Chen Linyun couldn"t help smiling. His wife was acting so childish right now, not fitting a former COO nor an heiress, more like a spoiled kid. Well, maybe it fits her well as an heiress. Deep within him, he knew that Xue Jinxu only acted this way in front of him. It"s something for his eyes only.
"I"m all ears now. Let"s resolve it quickly. Then, let"s move on to the next agenda." He said teasingly, implying something they both knew.
The wife rolled her eyes some more, not ready to give in easily.
"I don"t care what particular position you put me in as long as I can help you with your workload. As far as I am concerned I can even be a ghost employee for all I care – I can work here at home – I don"t care! My main goal is simply to lift some of the workload off your shoulders. That"s it. Is it that hard to grant? I mean, it"s for you... I worry about your health…"
"Hey, hey… You"re getting worked up, dear. Chill." The caring husband rubbed his hands around her arms as he planted a kiss on her forehead. "I get you now, okay? If that"s what you want, then I"m not seeing anything wrong with it."
"I"m even thinking of appointing you as OIC for two weeks during my trip. You just have to make sure everything"s running smoothly as per company rules and my standards."
"Yes Sir!" She giggled and buried her flushed face on his chest. "You"re the best. I know you"ll agree to it. If you only hear me out earlier…"
"But."
Chen Linyun raised an eyebrow. "During those two weeks, you are on probation. I will check on your work once I arrive. Don"t burn our company down, honey, alright?"
"Hey, that"s highly insulting! Why would I? It"s our bread and b.u.t.ter, and your entire life! Of course I"ll take care of it!" She raised her head as she raised her voice and glowered at him. She stomped her foot in dismay and injustice. It landed on Chen Linyun"s foot.
"Ow!"
"Serves you right! Just so you know, it"s unintentional!"
"Jinxu…" He began coaxing her wife who was starting to lose her cool. He laughed a little. "I"m just kidding! Of course I know you would do well, dear. I know you would."
"Before my trip, can you start being my second right hand, if that"s fine with you?"
"Second? Why second? Who"s the first right hand?"
"Jin Yuan. Should I fire him?"
Xue Jinxu laughed. "No need. I can be your second right hand a.k.a. your secretary."
"Oh, secretary? No. My wife doesn"t allow me to take in any female secretaries."
Xue Jinxu laughed some more while shaking her head. "Cla.s.sic."
Chen Linyun turned serious. "The real issue here is…"
"Hmm?" Xue Jinxu blinked in antic.i.p.ation. She got nervous for the answer as well. Honestly speaking, she did not have any idea what really was the matter between them.
"It"s me."
"Oh come on, Chen Linyun, that"s cliché!"
"No, really, Jinxu. I got insecure for a while. I"m really sorry, dear. I"ll watch myself from now on, I promise.""Really? What did I do to provoke you?"
"Nothing. I just didn"t understand why you were pus.h.i.+ng for it at first." He tightened his hold around his wife. She did the same. Locked in each other"s embrace, they shared each other"s warmth that particular cold night in November.
After coming from his talk with Mo Wenbin, he felt the curtain inside his head that had been keeping him from seeing the light got swept aside and his mind and vision became so much clearer.
"You"re such a strong, independent woman. Maybe I just misread the situation and thought that you most probably want to take over in Chen Holdings, replacing me, your husband in the process. In that sense, that"s quite upsetting. If I were you, wouldn"t you feel offended?"
"Hmm… I would." She turned her head sideways, still leaning onto Chen Linyun"s chest and shoulder. "Sorry, dear. I was doing it for you but I failed to see things through your eyes. I admit it, I"m at fault too. My intentions were there, but the delivery… maybe… it did not come out as enticing or pleasing as I envisioned it to be. And to think I was expecting a pat in the back or a tap on my head and a sweet "thank you" from you but then I got nothing but a cold treatment." She was acting cute again as she complained with an exaggerated pout as she raised her head to show him her made-up face. "It had hurt me so badly."
"Hurt you where? My baby, Jinxu?" Chen Linyun scowled as he played along.
"Here." She pointed at her chest. "It was throbbing so hard that I wanted it to stop beating."
"Oh no." Chen Linyun loosened his arms around his lady. His next action quite took the wife by surprise. He docked and dived towards her chest where her heart is, and kissed it. "Does it still hurt?" He leaned his ear on it, trying to hear her heartbeat.
"It"s fully healed! Wow, how magical!" Fl.u.s.tered, Xue Jinxu could feel her heart going berserk as if it wanted to jump out of her chest. "You have a knack for it." She murmured under her breath. Her cheeks were quite the bright shade of red. Her lashes flickered with bashfulness and feebleness. She felt lightheaded. If Chen Linyun had done his tricks the night that they quarreled, she thought that she would have probably readily folded and simply rested her case, gave in to his decision, and would not have pushed for a position in Chen Holdings, end of story.
This guy. He could actually make this strong independent woman weak in the knees.
When Chen Linyun lifted his head again from her chest, the lady could feel his intense gaze on her. Her cheeks felt so much hotter. Her hand automatically tapped her cheek as a defensive response.
"Are we all good? Can we now move on to the next agenda? Can we continue in the bedroom?" Without waiting for her reply, he crouched and fetched her from the couch, never once tearing his intense gaze from her face. "My wife is extremely beautiful tonight. So alluring, I"m completely drawn in." He murmured as he took steady steps towards the master"s bedroom at the second floor.
Xue Jinxu"s cheeks burned even more from his words, but she, too, could not tear her gaze away. She, too, could feel the burning desire from within her to be conquered fully by this man, her lawfully wedded husband. Who cares about their dispute? Come to think of it, it"s quite petty, indeed.
"Let"s not fight again." She breathed back.
"En."
Xue Jinxu caressed his cheeks as he walked up the flight of stairs, carrying her. Then, she laid her intoxicated, expectant lips on his, busying herself on it. All of her brain"s concentration was focused on kissing deeper and deeper.
The husband kissed back, while making sure they both safely landed on the second floor. "Quite impulsive and impatient, this wife. We"re still on the stairs, we could have tripped. Thankfully, we didn"t. Oh how delicious these devil lips are. I miss this." He threw more smooches on her supple lips, biting it a little each time. The corner of his mouth twitched up.
He pushed the master"s bedroom door with his back, not letting go of the wife in his arms. He laid her on the bed, and laid himself on top of her the next second. Both hands automatically searched and lingered on their bodies.
The lady giggled.
"I miss you, I really do." She kissed him some more.
"I"m really sorry." *Kiss* "I"m just a lowly person – a man with his own set of weaknesses…" *Kiss* "Not perfect, can also be a jerk sometimes." *Kiss* This time their kiss was a bit longer.
"You"re already the best in the entire universe." The lady replied. She giggled some more. Chen Linyun was already working double time on her neck. She ruffled his hair with her fingers. "It"s understandable that even the best is not perfect. You"re not a lifeless robot. I"m thankful for that single fact."
"And…" She added with panting breath as her hands hovered on his body, "a little fight spices our matrimony, no? I wouldn"t mind it as long as we get past through it, and I get a reward afterwards. But as much as possible, let"s not hurt each other, please."
"Okay, enough of the talking. Is this reward good enough?"
The lady laughed her heart out. "Yes, Sir!"
