Chapter 430: Have Your Parents Never Taught You to Respect the Dead?
Gao Daiwei was the daughter of Director Gao and his late wife. His late wife pa.s.sed away while giving birth to her, so Gao Daiwei was sent to live with her grandpa and grandma after she was born.
When Gao Daiwei was eight months old, Director Gao remarried to a woman who was the daughter of the current Jincheng Development Bureau’s Director. They subsequently had two daughters, and so Gao Daiwei was forgotten by Director Gao.
Later, Director Gao got promoted to his current position as Haicheng’s Development Bureau Chief. After his parents pa.s.sed away one after the other, he had no choice but to send for the adolescent Gao Daiwei… who was only 16 years of age at the time, to live with him in Haicheng.
But having grown up in different environments from her two step-sisters, Gao Daiwei didn’t get along with them and suffered severe bullying. However, Director Gao was biased towards his two young daughters and chose to turn a blind eye to that.
Precisely because of what she had to go through, plus her similar circ.u.mstances with Lin Ran growing up, the duo instantly hit it off and became the best of friends who could talk about anything under the sun.
Gao Daiwei was certain Lin Ran was forced to leave for the UK due to the scheming Lin Nuan. It was Lin Nuan who stole Lin Ran’s parents, giving her no choice but to head to a foreign land all by herself.
Gao Daiwei had only one such good friend in Haicheng, a confidante who was so similar in temperament. Now that Lin Ran had left… in Haicheng, she no longer had a sister with whom she could confide in!
Regarding this matter, Gao Daiwei had cried on the phone with Lin Ran several times.
She knew very well that Lin Ran was a straightforward and simple girl, which all the more made her feel that Lin Nuan was a scheming b*tch. She hated Lin Nuan to the core…
Now that she had b.u.mped into Lin Nuan at the mall, based on Gao Daiwei’s character, she definitely had to avenge Lin Ran.
Lin Nuan didn’t wish to get entangled with Gao Daiwei, so she turned to leave, but she was pulled back by the wrist by Gao Daiwei.
Gao Daiwei had a provocative look on her face as she smiled and took the watch from the sales lady’s hands. She asked Lin Nuan, “You like this watch? It’s not cheap, you know… you’re but a lowly talk show host, are you sure you can afford it? Is your sugar daddy footing the bill, or are you making the Lins pay for it?”
“Is Miss Gao deliberately making things difficult for me?” Lin Nuan’s brows were closely knit.
Gao Daiwei looked at the watch in her hands and didn’t let go of Lin Nuan. She asked, “Or… you can’t afford it, and you get a kick out of just admiring it? Or perhaps, you’re gonna post it to your social circle and comment on how gorgeous the watch is and wait for Lin Ran’s mother to gift it to you?”
Gao Daiwei knew very well that Lin Nuan was a public figure, so she was deliberately blowing the matter up to disgrace her in public!
“Daiwei, forget it! Let’s go… Didn’t you want to sing karaoke because you were in a bad mood? Let’s just go! I’ve already booked a suite!”
The girl by Gao Daiwei’s side tried to ease the tension in the air.
“I’m asking you a question!” Gao Daiwei tugged at Lin Nuan’s elbow and demanded sternly, “You can’t afford it, so you’re waiting for Lin Ran’s mother to buy it for you. Right?”
With great force, Lin Nuan extracted her elbow from Gao Daiwei’s grip and said, “Is that what Miss Gao is accustomed to doing? Whenever you can’t afford something, you’ll just post it to your social circle and wait for someone to present it to you? To judge others by oneself will only expose oneself, has no one ever enlightened you on this principle?”
How could a grown person like Lin Nuan not have any temper at all?
The oppression in her heart was just calmed down after talking to Fu Huai’an, and now, Gao Daiwei was bringing all those emotions back up to the surface again.
Even a well-tempered person had a temper!
