Chapter 500: War of the Fishmen

One hour later, Jiang Fei arrived at the Sea of Purgatory.
There were no s.h.i.+ps then. Naturally, Jiang Fei and Isabella could not set sail. So, there they stood, watching the sea stretch out to the horizon.
“Where’s the Mutated Sea Serpent?” said Jiang Fei, annoyed as there was nothing in sight.
“Look there,” said Isabella as she pointed toward a certain direction.
Jiang Fei saw a small island that was not too far from where they were. Even though he could not see clearly, he could somehow make out something that was moving around that looked like snakes.
“Hmm. That island’s shape is weird. Must have something to do with the Mutated Sea Serpent,” said Jiang Fei. He called the Juvenile Skygliding Dragon and flew across the waters. Two to three minutes later, the two arrived at the top of the island.
“Yeah, that’s it.”
From the sky, he could make out the shape of the island. It was divided in half by a large wall. On one side, there was nothing abnormal. On the other side, near the beach, there were many Mutated Sea Serpents slithering around happily in shallow waters.
“Let’s go,” Jiang Fei pulled the reins of the dragon and landed on the beach.
Even though the water was shallow, the Sea Serpents were considered to be ocean beings. The Juvenile Skygliding Dragon was a land and sky mount. It could not go anywhere close to water. Hence, Jiang Fei could not fight the Mutated Sea Serpent while riding the dragon.
“Sigh… It’s unfortunate that the dragon can’t act as our tank,” said Jiang Fei. The dragon was the perfect tank since it had high defense and health points. With it standing in the front to take all the damage, Jiang Fei could fight a Level 70 boss without breaking a sweat.
Thankfully, the Sea Serpents were Level 65 Advanced Elite-tier monsters. They were not hard to kill since they were not 10 levels ahead of Jiang Fei. Jiang Fei could kill almost anything as long as the Level Suppression system did not bother him.
“The only problem now is air. The Sea Serpents are underwater. If we go down under, we could only kill one of them before coming up for air. This is going to take a while,” said Jiang Fei.
“Hmm?” Just then, Jiang Fei saw an NPC with a yellow nametag. As soon as the name appeared, it disappeared. The name had suddenly appeared for a split second in a red forest. There were no other monsters nor NPCs sighted there.
Jiang Fei descended and walked into the red forest. In no time at all, Jiang Fei found the NPC that he had eyed on earlier.
Cowardly Gulu (Fishmen, Elite)
Level: 65
Health Points: 120,000
Attack Power: 6,500
Note: Tidehunter Tribe Fishmen
What Jiang Fei saw was rather funny. When Jiang Fei spotted the Fishmen, he was hiding in between two rocks or at least, trying to. As it was humanoid sized, he had failed miserably to hide in between two rocks the size of a small was.h.i.+ng machine. The gap between the rocks was small so the Fishmen had tried his best to squeeze himself in. His rear was pointed up and his feet were pus.h.i.+ng against the ground, trying to push himself into the gap even though it was obvious that he could not do it.
When Jiang Fei and Isabella got closer, the little Fishmen was praying furiously, “Don’t eat me! Don’t eat me! Gulu is not tasty! Gulu will give you a stomachache! Gulu is boney! Gulu is hard to chew!”
“Hey!” cried Jiang Fei as he kicked the little Fishmen.
He had no intention to attack this Fishmen. There was no reason to anyway. Jiang Fei had only come to talk to this NPC since his name was yellow in color. There was a chance that he might issue a quest. On the other hand, he was too funny to be killed!
“GYAAAA! DON’T EAT ME!” cried the little Fishmen louder than before.
“If you don’t stop, I’ll chop your head off and feed your body to the Sea Serpents!” said Jiang Fei as he kicked him again.
“WAHHH! Alright! Alright!” cried the little Fishmen. The name Cowardly Gulu fitted this NPC perfectly since after he had kicked him harder, Gulu immediately turned around to face Jiang Fei.
“What are you doing?” said Jiang Fei.
The Fishmen named Gulu had the head of a fish and a humanoid lower half with fish scales that grew all over his body. His legs were that of a fin of a frog. His hands were deformed as they were shorter than a human’s. He had a small blade in his hand. Even though he was a Level 65 Elite-tier monster, he did not look like he could even harm a fly.
“Waaa! Lord Explorer! Please forgive me! I am but the Tidehunter Tribe’s patrol soldier!” cried the Cowardly Gulu.
“Huh? A soldier? How is someone like you, a cowardly Fishmen, a soldier?” said Jiang Fei as he arched an eyebrow.
“O great explorer, we Fishmen are not fighters. We have survived by escaping and we do that best. All patrol members are cowards. As soon as we find danger close by, we would run back to our tribe to warn the others to escape!” explained the Fishmen as he understood that Jiang Fei was an explorer that was not dangerous.
“I see. So that means your tribe is close!”
“That’s right! That’s right! There’s even a match between the Tideseeker Tribe!” said Gulu.
“Is that so?”
Jiang Fei’s interest was piqued instantly. He wondered how these cowardly species fought each other.
“My lord, as you can see. The sun is setting soon. The match will start as soon as the sun hits the horizon!!” said Gulu as he had confirmed that Jiang Fei was not going to kill him. He was no longer scared of him and even started to dance around as he talked.
“I see,” said Jiang Fei. He had a sudden idea. Since gathering the nerves of the Mutated Sea Serpents was going to take a while, he might as well take a little detour to see that fuzz of a fight.
“My lord! Look! Look! The sun is setting!” cried the little Fishmen as he jumped around with his finger pointed to the horizon.
Jiang Fei turned to see the sun setting on the horizon. Just then, the waves got stronger and hundreds of Fishmen came out of the sea, with short swords in their hands.
“Look! Look! That’s the warrior of my tribe!” cried Gulu happily.
At that moment, another large wave came in and in a similar fas.h.i.+on to the previous emergence of Fishmen, the other tribe arrived. The two tribes immediately started to fight each other.
“What the h.e.l.l… They all look the same. How do you even tell one apart from the other?” said Jiang Fei as he observed the fight. From his point of view, the two tribes looked identical to each other.
“My lord! Look closely at the neck! The Tidehunter Tribe has scales and gills with red spots! The Tideseeker Tribe has blue spots!” Gulu explained. Jiang Fei squinted to look closer. Without the light of the setting sun, it was almost impossible to tell the difference! The color difference was so minuscule that it would take an expert to identify it!
