Chapter 265 To Get the Mask 4
The funeral ceremony ended to a halt at the appearance of a giant centipede with a dragon’s head. Baring its mouth with rows and rows of sharp teeth, it quickly bit off the two guards’ heads within a blink.
Ren, Evie, and Ragnar all teleported to a safe distance when it slithered in their direction, its ma.s.sive body wreaking havoc on everything it touched. The three teleported into areas that were hidden from plain sight. They knew that the Night Thing would be after their throats this time – all to silence them.
And to emerge victorious from this fight and get that Mask, they must survive even with just one member left until the Orcs and the others can kill it. If they failed, then . . . it was game over.
The quest would be lost in history, as well as that Mask. And the True Ending would be lost forever. Shurna would become chieftain, and Twin Moon Axe Clan would suffer from her rule. They would ally with the demonic G.o.ds and bring ruin upon them.
The Night Thing shrieked and trampled everything in its path, searching for Ren and the others. It was so fast and angry, and if they hadn’t use [Teleportation], [b.u.t.terfly of Deceit], and [Blink], they would have been smashed to smithereens or even flung fifty feet high into the air before being swallowed by the Night Thing in one full swoop.
They weren’t a match for the Night Thing. They knew that, and one wrong move meant death. It couldn’t be outrun, nor could they defend themselves against it once it attacked. All they could do was hide from it until the Orcs could kill it.
The challenge seemed simple enough but hard to do. Especially since the Night Thing’s attention was solely on them, they didn’t have anything in their skills or spells that could combat it. All they had were [Teleportation] for Ren, [b.u.t.terfly of Deceit] for Evie, and [Blink] for Ragnar. All of which were only one left to use for the day.
The strategy was simple to understand but hard to execute. They each should be as far apart as they could and avoid drawing the Night Thing’s attention. They should each save their escape skill in case the Night Thing spot them.
At most, the fight would last for at least twenty minutes tops since there were so many Divine Users in the camp to finish the Night Thing off. The downside was there weren’t so many places to hide inside the camp. Good thing that the Orcs were bringing the fight outside, into the forest where they could hide amongst the trees and bushes.
Once engaged, they couldn’t stray too far away from the Night Thing, though. The system would prevent them from doing so since there was an area restriction in every Boss fight. They couldn’t just play chase all over the Great Valley. The only solution left was to play hide and tag against it.
Sharina and her warriors engaged the Night Thing bringing the beast outside the camp while the Divine caster was at the back, chanting a ritual to kill the creature.
With a surge of anger and madness, Sharina didn’t hold anything back. It was like she had no regard for her life as she overwhelmed the Night Thing by striking blow after blow.
Two tomahawks replaced Sharina’s weapon, and like clashing rams, her weapons impact soundly against the Night Thing’s thick skin. It sounded and felt like metal, the end of her blades connected, producing a booming clang.
Sharina continued the momentum of her spin, giving her weapons the force to drive the Night Thing back. The Night Thing suffered a butchering chop from her powerful, wide-arching swiped, and everyone heard a grisly snick as her chop landed in all parts of its body.
The Orcs reciprocated Sharina’s anger with their own, and they also held nothing back as they swarmed the Night Thins with weapons in hands.
The Night Thing was locked in combat and fending off the Orcs while simultaneously searching for Ren, Evie, and Ragnar’s whereabouts.
Low and feral sounds escaped from the Night Thing’s throat that could only be rage. This one wished only to wreak mindless destruction and carnage, and it would not stop until it got what it wanted. It no longer cared for its safety and life. It knew that if it didn’t kill Ren, Evie, and Ragnar, she was good as dead by sunrise.
The Night Thing lashed out with the venomous wrath of an angry serpent. With each sway, trees fell, and rocks broke. With each powerful bite, someone dies.
The Night Things long slithering body wrecked trees, boulders, and hills, exposing everything in its sight. While it’s busy fending off the Orcs, its multiple eyes were searching for its prey until it found one.
It was hiding in the Orcs’ ranks, and it almost missed it. The Night Thing let out a loud roar. It locked its eyes on Ragnar. No one could stop it, and all who dared were flung fifty meters into the sky before crashing hard on the ground.
An alarmed group of Orcs urged Ragnar to hide as the Night Thing stampeded on his way. They didn’t have to ask twice. Ragnar activated [Blink] and escaped timely towards the bushes behind the Night Thing, away from its sight. He was within a hair’s breadth of being trampled by the creature.
The Night Thing released another ear-piercing growl. Its multiple eyes narrowed while its head shifted left and right. It was focused on finding its prey that it didn’t notice the fast-approaching Divine Magic its way.
A series of blows made the Night Thing howl in anger and pain. The attack was enough to throw it off balance, and it smashed into the ground, quaking the earth from its fall.
The barrage of Divine Magic didn’t stop there. Another more came crashing against the Night Thing, pulverizing it on the dirt. The Divine Magic collided with a thunderous force, destroying the Night Thing’s thick scales with a thunderous blow. The earth quaked and hallowed while the Night Thing’s cries reverberated in all corners of the forest.
The smoke and dust covered their vision, and for a time, they were blinded by the smog of destruction. And when everything settled, everyone held their breath upon the sight of the Night Thing.
A ma.s.sive crevice was on the earth, and the Night Thing was seen plastered on the ground. Its eyes were closed, and there was a ma.s.sive wound on its neck to its torso.
Sharina looked closely at its wounds. Its skin was burned from Divine Magic, but the wound on its chest seemed like it was there before they even engaged it this night.
Sharina didn’t care about its wounds. She was going to give it the finishing blow and cut its head, stake it on their walls, and dry it on the heat. It wasn’t enough to sate her anger, but it would have to do.
She raised her tomahawk just in time for the Night Thing’s eyes to shot open.
