The clock ticked by the second.

At first, all the people – both family and guests – wore such cordial, cheerful faces at the wedding venue, patiently waiting for the arrival of the entourage.  All were excitedly chitchatting about light, trivial things like bees.

However, minutes by minutes, the clock"s hand kept on turning into myriads of full circles.  Those who were present to tell the tale started to lose their jovial mood.  Some even wantonly expressed their annoyance.  Others chose to leave silently, as there were busy, important people present, and such waiting was a waste of precious time.

s.h.i.+ Fan Hai stood proud and happy, but underlying the mask of polite decorum, he was anxious and angry… and still hopeful.  At long last, Man Rui would be his forever.  At long last, his father succ.u.mbed to his lifelong wish, his only bidding.

Yet…

"Where is she?  Did something happen?"

He was anxious and felt the possibility of the ugly option that perhaps his bride would not show off, but he still chose to hang on to the sliver of hope no matter how thin and unstable it could be.

"She might come in any moment."

"I should have taken precautions."

"I have been too lax."

Clenching his fists, his eyelids drooped sheepishly while still maintaining on his lips a smile that could deceive anyone whom he pleases.  He was sweating profusely, and droplets trickled down his temples anxiously.  He could feel everyone"s gaze on him.  He was on spotlight.

He wasn"t the only one on the spotlight, though.  The whole Teng family was with him, and of course, his father, too.  Such humiliation was unnerving.  Mother Teng was shaking all over, but, she, too tried to keep her cool.  She could not lose any more face than she already had.

She, too, had faith that somehow her obedient, benevolent daughter would still show up.  "She needs this marriage to save her reputation!"

Yet, as the clock never stopped even for a rest, the day came to a close.  One by one, the guests left not witnessing what they came for, but definitely had brought home with them plenty of scoop for the next day.

Master s.h.i.+ had left as well, and while pa.s.sing his son, the groom, he shot sharp arrows of glances that were most probably sent out with every intention to burn his son alive right then and there. Pity, it wasn"t possible.

The Teng Family apologized to every guest whom they could reach out and still stayed longer than the rest.  They turned to the s.h.i.+ young master afterward and relayed their sincerest apologies to him.

s.h.i.+ Fan Hai was already trembling with anger and humiliation and wretchedness, and he could not even speak nor act normally, except for still standing tall, in spite of.

At the end of that day, in an empty hall in the middle of disarray stood a young man in a tuxedo, eyes blazing with terror and unearthly wrath, still trembling from what had transpired – or the absence of it thereof.  He howled, breaking the unbearable gloom that crept in the air, and howled he went berserkly.

Panting, he ripped his collar with one hand, as he headed towards the majestic exit of the ballroom.

s.h.i.+ Fan Hai revved the engine of his BMW sports car as he traversed the long and winding high way.  The sky was dark, devoid of stars, and the wind was giving out an ominous hint of what lies ahead.

The devil sped up towards the only place he could think of.  He needed to vent his anger.  Someone had to receive his anger.

…And who knows, he might find a treasure there – a treasure who had been expected by many that day, and who ditched them all.  Him, in particular.

He had known his place for a while.  He had known that his woman had been staying there for a period before.  He kept his eyes on his woman, but he was lenient because he believed in her, in them.

"But that"s bulls.h.i.+t."

He clenched his teeth and stepped on the gas.  The car jerked, but he did not flinch.

As soon as he arrived, he went straight to his place and banged his door.  "COME OUT!"

The building"s security guards rushed after him and tried to stop him, but they couldn"t possibly just seize him.  Judging from his appearance and behavior, he couldn"t be just a mere commoner.  Thus, they approached him with caution.

s.h.i.+ Fan Hai frantically yelled and made a scene.

"WHERE IS SHE?!!"

"MAN RUI!!!"

"b.a.s.t.a.r.d, THAT"S MY WOMAN!!!"

"MINE!!"

"MAN RUI!!!"

"COME OUT!!!  NOW!!!"

"I WILL FORGIVE YOU IF YOU SURRENDER YOURSELF NOW!!"

"YOU KNOW BETTER, MAN RUI!!!"

He slammed and slammed the door, but for naught.  There wasn"t any occupant in the house.

Distraught, he made his way out towards the open parking lot in front of the building.

s.h.i.+ Fan Hai was intoxicated.  He had been drinking casually while waiting in the ballroom.  With alcohol and plain wrath in his bloodstream, he became some notches more dangerous than he already was.  He was no worse than a monster gone unleashed, unrestrained, so ready to destroy anyone who would dare to stop him.  He went on rampant down towards his car.

At the parking lot, when he was finally settled in and just as he was about to leave, he saw his target disembark from a black Cadillac.  He gripped the steering wheel of his parked car tighter before he alighted from it.

The wind howled an ominous threat of impending bloodshed from some sort of duel of two men whose hearts beat for one single lady – a lady who did not even choose any of them.
