Chapter 991: Became Very Radical
“Although it’s cruel of me to do this… but if I don’t, you’ll never be able to harden your heart and start a new life!” Song Yao gritted her teeth and said to Su Huan, “Su Huan, give back the watch… and wallet to me!”
It was difficult to say that out loud, but it wasn’t as difficult as Song Yao had imagined.
Su Huan paused. The fingers holding his coffee mug moved a little.
“I beg you!”
Su Huan hated hearing Song Yao say the word “beg” the most. In his heart, he would willingly do anything Song Yao asked.
Su Huan, who had been silent until now, finally spoke. “When you broke up with me, I never felt that you were the one who let me down or that you were materialistic! I’m very sorry that what you wanted I was unable to give, and I’m also very sorry that I wasn’t powerful enough to protect you… from being bullied at filming! It was my fault!”
Song Yao clenched her teeth and shook her head, feeling so bad she couldn’t look into Su Huan’s eyes.
“I never wanted to start a new life. I’ve been keeping all these things because I hoped that, one day, when I became powerful enough, you could return to my side! Regardless of what your ident.i.ty or appearance was then, I would have accepted it!” Su Huan lowered his gaze and took off his wrist.w.a.tch, putting it on the coffee table. He pressed his fingers on it and pushed it to Song Yao. “But if you’re telling me that you’ve already met the man you love deeply, so long as you’re happy, I’m willing to let the past… be the past!”
Upon seeing the black digital watch, Song Yao’s tears fell on her lap. Her brows were furrowed, and she didn’t dare raise her head.
Su Huan also took out the wallet from his pocket. Despite maintaining his smile, the way his fingers were grazing the wallet betrayed his unwillingness to part with it.
It wasn’t some expensive wallet, and Su Huan had used it for several years, so the sides showed signs of abrasion now…
He took out his ID and bank cards from the wallet, his gaze fixed on it. In the photo of the two of them that Song Yao put in, they were still young, still tender-looking and insolent!
Finally, Su Huan closed the wallet without taking the photo out!
He handed the wallet with the photo to Song Yao, seemingly returning even the feelings between them to her, acting as if nothing had ever happened between them!
Song Yao sniffled and smiled at Su Huan. “If you get married, you must send me an invitation. I’ll attend with my husband and give you a big red packet!”
“If I get married one day, you’d better not come!” Su Huan smiled, his eyes slightly watery. “If I get married, that means I’ve forgotten about you. In that case, don’t… don’t let me recall you again.”
Song Yao nodded. “Okay!”
“I won’t accept the money you transferred to me. Those little baby items aren’t worth much money, take it as a present from me to your baby!”
Song Yao no longer had the courage to sit face-to-face with Su Huan, so she picked up the watch and wallet on the table and said to Su Huan, “Then… I’ll get going first!”
Su Huan said nothing, merely gazing at Song Yao. Although he said he was going to forget about her, he was trying to carve her looks in the depths of his heart right now.
He was afraid that just like Song Yao said, they wouldn’t have the chance to meet again in the future!
“Song Yao!”
The instant Song Yao turned around, Su Huan couldn’t hold himself back and called out to her.
She gripped the wallet and watch and turned around towards Su Huan.
Su Huan’s fists, which were clenched on his knees, slowly relaxed, and a smile appeared on his face as he said, “I hope you can live in bliss forever!”
Song Yao nodded. “I will! You too!”
Their farewell was peaceful. Su Huan sat in the cafe and watched as Song Yao left, feeling like a large part of his heart was vacant now.
Fingers grazing his cup gently, he told himself… he must learn to let go!
Since he already knew Song Yao was living in bliss, he ought to accept it!
Su Huan’s phone vibrated. He answered…
“President Su, the chairman has been hospitalized…” The voice on the other end was solemn. “His condition isn’t good, so do hurry back home!”
Su Huan paused. He got up to walk out and forced himself to stay calm. He asked, “When did this happen? What did the doctor say? My mom?”
“The chairman has been complaining of angina for some time. Last night, when he was having dinner with the chief secretary of the provincial office, he had some wine. On the way back, something wasn’t right! The doctor said it’s not looking good. Madam… when she heard this, she fainted!”
“I’m coming home right away!”
Su Huan’s heart was beating very fast.
After parting with Song Yao, Su Huan became very radical.
Eager to succeed, he over-exhausted himself and went into shock, thus being hospitalized. Su Huan’s father, who was on the brink of retirement, couldn’t bear to see his son work so hard. Because his advice to Su Huan went unheeded, he had no choice but to do it himself, helping Su Huan out wherever he could!
It wasn’t an easy feat to succeed with so many large corporations in the country as obstacles…
Su Huan didn’t have a good time!
Despite his having the brains and ideas, he had too many disadvantages in trying to advance with a problematic company!
The issue with the structure of the system, the issue of an old-fas.h.i.+oned style of management that was outdated!
And also the issue of nepotism within the company!
Those issues were far more challenging to solve than one could imagine. Add to that the need to build and maintain relations.h.i.+ps with government figures and expand their business to overseas markets. Su Huan had his hands full…
Su Huan’s father wanted him to focus on the expansion of their business overseas, so he took on more and more responsibilities!
Su Huan’s father was in poor health to begin with. Furthermore, he was advanced in age, thus the inability to keep up physically and in other aspects. At his age, he ought to be retired, but still, he continued working hard!
Towards his father… Su Huan felt endless guilt!
After hanging up, Su Huan called his a.s.sistant and made him book the earliest flight home.
Entering the parking lot, when Su Huan got into his car, he subconsciously lifted his sleeve to look at his watch, but what he saw was an empty wrist, only left with the mark left by wearing a watch for a prolonged period.
Su Huan was in a daze momentarily, unable to conceal the sadness in his eyes as he drove away.
…
Song Yao stood next to a trashcan in the mall, holding the watch, whose surface was already scratched, and the shabby-looking wallet—a mix of emotions within.
These were things Su Huan treasured. She knew she shouldn’t keep them.
After taking one last deep look, Song Yao tossed the watch into the trash, unable to control her sadness.
She opened the wallet… and found he hadn’t taken out the cash inside! Plus… the photo they took together back in their school days.
A smiley Su Huan was carrying Song Yao on his back, and she was making a V-shape with her fingers. One had a gentle and doting smile on his face, whereas the other looked brazen and insolent. One look and others could tell that the latter was a girl who was overly doted on.
Bai Xiaonian had just bought a camera back then and was taking photos at school. The cheeky Song Yao was standing on the flower terrace and making a gesture at Bai Xiaonian before jumping onto Su Huan’s back, catching him off guard. She shouted for Bai Xiaonian to quickly take a photo of them. At that time, their laughter was pure and merry…
Song Yao closed the wallet and wiped her tears with the back of her hand.
