Chapter 136: Out of Mansion
Within a short period of time Madame Gu started to imagine how the Gu Mansion would have to receive numerous guests as they used to, and how Gu Zhenkang would get promoted very soon. She even thought about Princess Gu who had no progress during the past few years – maybe she was going to have a breakthrough point too.
At that time, the Gu Mansion would not be far from the Top Mansion of the capital city.
Madame Gu looked radiant, waiting patiently for Lord Huai to take the next step, but Lord Huai did not spare a look at Madame Gu.
Madame Gu’s heart sank, as she noticed that something wasn’t right. So she turned to Gu Chaoyan, suggesting with the look that Gu Chaoyan should invite the man in.
Gu Chaoyan got what Madame Gu meant, but she did not intend to follow Madame Gu’s intention. Zhou Huaijin was here to help her, not to help the Gu Mansion. She was not going to allow the Gu Mansion to make use of Zhou Huaijin to get some benefits and interests.
So she was not going to ask him in. Instead, she said to him with a kind tone, “Lord Huai, aren’t you very busy with business? Chaoyan is now at home safe and sound, you can leave now, if you want to.”
Zhou Huaijin nodded with a smile hearing what Gu Chaoyan said. Then he left, ignoring the rest of the Gu Family during the process.
Gu Zhenkang flushed, not out of excitement, but out of anxiety. He was prepared with lots of words to speak with Lord Huai, who had totally ignored them!
He even threw an angry look at Gu Chaoyan too.
This eldest daughter of his was so dumb. She was not even introducing Lord Huai to him!
Gu Zhenkang complained with a small voice, but Madame Gu threw a sharp look at Gu Zhenkang, who pursed his lips and fell into silence.
Even though Madame Gu was displeased at Gu Chaoyan for not inviting Lord Huai in, she was not going to cause her any trouble. What she was thinking was that Chaoyan was too young to understand the whole society and that it was okay if she made a mistake now. She was a girl to be trained, and more opportunities were coming in the future.
So at this point, she should not irritate Chaoyan.
As they came to the hall of the front yard, Madame Gu asked the servants to pour the tea for Gu Chaoyan.
As she accepted the tea, Madame Gu could not wait to ask. “Chaoyan, what is going on? Why did Lord Huai take you to the mansion for treatment? What is the matter that he needs of you? Who is sick? Is it a serious disease?”
“...”
“Lord Huai seems to like you a great deal, you have to seize the chance!”
“...”
“Will Lord Huai come to you in the future?”
Madame Gu tossed tons of questions to her. And she looked very enthusiastic.
Gu Chaoyan, on the other hand, felt coldness across her heart. What Madame Gu was concerned about had nothing to do with her – she never asked if she was doing well, and if she was suffering in the cell.
She let out a cold sneer inwardly and said with composure, “I told you before that I am not allowed to say much about Lord Huai’s errands. We will get into a lot of trouble if Lord Huai gets displeased.” As she was speaking, Gu Chaoyan turned to Sword One, suggesting that she was Lord Huai’s guard who could do all kinds of reports to Lord Huai’s Mansion.
Madame Gu let out a dry laugh and dare not ask anything more. She mumbled, “Lord Huai is treating you well, I am just asking you a little bit of the story.”
Gu Chaoyan nodded and got up. “I need to take a break now. I am going out of the mansion tomorrow.”
“Out of the mansion? Why?” Madame Gu asked with confusion.