Not giving Gao Daiwei any chance to speak, Lin Nuan’s gaze swept over the large and small shopping bags in Gao Daiwei’s hands. “Surely the salary offered by the Development Bureau isn’t so high these days! The brands you bought aren’t cheap at all and would probably cost a year or two’s wages! Miss Gao sure doesn’t mind parting with her money! Or is it the backing of your sugar daddy or Director Gao that gives Miss Gao such an air of arrogance?”
Gao Daiwei turned pale from hearing Lin Nuan’s words. She raised her hand to slap Lin Nuan.
“Daiwei!” She reached out to grab hold of Gao Daiwei’s raised arm.
Gao Daiwei’s companion gasped in surprise. The slap ultimately didn’t land on Lin Nuan’s face. Gao Daiwei’s slender wrist was held in a death grip by Lin Nuan.
“Daiwei! Don’t cause a scene!” The companion held Gao Daiwei’s raised arm and urged her, saying, “Uncle Gao won’t be pleased!”
Gao Daiwei bit the inside of her cheeks and laughed coldly as she yanked her arm from Lin Nuan’s grip, saying, “Right! I have my father behind me, so I dare to be so arrogant! I’m unlike someone, who has a crazy mother! Her father couldn’t afford to raise her… so he shamelessly switched her with the precious daughter of a wealthy family, helping her steal the rich life that was rightfully someone else’s!”
Gao Daiwei’s words struck a painful chord in Lin Nuan’s heart, making her turn pale.
Seeing all color drain from Lin Nuan’s pet.i.te face, Gao Daiwei felt immensely pleased. She turned towards the sales lady and said, “How many of this watch do you have here?”
“This is a limited edition model. There are only two of these in the entirety of Haicheng, and they’re all here…” the sales lady replied honestly.
“Wrap up both for me! I have a wealthy and powerful, blood-related biological father! I can spend his money righteously!”
The sales lady saw Gao Daiwei hand over her credit card and immediately said yes respectfully.
Gao Daiwei squinted at Lin Nuan with a high-and-mighty att.i.tude and said, “My father is unlike some filthy and downright despicable trashy man! That kind of person… to die by ingesting poison was considered a cheap deal for him. If it were up to me, someone like him would be thrown off the top of the Lin Organization and end up as a messy pile of torn flesh and blood whereby you can’t even pick up the remnants of whatever bones remained, only then…”
Watching Gao Daiwei’s red lips move, Lin Nuan raised her hand and, mustering all her strength, swung it. Gao Daiwei shrieked.
Upon hearing the commotion, several people crowded around them. Some in the crowd recognized Lin Nuan and couldn’t help whipping out their phones to film the scene.
The sales lady took out the other watch, prepared to ask Gao Daiwei to look over and swipe her card if there was no problem, and then she could wrap up the two watches…
Gao Daiwei covered her flushed red face and stared at Lin Nuan in disbelief. Now that she witnessed Lin Nuan slap Gao Daiwei, the sales lady was afraid she might become collateral damage in this fight and didn’t dare make a sound behind the counter.
Gao Daiwei was stunned by this slap from Lin Nuan, and half her face was numb.
“Daiwei, are you okay?” her friend asked anxiously.
Lin Nuan was trembling from anger, and her clear voice had an imposing manner. “Miss Gao, you can scold someone, but to be so vicious in your words, aren’t you afraid of retribution? Have your parents never taught you to respect the dead?”
Watching as more and more people started to crowd around them, Gao Daiwei felt embarra.s.sed. She flung down everything she was holding and charged towards Lin Nuan…
A large pair of hands gripped Lin Nuan’s shoulders. She lightly fell backwards and felt a solid and warm wall behind her. A familiar scent enveloped Lin Nuan, giving her a sense of security.
Gao Daiwei was also held back by her companion. That well-manicured hand ultimately didn’t touch Lin Nuan’s face.
“Forget it, Daiwei! We can always settle accounts later! People are filming here. What’s going to happen if your dad and step-mom see this!” Gao Daiwei’s friend urged in a low voice.
