Chapter 8

Good morning. Let’s spend the day energetically.
Today starts with making bentos in addition to breakfast. After pofu pofing myself with the feather duster, let’s get started immediately.
I crushed the potatoes I had steamed, added the starch I dried yesterday (it’s only half-dried but it should be fine) and moulded it.
Steam it and done. Now we have tuber cakes that are great for carrying around.
I also garnished the skewers from yesterday with vegetables and surrounded it with thi—n wooden pieces I had cut out with [Cleaning].
Then I secured it with the string made from spinning the acetate thread.
Okay, the bento is complete.
And after brewing [MP Recovery Tea] like yesterday, preparations are complete.
Breakfast is meat and vegetable soup with tubers.
Since Katori and Hariu were just too pitiful, I focused on warm food as much as I could.
What do you mean you only ate fruits and raw meat. Raw meat.
……is raw meat good for body warmth……
errr
By the way, it seems like they are using their school bags to carry things.
Since everyone came by the chemistry lab before going off to do their own things, everyone’s bags were left in the chemistry lab.
Of course they didn’t do something foolish like each person carrying their own bag.
They are carrying all their food in one bag and brought another empty bag for stocking up on food.
Hagasaki-kun or President seems to be the one usually carrying the bag. It would be bad if someone in the front lines couldn’t move because they were carrying the bag.

efficient

As everyone woke up, they had the routine turn with the feather duster. And then breakfast.
“It’s been so long since I’ve had breakfast.”
Was from Katori. ……it’s really a good thing that we found these guys.
And as usual have a nice trip.
Now then, today is the day for the weaving I had been looking forward to, washoi!

yay

Making sure to not forget [Prayer Song], I also sang other songs to explore for other skills while laying out the warp on the loom.
After wrapping the weft around the shuttle, preparations are complete. I had them make a loom that had four shafts so I can do a bunch of different weaves, but for now I will do a plain weave.
I pa.s.sed the shuttle through to prepare the reed, moved the warp and pa.s.sed the shuttle through again.
……the fun part about this work. Ha—ah, it nice not to have to think. I can just relaxed and have fun singing while weaving.

….menial

And I made a 110cm wide, 5m long cloth.
Since it’s acetate, it’s not very durable but is fire resistant. That might be useful for something.
I weaved it with the gaps as tight as possible, so well, it shouldn’t be that weak.
Now then, since I’ve run out of fibers, I’ll be making lumber into fiber again. And then spin it and weave again!
Fufufufufufu, then tomorrow is sewing. Fufufufufufu.

fast!

……and I thought about it a little, but there’s no need to just keep making acetate right?
I chose acetate because it is the simplest when making textile from cellulose, but isn’t rayon or cupro or lyocell fine?
with alchemy anything is possible
And so I will be making lyocell.
Lyocell. Or tencel.
A regenerated fiber similar to natural fibers made by purifying cellulose, squeezing it into thin strands and solidifying it.
Its features is that it is stronger than cotton. It won’t become weaker even when wet. It dries easily. That’s it.
Unlike acetate where you stick something onto cellulose and make it a different material, this fiber is something simple made just by melting and solidifying cellulose.
But the name of the solvent is so long…….I don’t remember it! Honestly, I don’t remember a lot of things but I understand the concept.
Anyway, it’s just cellulose arranged in a straight line.
I managed to make acetate without acetic acid.
Just changing the arrangement should be easy with otherworld qualities.

alchemy

And so I prayed towards the mountain of lumber. Please become lyocell.
……mhm. It became some kind of fiber but I’m not sure if this is lyocell or acetate, I can’t tell.
Well, it’s fine. It has been made anyway.
After spinning it, lay it out on the loom and weave again!
Once I wove it, it had a different texture from acetate, so it really was lyocell. Probably.

…you weave too fast

And as I was doing that I missed the timing for lunch again.
Rather than lunch, it’s more of tea time. Dammit.
While chewing on fruits, I ate the leftovers from the bentos.
……I don’t think the taste is that bad. A success I guess.
The taste of the MP recovery tea is……well, it’s bad, but you can recover MP with this, so I can’t complain.
Disgusting, one more cup, that kind of thing. Mhm, this can’t be overlooked. It really is……

that bad?

