Rebecca stood frozen in her place. The girl"s words rang in her mind.Dead child…
What?
What…?
She watched dazed, as Miya made her way towards the door.
Rebecca"s own reaction was instant. She subconsciously held her junior sister by the arm, just as Miya was about to leave. Then dragging her back forcefully, almost making her stumble, Rebecca turned Miya around so that she was grabbing her by the forearm. She twisted the smaller girl"s hand slightly.
Miya winced in pain.
"This isn"t over," Rebecca told the girl harshly then, "Tell me exactly what you mean by those words."
Miya"s own eyes went cold.
She stared at Becky in challenge, her face vacant as she matched Rebecca"s eyes. Then in a voice that spoke of a dreadful calm, she whispered, "Let me go."
Rebecca"s tone too, was fierce.
"No. You have to tell me what"s going on first."
"Why?"
"Because you"re not alone in this anymore. Everyone else is also involved."
"Let me go, Rebecca." Miya"s eyes went dark, black like a sinister night.
Somehow, her name on Miya"s lips sent a cold chill down Rebecca"s spine. Her hold on Miya"s arm wavered, and for a second, she was afraid. It had been too long since she had got out of street fighting, in fact, intimidation wasn"t even her strongest skill.
Meanwhile Miya"s eyes were enough to make her afraid. They were cold, impa.s.sive, uncaring… murderous even.
There was anger in her look, one intense enough to unnerve Rebecca like never before. She still gathered her guts.
"Miya, whose child is Ben?"
Miya grimaced. Her gaze turned filthy as the rage in her boiled up to her throat. She could barely control her hands.
"He is MY son."
Rebecca took a deep breath in. She had to find this out.
"Miya," she exhaled, trying again, "You just said you gave birth to a dead child. Whose baggage is Ben?"
That exactly made the girl snap.
Without a moment of thought, Miya lifted her free arm and clutched at Rebecca"s collar. Then with tremendous force that was too much for her stature, she staggered but pulled Rebecca down, almost so that they were face to face. Miya had the urge to grab her throat.
"What the f*** did I just say?" she hissed to the woman.
Rebecca"s eyes went wide with shock, and she stood awkwardly before the smaller girl, unusually afraid. Something was amiss on Miya"s face, almost as if she had lost her mind. Rebecca swallowed, making one final attempt.
"I –"
"What did I tell you, huh? BEN IS MY SON!" Miya thundered, now outraged.
Her outburst made Rebecca flinch, shocking her momentarily as Miya"s expression went all the way from sinister to pure evil. Her eyes were berserk, and she looked ready to kill. She would have hurt something too – either Rebecca, or herself, but Becky was quick to react. Slowly, fearfully, she let Miya"s arm go.
Then in hesitation, she reached out for her face.
"Miya?"
Miya"s heart stopped. Her mouth fell open. Seconds pa.s.sed.
The clock ticked again.
The girl came back to her senses, her eyes fixed on Becky"s. The anger was slowly replaced by mute horror.
In a second, Miya backed off. She let go of Becky"s shirt, and stepped back, shivering wildly. Her eyes went wide with terror.
No.
NO!
What was she doing?
Her heart thumped, then beat in her mouth. Miya"s legs went weak, and she would have collapsed. Only, she couldn"t. Hastily, she turned around.
Then muttering one small, inaudible, "Sorry", she ran out of the door.
Rebecca remained fixed to the spot, unable to even call out her name, dismayed.
Miya… what the h.e.l.l had happened?
Once Miya stepped out of the other room, she was ready to fly out of the mansion or even out of the Hunter estate. Her heart was crashing madly against her chest, and beads of sweat covered her forehead. Her head pounded, her breathing hard.
What was she doing?
What had she done?
A familiar sensation crawled up her throat, making her want to choke. Miya dashed out of the room, and into the meeting hall. She thought she was about to faint, when something caught her gaze. Her legs stopped moving involuntarily. Hesitantly, she looked to the side.
