Chapter 553: Lin Jin’s Abilities
Lin Jin felt it was time for him to take action.
“Go!” With a toss of his hand, the immortal binding rope flew out at a speed comparable to Shang’er’s Phantom Blade. In a flash, the rope wound itself tightly around the zombie, who fought so hard to free itself that the rope started to creak. Even so, the immortal binding rope was as reliable as always. They successfully managed to restrict the zombie.
“Shang’er, cut it now!” Lin Jin shouted.
Right now, both he and Shu Xiaolou didn’t have any attacks powerful enough to defeat their foe. Only Shang’er Phantom Blade could deal the greatest damage here.
Shang’er did not need Lin Jin’s reminder, for she had already noticed the opportunity that laid before her. Her Phantom Blade sped up, slas.h.i.+ng at the zombie’s head with the force of a thousand men. The zombie wanted to dodge and parry the attack, but it was sadly immobilized by the immortal binding rope.
Then, an ear-splitting noise filled their ears.
The Phantom Blade hacked about one-third into the zombie’s neck.
Seeing this, Lin Jin knew its neck must be its weakness. Although they didn’t slice its head off in one hack, it was an effective attack.
“Chop it a few more times,” Lin Jin called.
Shang’er switched to another hand sign and the Phantom Blade flew out from the zombie. It circled the air before closing in to hack away at the zombie’s neck again. This time, the sword managed to lodge itself halfway through its neck.
“Come on, snap already!” Gritting her teeth, Shang’er summoned forth all her monster energy. As if an invisible hand was supporting the blade, more power was poured into the slash.
Following a crack, the zombie’s neck snapped and fell to the ground, where it bounced around.
They did it!
Shang’er’s Phantom Blade was indeed scary.
Lin Jin chuckled out loud, evidently pleased. Yet, Shu Xiaolou remained indifferent as she said, “Zombies, be they humans or beasts, are indestructible. Severing its head can only diminish its spirit but that is far from enough to destroy it.”
As if to prove Shu Xiaolou right, the zombie’s body did not collapse after having its head hacked off. Instead, it continued struggling violently. Heavy death aura began overflowing from its open wound, and the aura had begun corroding its surroundings, greatly influencing Shu Xiaolou’s painting realm.
Like a stain, the death aura would slowly permeate through the painting and cause irreparable damage to it.
However, Shu Xiaolou had no other options left.
The severed head cackled as it oozed black energy from the base. Then, the black energy lifted the head to bring it back to its body.
They clearly couldn’t let it succeed.
Shang’er controlled the Phantom Blade immediately to stop it. However, no matter how many times Shang’er sliced the head into bits and pieces, the head would piece itself back together inside the ball of black energy.
Just as Shu Xiaolou described, zombies were indestructible.
Lin Jin felt the urge to burn it with fire but this was a painting realm.
The next instant, a brilliant idea came to mind.
This zombie was too powerful that only Shu Xiaolou could subdue it inside her painting realm. However, if Lin Jin could take only its head outside, he shouldn’t have a problem burning it.
Flames could purify everything after all.
What’s more, Lin Jin’s flames were almost on par with a legendary immortal’s ‘true fire’.
He quickly told Shu Xiaolou the plan and she nodded in agreement. Shu Xiaolou made a grabbing gesture and that zombie head that was flying back to its body got sucked into a crack in s.p.a.ce, disappearing altogether.
Then, she swept her sleeve and Lin Jin was sent out of the painting realm as well.
Shu Xiaolou’s Cosmic Ink was way too efficient. Lin Jin merely saw a flash before he found himself in a deserted wilderness, somewhere quite far away from Heavenly Spiral City.
The zombie head appeared out of thin air at a nearby spot.
They were no longer in the painting realm so Lin Jin could perform his fire attacks, no holds barred.
The zombie head was barely intelligent. After being moved outside and unable to find its body, it roared in a horrifying voice, “Where is my body? Where is my body?!”
Its voice was m.u.f.fled and barely intelligible; it sounded closer to a wild beast than a human being.
As it shouted, it pounced at Lin Jin. The head was surrounded by a dense black aura that caused the trees and gra.s.s to wilt away. Even things that weren’t alive, like rocks and soil appeared to have aged considerably, becoming tainted and mottled as it made contact with the aura.
Lin Jin mused, ‘These zombies sure are demonic. Even if it’s just a head, it’s quite agile. I might not be able to get it with just spells alone.’
“Xiao Huo!”
Lin Jin quickly switched to another strategy, unleas.h.i.+ng Xiao Huo to deal with it.
Xiao Huo had a Dharma body, making him a spirit of flames. That was why he probably did not fear death aura from a zombie. Lin Jin would let Xiao Huo battle it to see how things would turn out.
In an instant, a ball of flames shot out, taking on Xiao Huo’s appearance. Xiao Huo didn’t transform into a giant wolf but maintained his usual size, charging at the zombie head to bite at it. As his body was encased in flames, before he even reached his opponent, the zombie was already greeted by the scorching heat.
As Lin Jin antic.i.p.ated, the zombie feared fire.
It opened its mouth to shoot out a bundle of black blood in an attempt to put out the fire on Xiao Huo’s body.
This black blood was sticky and putrid. Any person who was unlucky enough to touch the fluid would be in a terrible state.
It was so lethal that even Xiao Huo tried to dodge it. It waited patiently for the zombie’s head to finish spitting out every bit of blood it had left. Then, he pounced forward without warning and bit the face of the zombie head.
His scorching sharp fangs were like burning nails that could shatter rocks in an instant. However, the zombie head was much tougher so Xiao Huo’s teeth only managed to break a bit of its grayish skin. But that wasn’t all to Xiao Huo’s attack.
Rumble!
Xiao Huo spat out a jet of flames.
This blaze contained three types of flames. The sparks alone were enough to incinerate the ground within a hundred-meter radius of Xiao Huo.
Lin Jin stood beyond the edge of destruction to watch the show unfold.
This was one of the perks of having a pet beast. When faced with a really tough opponent, a pet beast would come in handy. There was no need for Lin Jin to engage the enemy personally, thus keeping himself safe.
Just then, black energy exploded before his eyes but was that was soon subdued by even fiercer flames until the ominous aura disappeared without a trace.
“It’s over?”
Lin Jin could vaguely see the outcome of this match.
Xiao Huo was no longer who he used to be. He was now a highly accomplished beast among Rank 5 pet beasts. As per the law of nature, fire could restrain the death aura of zombies and Xiao Huo wasn’t dealing with the whole body but only one head. Hence, Lin Jin did not expect any hiccups in this battle.
It may be a little exhausting, but the outcome wouldn’t change.
Success was the outcome.
Lin Jin stepped into the fiery field. Thick smoke was everywhere and the ground was scorched black. The battle had barely ended, as evidenced by the glowing embers of burnt soil.
The ground beneath Xiao Huo’s paws was scorched black, so it crunched like gla.s.s shards as Lin Jin approached his pet beast.
Meanwhile, Xiao Huo chomped down on the remaining skull, shattering it to bits before gobbling them all up.
He ate it.
Before Xiao Huo swallowed the head, Lin Jin noticed that it was merely a skull left. It wasn’t even complete after being burned by the flames. Now that Xiao Huo had crushed it with his jaws and swallowed it into his belly, the so-called indestructible creature was now wiped off the face of the earth.
