Chapter 406: The Destruction of the Golden Hands

“Do you people really not trust me?” said the golden-robed apostle, sounding a bit exasperated.
“Yeah.”
“Now that you know we don’t trust you, just save your breath and do as we say.”
“…” The golden-robed apostle nodded with an inscrutable expression on his face.
Just then, the ceiling caved in. A beam of golden light fell through like a waterfall. The Demon Spider Lady standing in the corner was reduced to a b.l.o.o.d.y puddle almost instantly.
The three apostles managed to conjure elemental barriers of various colors over themselves before the beam of light hit them.
The silver-robed apostle’s flame elemental barrier was disintegrated in an instant. Having lost his Lord-tier familiar, he was left with two Commander-tier familiars. The paper-thin barrier that his Commander-tier familiars were able to muster didn’t stand a chance against the golden beam of light.
An earth elemental barrier s.h.i.+mmered across the red-robed apostle’s body. Compared to the other elements, the earth element was capable of providing the strongest defense.
Even though his familiar, the Saprophytic Earth Dragon, was confined within an ice prison, it was still able to erect a barrier over its trainer using a small portion of its earth elemental power.
Fragments of blue light glinted across the blue-robed apostle.
The Blue-Scaled Four-Armed River Ape stumbled as it hurried towards its trainer. Despite the terrible injury it had sustained, it still managed to erect an elemental barrier over its master using a portion of its water elemental energy. The river ape pressed one hand against its chest as it limped towards where the blue-robed apostle was, its eyes fixed fiercely in his direction!
The golden-robed apostle held out what looked like a golden rug in his right hand. The arcane markings on it began to swim and swirl until they converged into the shape of an eye.
The golden rug fluttered in the windless room, then expanded into a cape before wrapping itself around the golden-robed apostle. He now looked like some great Persian king gazing at the two surviving apostles with an aloof expression.
“You left me no choice. When I’m done with the two of you, I’ll be the one to lead the Golden Hands to glory,” said the golden-robed apostle humbly.
He looked at the blue-robed apostle, whose elemental barrier seemed flimsier and dimmer than the others. Better to amputate an infected limb than let it infect the rest of the body.
Even though such a saying didn’t exist in the Jinsha region’s vernacular, its meaning could still be comprehended by anyone outside the Huaxia region.
The golden rug slithered across the golden-robed apostle’s arm before lunging out at the blue-robed apostle. It coiled itself around its prey like a python.
The blue-robed apostle’s fingers and legs that were left exposed outside the golden rug stiffened. His body spasmed for a while. Then, with a thud, he collapsed to the ground.
The Blue-Scaled Four-Armed River Ape, who was running like mad through the streets, fell to the ground at the same time.
An intense pain gripped its entire body. It was as if it had been struck by lightning. Try as it might, the river ape could no longer get back to its feet.
“Next,” said the golden-robed apostle with a faint smile as he turned towards the red-robed apostle.
Boom! The sounds of battle were drawing closer outside the window. Looking out the window, the golden-robed apostle sighed. “Pity. Well then, I won’t waste any more time on foreplay.”
He then pointed a finger at the red-robed apostle. The golden rug flew out and wrapped itself around its victim. Suddenly, the golden rug fell to the ground with a plop.
The red-robed apostle had disappeared inside it.
“Slippery old devil. Looks like he’s got quite a number of tricks up his sleeve that none of us knew about.”
He called back his familiar with a gesture and walked out of the room without looking back at the fallen bodies of his former compatriots.
Suddenly, he stopped. At the entrance of the stairwell, a huge, black figure was barring his way.
“Found you,” growled Dumby. It was holding a b.l.o.o.d.y bone sword in its right hand with its blade facing backward. It lightly caressed the wall with its left hand. In an instant, the wall collapsed, filling the air with dust and smoke.
…
The air rippled before the Desolate Frost Lion, who simply yawned and conjured an ice prison over the disturbance.
When the red-robed apostle opened his eyes, he found himself trapped inside the ice prison. The look of relief on his face disappeared almost as soon as it had appeared.
Gao Peng beamed at him. Out of the frying pan and into the fire.
The red-robed apostle had obtained this fail-safe ability when the Saprophytic Earth Dragon reached Lord-tier. With this ability, he could teleport himself to the side of his strongest familiar before an enemy could inflict fatal damage upon him.
The range of this ability was limited by his spiritual strength. However, its minimum range was at least a few hundred miles.
The red-robed apostle despondently sat down on the ground in his ice prison. He had lost all will to fight.
Half an hour later, Dumby came back with a ragged golden rug in one hand and a man completely covered in his own blood in the other.
“Master, I’ve captured the guy who tried to escape. This is his familiar.” Dumby casually threw the golden-robed apostle to the ground. He was still holding the golden rug in his hand.
Despair crept into the red-robed apostle’s heart when he saw the golden-robed apostle lying unconscious on the ground. Guess he didn’t make it out of there in time, he thought.
He couldn’t help but feel a wave of sadness wash over him at the sight of his former compatriot’s unconscious form.
“I hear there are four apostles in the Golden Hands. I only see two here,” said Gao Peng, frowning. Did the other two escape? “Where are the others?” Gao Peng asked the red-robed apostle.
“They’re no longer here,” replied the red-robed apostle with a sigh. “The other two were killed by him.”
His eyes were fixated on the golden-robed apostle lying on the ground. Who knew the Golden Hands would end up this way just because of one person?
A troubled look floated across the red-robed apostle’s face. He looked as if he was about to say something, but then he bit his lip and decided against it.
He leaned back on the wall of his ice prison without saying another word.
The cries of anguish from the streets began to die down. The White Steel Bladed Beast had made quick work of most of the enemy familiars, the strongest among them being Commander-tier. Even the Lord-tier Silver-Winged Mirage b.u.t.terfly stood no chance against it.
“I can’t believe the Golden Hands’ headquarters was decimated just like that.” The Jinsha region’s Alliance government was now in a furor. Everyone had been watching what was happening there through the government’s satellite feed. Even though none of them were directly partic.i.p.ating in the ongoing battle, they had been paying close attention to it.
The walking skeleton’s ma.s.s resurrection ability and the tiny, white-colored creature who was able to take out the Silver-Winged Mirage b.u.t.terfly in an instant were nothing short of extraordinary.
On the other hand, even though Flamy and the Desolate Frost Lion hadn’t done too bad themselves, they didn’t stand out that much on the battlefield and so didn’t receive as much attention from anyone in the Alliance government.
“Incredible, the Golden Hands group was wiped out just like that,” muttered a lady in a yellow uniform. She was looking at Gao Peng on the screen with her arms folded across her chest. The look on her face was one of awe and respect for Gao Peng’s strength as a monster trainer.
“This Gao Peng has at least five Lord-tier familiars with him!” said a general in the room solemnly.
Silence instantly fell over the room.