Two huge figures stood next to each other, both leaning against the window frame.
The Chairman held a burnt out cigarette in his hand as he stared listlessly towards the door that she had rushed out of. Beside him, looking equally bored, stood Jimmy Hunter.
Miya"s heart stilled.
What she did next was simply a reaction.
Jimmy, who had come in to the meeting hall only minutes before, had found out that Miya had taken Rebecca into the other room for a private chat. He had simply decided to wait for the wife then. So, when he heard the door to the other hall open with a loud crack, he was immediately on alert.
His own expression dropped when he looked at Miya"s face.
The girl came running out of the door, her expression lost and weary. When she stopped awkwardly and turned around in his direction, and Jimmy matched her eyes, he saw a strange helplessness in them, one that nudged at his heart. His face turned grim, and he took a step towards her.
Only, before he could move, Miya came rushing into his arms.
The simple act took Jimmy by surprise, especially when Miya just dashed towards him and wrapped her arms around his neck. Jim was startled, but he caught her by her waist, in order for her not to stumble as the girl stood up on her tiptoes. Miya"s hold on him became tighter.
Jim"s heart dropped to the pit of his stomach.
She was shivering hysterically.
Jim slowly patted her head with one hand, his hand moving through her hair subconsciously. "Miya?" he called out in a soft voice.
His call only made her tremble more wildly, and Jim panicked. Beside him, the Chairman was surprised too, but he excused himself and walked to the other room where Ms. Storm still was.
Jim embraced Miya tightly, worried when she didn"t speak a single word. He called out her name once more, when he felt something on his shoulders.
Hot… and wet.
She was crying!
Jimmy almost froze from the realization, as he heard the soft sound of her sobs close to his ears, and drops of tears fell on his shoulders. His stomach twisted and his heart burned, his voice sick with worry when he asked again, "Miya, darling. What"s wrong?"
Miya buried her head into the crook of his neck, then shook her head, as if to say "Nothing".
Jimmy attempted to pull her down. But when she didn"t let go of him, he tried to tell her calmly, "Miya, look at me."
Miya shook her head again.
"Miya… dear, I"m here, alright? Just look at me."
It was then that he heard her faint whimper, a frail "No" that she cried out.
Jim"s head pounded. His heart hurt.
"Miya… if you don"t tell me, how will I know what"s wrong? Why are you crying, my dear?"
Miya shook her head again, still buried in the nook of his neck. This time though, her reaction was tougher, and she shot a feeble, indignant, "I"m not crying" at him.
Jimmy kept caressing her hair.
"Okay. How am I supposed to help you, then?"
Miya trembled again, still sobbing. Minutes went by, and when neither of them spoke, and Jimmy just let her go all out, she hiccupped and muttered, "Please don"t joke. I hate c.o.c.kroaches."
That made the young master"s brows twitch, and he felt the missus slowly pull back from his neck. He would have smiled at her, but before he could get along with the pace of events, Miya"s lips met his. Jim was startled for a second, before her kiss grew intense.
Jim wrapped both his arms around her by instinct, as Miya poked at his tongue with hers and entered his mouth. The sensation disconcerted Jimmy, making him pull her up against him roughly. His response was rather slow when he kissed her back, but after a moment, he enjoyed her lead, disoriented but pleasantly surprised. Miya took her time exploring his mouth. When she was done, she nipped at his lips and kissed him again.
Jim"s heart beat rapidly in his chest. His mind was spiralling, and his body was out of control. He was certain something would explode if she didn"t stop kissing him now.
When Miya was done, she didn"t even look into his eyes. She just quickly buried her face back into his neck and shook her head again – her gesture to not look at him at all.
Her heart was beating too fast, after all. Jim could feel the rise and fall of her chest against his. Very slowly, his own lips spread into a brilliant smile. His face was flushed, he was blushing furiously like the missus was, but somehow, his heart was too happy to care about anything at all.
d.a.m.n it.
When had his girl learnt to kiss like that?
It was too intense. But… he liked it.
