the dishes. She steps down off the stool and moves it to the stove . She yells for her dad that dinner is done. Everyone comes in and grabs a plate Debra is telling their dad about the football game and asks if she can get a new dress for the dance. He tells her we will see. No one still has not said a word to Aisling . It"s as if she is not there. After dinner she clears the table and her father walks in.
"I need you to babysit for one of the guys from work. They are going out of town for the weekend and need someone. Here is the note to get off the bus at their house. Make sure you do a good job I need this money. " with that he walks out of the kitchen and goes upstairs. Aisling is left to clean the kitchen. She makes the lunches for the next day . She looks at the clock it"s already nine at night sighing she goes to her room. There in the corner of the room she begins ironing the work shirts in the basket. Placing names on the clear trash bags they are hung up in when done. It"s well past midnight when finished but they are ready for her father to deliver in the morning.
Dude is overwhelmed by sadness when he hears her cry herself to sleep.
He turns in the seat and Sam watches him noticing he has been crying silently while he slept . His phone dings , it"s Moll asking if Dude is sleeping. He lets her know he is sleeping and he has cried for most of the last thirty minutes. She sent an emoji back.
Dude begins to talk in his sleep Astila looks at him through the mirror. He can"t understand what he is saying but he knows he is in distress. Dude is walking with Aisling watching her. She is watching some kids play in the park while she feeds another one.Debra and her friends comes over and ignores her and just gets money from her purse. Aisling tells her that she has to give it to Dad not to take it. Debra laughs at her and just walks away. Randy notices what Debra did and comes over . He hands her the money he has. Aisling tells him it"s ok she can"t take it. He says fine he wants to hire her for two hours to help him wash his dads car. Aisling nods ok and accepts the money. He waves bye and he will see her tomorrow. His Dad shows up to collect the money from Aisling . When she hands him what she has he just looks at her.
"This is not the agreed upon amount . Where is their mother she needs to pay you the full amount. Aisling looks at him and tells him. That Debra came by and took the rest that she needed something. He glares at her but says ok. She will need to do extra work to make up for it. He tells her he got her a job for after school starting on Monday he will be taking care of the old lady from the diner. He told her he would collect her money not to ask for anything. Also don"t forget to get the shirts from his coworkers done when she gets home. Dude sinks to the ground. Why did he never notice this going on. How come he and Debra never noticed that she was alone and ignored except when they needed something. Aisling I"m so sorry I understand now why the uncles are so protective of you. I"m so sorry. Can I please wake up now . Please I want out of this nightmare. He looks up and sees the man from before . The man that saved her from the accident.
"You are ready to wake but you haven"t seen the worst yet. You haven"t seen where she takes your beating for breaking the lamp. You haven"t seen her not sleep for days trying to care for your father while he lay dying while you ask her for more. You haven"t seen her fight the spirits of the victims of a serial killer all alone . You think this is all she suffered to protect and take care of you." By this time his insides are racked with pain and suffering. He is supposed to be a solder and he cannot handle this. How has his tiny sister been able to carry such burdens. Not only carry them but never yell or complain till now. Looking at him he begs to have this end. That he truly feels like he will die if he feels much more if this pain.
The man looks at him and simply says "wake up." With that Dude sits straight up in the seat eyes wide wake looking at the heavy wooded area they are driving through. Sam turns to him and smiles
"Sleep well."
