But will He prove a friend indeed?
He will, the very friend you need-- The Friend of sinners; yes, "tis He, With garments dyed on Calvary.
Rise, touched with grat.i.tude divine, Turn out His enemy and thine; That soul-destroying monster, sin; And let the heavenly Stranger in.
GLORY TO HIS NAME!
Down at the cross where my Saviour died, Down where for cleansing from sin I cried, There to my heart was the blood applied-- Glory to His name!
CHORUS:
Glory to His name, Glory to His name!
There to my heart was the blood applied-- Glory to His name!
I am so wondrously saved from sin,-- Jesus so sweetly abides within,-- There at the cross where He took me in-- Glory to His name!
O precious fountain that saves from sin, I am so glad I have entered in; There Jesus saved me and keeps me clean-- Glory to His name!
Come to this fountain so rich and sweet.
Cast thy poor soul at the Saviour"s feet.
Plunge in today, and be made complete-- Glory to His name!
DEPTH OF MERCY!
Depth of mercy! can there be Mercy still reserved for me?
Can my G.o.d His wrath forbear?
Me, the chief of sinners, spare?
I have long withstood His grace, Long provoked Him to His face; Would not hearken to His calls; Grieved Him by a thousand falls.
Now incline me to repent, Let me now my sins lament; Now my foul revolt deplore, Weep, believe, and sin no more.
I WAS A WAND"RING SHEEP.
I was a wand"ring sheep, I did not love the fold: I did not love my Shepherd"s voice, I would not be controlled.
I was a wayward child, I did not love my home; I did not love my Father"s voice; I loved afar to roam.
The Shepherd sought His sheep, The Father sought His child, They followed me o"er vale and hill, O"er deserts waste and wild; They found me nigh to death, Famished and faint, and lone; They bound me with the bands of love; They saved the wand"ring one.
Jesus my Shepherd is, "Twas He that loved my soul, "Twas He that washed me in His blood, "Twas He that made me whole; "Twas He that sought the lost, That found the wand"ring sheep, "Twas He that brought me to the fold, "Tis He that still doth keep.
I was a wand"ring sheep, I would not be controlled; But now I love the Shepherd"s voice, I love, I love the fold; I was a wayward child, I once preferred to roam: But now I love my Father"s voice I love, I love His home
WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS!
What a Friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry Ev"rything to G.o.d in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry Ey"rything to G.o.d in prayer.
Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged, Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful, Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our ev"ry weakness, Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Are we weak and heavy laden, c.u.mbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour, still our refuge,-- Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer, In His arms He"ll take and shield thee Thou wilt find a solace there.
O HAPPY DAY!
O happy day that fixed my choice On Thee, my Saviour and my G.o.d!
Well may this glowing heart rejoice, And tell its raptures all abroad.
CHORUS:
Happy day, happy day, When Jesus washed my sins away!
He taught me how to watch and pray, And live rejoicing every day; Happy day, happy day, When Jesus washed my sin away!
O happy bond that seals my vows To Him who merits all my love!
Let cheerful anthems fill His house, While to that sacred shrine I move.
"Tis done, the great transaction"s done; I am my Lord"s and He is mine; He drew me, and I followed on, Charmed to confess the voice divine.