In the afternoon, I sewed small bags using the cloth I weaved, these can be hung on a belt.
I simply thought that it would be better for them to be able to at least be able to carry their own MP recovery tea.
And then I sewed clothes other than a maid uniform for myself.
It’s sad that I have no pattern paper, so right now I can only sew a simple one piece dress.
I might also be able to do patterning with a skill, but considering energy, stamina and time, I gave up on that. I will work on that at some point……
By the way, skills also worked for sewing.
It’s a skill that just makes sewing faster, but I’m grateful for it’s simplicity.
I’m happy that I’ve been getting a lot of skills recently. It’s all related to sewing though. It’s all related to sewing though. It’s all related to sewing though!

got it

As I was preparing dinner, everyone came back earlier than usual.
“Welcome back. What happened, masters?”
“We found, this. You have to do a lot before it can be eaten, so we came back first.”
……I see.
As for why, it’s because they found it.
Wheat.
Wheat.
Whe, at.

no more potatoes!

I had Katori and Hariu quickly build a primitive thresher and we all worked on threshing the wheat.
I thought it would become a skill as we silently worked, but for some reason it didn’t.
……is it that, this is not a maid’s job? Incomprehensible.
I got mad so I used [Cleaning} and the grains were polished.
In an instant, they were polished.
I see, what I can already do won’t become a skill? Nn—?

What was all that effort just now for, bathed in everyone’s wordless gazes, I steamed the wheat grains. After steaming, I squeezed it between wooden boards, had Katori and Hagasaki-kun dry it with wind magic and rolled grains are done.
I would need a mortar to grind it and wanted something that could serve as a staple for the time being, so it’s rolled grains for now.
Also, I soaked part of the grains along with the husks in water.
I could plant it, I could make wort after they sprout, or I could crush it into starch and make starch syrup.
Hmmm, my dreams are spreading. Grains banzai!

bette than potatoes

Since we finally got grains, today’s meal will be boiled cereal. I thought it wouldn’t be that nice since it’s 100% wheat, but it was quite tasty. It was also well received with everyone.
It should be because of that, we were sick of tubers.

definitely

And following the early dinner, I thought we would be sleeping earlier, but we ended up having a meeting.
“First of all, everyone, show your dog tags. Since Hariu and Katori joined in, we need to understand what each person can do.”
It is as Suzumoto said.
Lately, I’ve been feeling like I’ve been left behind!
Come on, time to make sure that everyone is on the same page.
So everyone took off their dog tags and showed it to each other.
Summarising it, it is something like this.
tragic maid?
Suzumoto [Swordsman]
[Decapitate] [One-Handed Sword Skill] [Leap] [Acrobatics] [Sword Dance] [Poison resistance] [Increased Recovery Speed]
[Shippuuzan] [Tsubame] [Kawasemi] [Ageha]
(T/N: leaving the reading in j.a.panese because wouldn’t make sense in english except for first one, but basically [Hurricane Slash] [Swallow] [Kingfisher] [Swallowtail b.u.t.terfly], those fancy sword techniques)
very all the flying stuff

