Chapter 4067: Big Trap (7)
“What the h.e.l.l is corn paste?” Su Yu was confused.
He couldn’t be blamed, he had never heard of such a thing.
Huo Mian knew more. She rushed closer and said in a friendly tone, “Okay, thank you, kiddo.”
The little girl glanced at them and went to the kitchen.
It was called a kitchen, but it was bare. It was a shed attached to the house with cold winds blowing.
The entire house was dark, and it felt like it was choking them.
Su Yu had only seen such places on TV, on programs about teaching in rural China.
It was hard to imagine that people could live in such poverty with society so developed.
On the wooden bed inside the house, other than a clutter of things, there was an old grandma.
She had a blanket on her legs, but she was s.h.i.+vering from the cold.
“This family is really poor,” Huo Siqian commented.
“Be quiet.” Huo Mian felt bad.
“It’s true… Su Yu, the money you spend at a club in one evening is enough to feed the village for years.” Huo Siqian’s words were mocking.
“Look at who’s talking. The jewelry you gift to models you’re sleeping with is enough to support these people for their entire lives.” Su Yu didn’t back down.
“Okay, don’t argue. Does anyone have a phone?”
Huo Mian suddenly thought of something important.
“I obviously don’t have one.” Su Yu opened his hands, looking helpless.
“I don’t have one either. Leila wouldn’t let me have my own communication device. If I didn’t pretend to be Jack for so long, I would’ve died.”
“Would the village have one? I have to call my husband and tell him I’m safe.”
“Do you think this c.r.a.phole would have one?” Huo Siqian snickered.
“What do I do… I’m worried about him.”
“Mian, we should worry about ourselves. I think Leila has been looking for you this whole time…”
Huo Siqian didn’t know what Leila’s final goal was.
However, he knew that it must be related to Huo Mian, since Leila looked exactly identical to her.
The three talked while the little girl made the corn paste.
The old woman seemed aloof and hid inside the house. Her vision also seemed to be bad.
The three conversed while the girl tried to pick up a small wooden table.
Su Yu rose and helped the girl.
“Little girl, what’s your name?”
“Ling.” The girl’s voice was pretty.
“The same name as Lingling,” hearing that it was like Zhu Lingling’s name made Huo Mian chuckle.
The girl brought three small bowls with runny corn paste inside.
Corn paste was similar to corn congee, but with salt and green onions added for taste.
It was an obscure dish that only poor villages made.
To be truthful, it wasn’t delicious. However, the family seemed to be poor and there was nothing they could do.
“Here you go, thank you for the food.”
Su Yu didn’t eat his words and took off the Patek Philippe on his wrist.
It was over a million dollars when he bought it, because it was a limited edition.
So, even if she went to a p.a.w.n shop, they would at least give her two hundred thousand dollars. That was enough to buy a house in the town nearby.
“No, take it back. I don’t want it.”
The girl shrieked back in fear.
