Chapter 3
“Stop looking and secure the surrounding!”
Everyone had their screws loose because the job went well. I wonder if they still remember where we’re at right now. Not only that, but we could be attracting monsters if they caught a whiff of the gastric juice spilling out from the corpse.
“I told you to look after the other guys, why did you come back?”
“I’m sorry. Hahahaha.”
The Vice Captain just laughed it off as I rebuked him and as he looked down at the corpse, he seemed to recognize who it was. (TN – Vice Team Leader seemed to be a long know so I tried shortening it to Vice Captain)
“d.a.m.n this guy….Haaaaaaa, we meet again like this.”
“Is it someone you know?”
This guy was definitely a corpse, but his limbs were all intact. Well, this isn’t too bad. It would be hard to take those who come out as p.o.o.p, to their bereaved family. Can’t be taking a spoonful of s.h.i.t and telling some kid that it was his dad.
“Well, I’m just a Hyena so how close would I be to a Hunter?”
“Then?”
“There was a time in Ansan where I got to drink a cup of alcohol with him. I was able to sit together with him because my brother is a squire for the Ruhiel family. Hmmm……I heard he hasn’t returned since his reconnaissance mission, but to be meeting him like this. Anyways, this guy is in a very special category. He’s a Wind Walker.
“Wind Walker?”
I’ve been a Hyena for 10 years now and I’ve never heard of that Hunter cla.s.s before. Even if there are a lot of different Hunter cla.s.ses, I should know the decent ones….
The Vice made a strange face as he spoke.
“What is it……I’ve heard the details on it, but I’m not completely sure as well. What I do know is that their specialty is to go around in the Hunting Ground by themselves.”
“Alone? Isn’t that dangerous?”
“Yes, but I heard the Wind Walker cla.s.s was special, so it was safer for them to go out by themselves. As you know Captain, the Ruhiel family is in control of the wind right? They must somehow turn into the wind and then go out on their reconnaissance.”
“Hmm…..”
If that’s the case, he must have died during his reconnaissance. If he was able to go around by himself in these parts of the Hunting Ground, he shouldn’t have been a n.o.body without skills. I wonder what had happened to him for him to be lying here dead now.
With the help of the Vice Captain, we checked the body of the wind walker. He seemed to be carrying a lot of expensive items, but for the most part, they were broken. We found a couple of things that were still intact, but left them there. We might’ve gotten in trouble if we had taken it, since the Ruhiel family might be able to recognize the items. Not only that but I also took his special pocket already. (TN – so evil xD)
On the flip side, we don’t have to worry about the corpse. By tomorrow or the day after, it should be in the stomach of some other monsters. We should be done once we look around a bit more, to see if we can take anything that’s not too noticeable.
“This is?”
There was something there. It was a DSLR camera. It seemed to be broken, but the memory chip was still in one piece. I quickly took the chip out and put it into my vest. We also took a notepad filled with information. Besides that, there was only a wallet left.
There were $2,000 inside the wallet, in cash. He sure carried around a lot of money. He carried around 20 of the new $100 bills that came out recently. I gave all the cash to the Vice Captain.
“Buy the guys some food. Make sure you keep quiet on the body, nothing good is going to come out of talking about it.”
“Of course. Thankfully no one can even see it.”
The Vice Captain and I were behind a pile of dirt, so my team who was waiting to leave, couldn’t see the dead body.
I’m sure they know that I must have found something, but they won’t know what it is. There will also be guys who are curious to ask, but won’t ask any questions that have nothing to do with their survival. Not only that, but if I treat them with $2,000 they won’t care about anything anymore.
“Let’s go, tell the guys to leave.”
“Yes, Captain.”
With a flick of the Vice Captain’s hand, the guys who were waiting, started advancing cautiously. The Vice Captain and I followed behind them very slowly.
As we were slowly walking, I turned around and gave a light bow to the dead wind walker.
Rest in peace.
* * * *
City of An-yang.
A military city as well as an advanced base that obstructs the monsters. It is also the functional capital of South Korea.
“Hey! Captain Yoo!”
I was drinking in a bar when I heard a familiar voice calling out to me.
As I looked behind me, I saw Captain Kim and Captain Heo leading their own respective Hyenas. They’re pretty close to me, and today we planned to meet up in order to trade goods and information.
“I heard you got quite the haul this time around? Congratulations.”
“I congratulate you as well.”
Both Captain Kim and Captain Heo were laughing as they congratulated me.
Because the whole trip went well, we were able to make quite a bit of money. I was able to make about $300,000,000 while my team members each got about $100,000,000. This amount might be laughable to a rich Hunter, but for Hyenas, it was considered to be very successful.
“I’ll be buying today so drink as much as you want.”
We gave our cheers in a happy atmosphere.
These guys are friends I won’t be seeing anymore once I retire. n.o.body knows of it yet, but I’m planning on surprising them all with my retirement. Let’s grab a quiet place to sit. I’m sick of spending my days being jealous of Hunters.
“Congrats!! Let’s all Drink! Hahahaha!!”
“If you have a good job like that next time, let’s go together with my team.”
It suddenly became a much more festive atmosphere. We were a bit louder, but because we were at a bar, it didn’t matter. The table next to us were just as loud as we were.
Unfortunately, wherever you go, there will always be those grumpy folks.
“Hey, can you be a bit quieter there?!”
With the sudden shout, the three of us closed our mouths and looked toward the one who said it. The wild Captain Kim said, “Which Motherf.u.c.ker…..” but quickly closed his mouth afterwards. Captain Heo next to him was frowning.
“f.u.c.k, what luck. It’s a Hunter…..”
Who would’ve thought there would be a Hunter. It’s laughable for us to just be sitting here quietly though.
To begin with, I apologized.
“I’m sorry.”
In situations like these, it’s the adult thing to do to just pa.s.s it off lightly. Captain Heo also apologized and drank his alcohol. Everyone else in the store decided to turn around to mind their own business, as they continued to talk away.
Unfortunately, the Hunter didn’t seem to be satisfied.
“As usual, they say that empty wagons are always louder, and these dung flies are such bulls.h.i.t. Why does it smell like rotten s.h.i.t in here? Huh?”
With that said, this guy’s Hunter companion seemed to get fl.u.s.tered.
Chapter 3 – End.