Hagasaki [Magician]
[Water Magic] [Ice Magic] [Wind Magic] [Increased Invocation Speed] [Poison Resistance]
[Ice Bullet] [Ice Coffin] [Water Cutter] [Clear Stream] [Wind Cutter] [Tempest]
perfect tsundere magic
Shachi [Scholar]
[Appraisal] [Earth Magic] [Mapping] [Construction Magic] [Emergency Evasion] [Poison Synthesis] [Poison Resistance]
[Earth Wall] [Earth Bullet] [Cultivation] [Bog]
….seems very….annoying
Kadomi [Knight]
[Sword Skill] [Bravery] [Decapitation] [Shield Skill] [Hunger Resistance] [Poison Resistance]
[Clean Hit] [Shield Guard] [Air Slash] [Force Blade]
may the force be with you
Katori [Sniper]
[Archery] [Snipe] [Wind Magic] [Mechanical Construction] [Remodel] [Poison Resistance]
[Needle Shot] [Wind Arrow] [Clear Breeze] [Wind Cutter]
breeze?
Hariu [Thief]
[Dagger Skill] [Dual Wield] [Discerning Eye] [Carpentry] [Acrobatics] [Poison Resistance]
[Cross Cutter] [Double Slice] [Hayabusa]
(T/N: [Falcon])
where’s steal?
Maito [Maid]
[Cleaning] [Ripen] [Ballad] [Treatment] [Increased Recovery Speed] [Watering] [Clothes Manufacturing]
[Prayer Song]
[Clothes Manufacturing] =Textile Alchemy + Thread Spinning + Weaving + Sewing
unique
Hmmm, mhm. That. I’m the only one out of place. Why am I such a maid.
Everyone looked at me with indescribable expressions. Sorry for being a maid.
nothing to say
For now there’s a few things I understood.
First is that everyone excluding me has [Poison Resistance].
Suzumoto, Hagasaki-kun, President and Kadomi-kun are probably because they drank poison that President made.
But Katori and Hariu……ah, I see. Food poisoning resistance, poison resistance for short. I see.
Furthermore, even if gotten through different means, the effects of skills do not change.
poison resistance?
There’s a need for me to get [Poison Resistance] urgently.
If not, it wouldn’t be funny if we all ate the same thing and I end up being the only one with food poisoning. I will become even more of a burden!
Okay, let’s get some poison from President later.
….stop with the selfharm
Second is that there really is a difference in skills.
No matter how you think about it, my skills are strange.
Why is it all magic this closely related to daily life.
Wouldn’t it be better for me to learn at least one combat skill too?
Let’s try swinging around the kitchen knife later.
not gonna work
Third is Suzumoto got [Increased Recovery Speed].
Eeeh, there’s examples like the food poisoning resistance type of poison resistance so I can’t say for sure, but could it be, he also……did it?
I’ll try asking him later. No, actually let’s not. It will just bring unnecessary trouble. I don’t want any more unnecessary trouble.

like the herb gathering?

“Maito, when did your skills increase?”
Hagasaki-kun said it with the nuance of [praising a bad student that got 60 marks]. d.a.m.n i—t!
“I told you before, it’s when you guys aren’t around! You can probably imagine how I got them though.”
“Mhm, well, sure.”
Dammit, this b.a.s.t.a.r.d, just because your skills are wonderful! Making fun of meeeee!
sad maid
“By the way, when looking at it like this, those displayed below the skills should be [Techniques].”
Techniques. Spells. Special Skills. Something like that.
My [Prayer Song] falls under that.
I only have one so I didn’t know, but apparently you can gain more depending on the [Skill].
For example, Hagasaki-kun’s is easy to understand.
[Ice Bullet] and [Ice Coffin] are both gained from [Ice Magic].
Suzumoto’s [Kawasemi] is exactly as it says, like a kingfisher, descend from a high alt.i.tude and while cutting through the enemy, land lightly, a terrifying technique that was apparently gained from [Leap], [Acrobatics] and [One-Handed Sword Skill].
Meaning there’s some that you get from mulitple skills.
So if I keep singing I might be able to learn something.
maybe?
And my [Clothes Manufacturing]. This is not seen among the others.
For some reason, it’s simplified.
Seems like if you obtain similar skills and they can be put together, it simplifies itself.
It certainly is a series of actions, so it’s not a problem but……
I don’t like that it looks like there is less skills.

……no point competing on that point

After that we each told each other about the effects of skills or techniques that wasn’t clear just be looking at the name.
And we distributed roles.
First, it might be obvious, but Suzumoto and Kadomi-kun are the vanguard. Kadomi-kun who can use a shield will hold them back, Suzumoto will make sure the enemy doesn’t go to the back while they defeat the enemy.
Hariu is the stopgap. If there are too many enemies for Kadomi-kun, he will draw away a few. If some get through Suzumoto, he will do something about them. That kind of thing.
Hagasaki-kun, President and Katori are the rear guard. President will make a wall and hiding behind it, they will attack with their magic or bow.
Additionally, Hagasaki-kun and Katori kun also serve as healers. [Clear Stream] and [Clear Breeze] are healing skills with similar effects.
And I’m house-sitting. Yes, no matter what anyone says I’m house-sitting.
I can’t even complain so I will stay quiet but. I will stay quiet but……it really is sad.
Mhm. Can’t be helped. I can only do what I can do.

end

Hecate had to look up stuff to find the weaving terms.

To put how ridiculous the [Weaving] skill is into perspective, to make cloth of that size by hand would take a skilled weaver about 3-4 days, and she made 2 in a single morning.

Basically this at about 30x the speed. While singing.
