Chapter 243: The Curator’s Aura
At blood contract fifth realm, he could borrow more energy from his pet beast. It was definitely better than nothing.
At least by borrowing firepower, Lin Jin could resist this insane blizzard.
In an instant, heat began to flow in Lin Jin’s body, dispersing the cold. This blizzard was incredible. To think it could freeze a man to the bone with just one wave. Both White Ape and Xiao Huo could still withstand it but Lin Jin almost couldn’t survive just now. If his cultivation level hadn’t increased and gave him more firepower, Lin Jin might have been frozen to death.
The yard was now covered entirely in snow as if this was some icy wasteland.
Coiled wire needle!
The moment Lin Jin regained some strength, he counterattacked.
In such a situation, it was either he died or the old dragon died. Lin Jin had no thought to spare. He had to grasp every single chance he could get.
The old dragon was of a wind and water attribute. A blend of wind and water would form ice, especially used to subdue fire. However, Xiao Huo was also the opponent’s natural enemy. Having sensed Lin Jin’s intention, Xiao Huo let out a savage roar as the flames emerged on his body again. Even in this blizzard, the fire managed to stay lit, attracting the old dragon’s attention.
It was with this that Lin Jin could perform the coiled wire needle in a sneak attack.
This was the only winning method Lin Jin could think of.
If Lin Jin’s coiled wire needle could penetrate into the old dragon’s body, it could mess up the creature’s veins. Or better, if it could puncture the dragon’s heart, victory was theirs.
Lin Jin’s ultimate attack was to pierce the coiled wire needle in.
The old dragon had now forsaken his human form, reverting partially back to his original form as he engaged in a vicious battle with Xiao Huo and White Ape. Securing an opportunity, Lin Jin fired his coiled wire needle, piercing the acupoint in the old dragon’s armpit.
The old dragon was quick to react. When the needle pierced his body, he began mobilizing his internal energy to force the needle out. Lin Jin channeled greater spirit energy until they were forced into a stalemate.
Lin Jin was putting his life on the line as he continued to transfer more spirit energy, competing with the old dragon in spirit energy volume. Aware that this needle was powerful, the old dragon gave his all to resist, restricting the needle from entering his body.
By now, a huge part of the needle had entered the old dragon’s acupoint, leaving only a tiny bit left. They were still at it and in between, the old dragon shot several ice breaths at Lin Jin. The intensity of his shots this time was much greater. Getting hit briefly would freeze up the victim’s veins and flesh so no one could afford to take so much as a graze of these attacks.
Xiao Huo fired a flaming breath in return, helping Lin Jin to block that chilling wind.
Even still, Lin Jin was practically frozen all over and seriously uncomfortable.
It was the first time Lin Jin felt performing this attack to be so tormenting. But this also meant that he had secured the opponent’s weakness.
This coiled wire needle must be a great threat to the old dragon. Otherwise, the latter wouldn’t be this anxious when attacking Lin Jin. Hence, the more he behaved this way, the more Lin Jin had to continue pus.h.i.+ng forward.
Time gradually slipped away. Lin Jin’s spirit energy was completely exhausted and he was just holding on right now. The old dragon kept howling in anger as the needle was almost fully inside his body. The murderous intent and blazing heat of the tiny needle made him feel threatened.
Large sweat drops rolled down only to turn into ice crystals halfway through. Lin Jin had lost feeling in both his legs and was dangerously close to collapsing.
Looks like he was about to lose this battle with the old dragon.
The hopelessness grew stronger as Lin Jin imagined how once the needle was forced out, they would have lost all chances to turn the tables. If they lost, they would all be ma.s.sacred by the old dragon.
However, at that moment, Lin Jin suddenly heard a chime in the Museum of Deadly Beasts.
‘The Visitation Hall is open!’
Being busy, engaged in this intense battle, Lin Jin completely forgot about this matter. Now that the Visitation Hall was open, he could enter it anytime at will.
He would be saved.
However, that would leave Xiao Huo and White Ape in peril. This spell barrier cast by the old man had sealed off the area so Xiao Huo and White Ape couldn’t possibly escape.
At this, Lin Jin’s heart wrenched.
‘Let’s see if I can take Xiao Huo and White Ape with me.’
His only option now was to try. Even in a weakened state, the old dragon was too powerful and practically invincible. Lin Jin formed a mental link with the Visitation Hall, hoping to tear open a larger portal for Xiao Huo and White Ape to enter.
However, this was mostly just Lin Jin’s wishful thinking. Despite using full force, his mind only managed to open a very tiny slit.
Yet, in the instant Lin Jin tore open this tiny crack, a powerful aura overflowed.
The old dragon was visibly startled.
The word ‘fear’ was clearly written in his eyes. Almost at once, he transformed back into dragon form and took flight, wasting no time in trying to escape.
Gauging the right moment, Lin Jin invoked a spell, controlling his coiled wire needle to mess up a part of the dragon’s veins. However, as the distance grew wider, he soon lost control of that coiled wire needle.
Lin Jin shook his head. Although he had no idea why the old dragon fled as if he had seen a ghost, even risking himself getting hurt, it was best that he left.
Lin Jin was currently frozen stiff, unable to move. He could only let himself slowly regain strength. White Ape suffered quite a few dragon slashes and was badly injured. But it was also thanks to him holding on that Xiao Huo managed to get a few attacks in. Or else, with only Xiao Huo alone, they wouldn’t have made it this far.
The surrounding scenery began to change. Being a keen sport, Xiao Huo darted away and returned almost immediately with a tiny yellow flag in his mouth.
As if an astrolabe was embroidered on the flag, there were more than ten circles on it, some woven by golden thread, others by silver, each emitting a different intensity of light.
This was clearly an artifact crafted by an expert. It was also odd as an aura around them speedily gathered onto this tiny flag, illuminating the points. Glancing around, Lin Jin figured that the barrier the old dragon used to restrict them was probably cast from this tiny flag.
However, that old dragon had left in a battered state without even retrieving this flag that could set up barriers. Lin Jin obtained a treasure instead.
The barrier disappeared and Lin Jin studied his surroundings. Other than his yard being destroyed, everywhere around remained untouched. Admittedly, this barrier was quite incredible. After activation, not only could it seal off an area and conceal the aura within, allowing no detection on the outside world, but those trapped inside wouldn’t be able to escape as well.
As for what had frightened the old dragon, after brief contemplation, Lin Jin had a guess.
It was most probably the aura from the curator’s mask in the Visitation Hall.
When he used his mind to tear open a portal, the aura that leaked out came from the curator’s mask. As a highly cultivated monster, that dragon possessed sharper senses compared to others of his kind. He escaped frantically because he felt the curator’s mask’s terrifying aura.
However, a situation like this had never happened before. The curator’s aura had never had an effect on the outside world.
The only plausible reason here might be the barrier. Perhaps the barrier had sealed off the outside world, thus allowing the curator’s aura to leak through.
This gave Lin Jin an idea.
If he ever created a barrier, could he pull out the curator’s mask and wear it here?
