3738 So Many Shameless People These Days 8
“Leave us, please.”
Huo Mian didn’t answer; instead, she turned her head and asked the two nurses to leave the room.
After the door was closed, she sat down before Han Yueyao, took out an apple from the fruit basket delivered by Mrs. Su, and began peeling it deftly.
“Do you like apples?”
“Sister Mian, how can I have the appet.i.te for apples at this moment… Please tell me, or I’ll go mad.”
Han Yueyao almost pounded her own chest in anxiety.
“If Su Yu died, what would you do; if he didn’t die, what would you do?”
“I…”
“Maybe you haven’t considered the questions yet.”
“Sister Mian, I don’t think Su Yu will die…”
“See? You’ve got the answer but still kept asking me.”
“But you are a doctor; you should know his condition.”
“I’m a doctor but I didn’t enter the OR… When I came, Su Yu was in the OR and has been there for almost 20 minutes now.”
“How… is he?”
“To be honest, I don’t know,” Huo Mian said calmly.
“Sister Mian, if something happened to Su Yu, you’d be very sad, right?”
“Of course. He’s a very important family member to me.”
Huo Mian said calmly as she peeled the apple with her head lowered.
“I hope he’ll be fine. I’d do anything to pay him back; I’d work as his maid for the rest of my life…”
Han Yueyao burst into tears again as she said it.
She was still young and had gone through very few ups and downs in life, so she couldn’t control her feelings in a crisis no matter how well she handled things in normal situations.
“You sound as if you owe him…” Huo Mian smiled and handed a small piece of peeled apple to Han Yueyao.
“Sister Mian… When the truck crashed toward us, I would have died if he hadn’t acted fast and sped up and dodged the truck; when we crashed into the big tree, I would have died if he hadn’t turned the steering wheel at the last moment… I…”
Han Yueyao paused and didn’t know how to continue.
As smart as Huo Mian, she naturally understood what had happened.
To put it simply, Su Yu had saved Han Yueyao at the critical moment.
Usually, it was the driver’s instinct to protect himself/herself.
When Huo Mian and Zhixin were young, their mother always instructed them to sit behind the driver when they took a bus because the driver would always try to protect himself in a crash. So, the people sitting behind him would receive less injuries.
It seemed that Su Yu had protected Han Yueyao by risking his own life at the critical moment.
But Huo Mian wasn’t a bit surprised because Su Yu had always been a manly guy.
If Su Yu had chosen to protect himself and Han Yueyao died because of it, he’d blame himself for the rest of his life.
“What Su Yu did is… normal. Yaoyao, no offense but you can’t take it personally… No matter who was in the car, An, Qin Ning, Wei Liao, I, Pudding, or Little Bean, Su Yu would have done the same… In short, anyone who can sit in the pa.s.senger seat of his car while he drives is someone he cares about, so he would never sacrifice them to save himself. So, you don’t have to feel guilty.”
Huo Mian said it to soothe Han Yueyao, but it was true.
Sure enough, Han Yueyao felt better.
“Sister Mian, everyone says your medical skills are excellent.”
“So?” Huo Mian raised her eyebrows.
She knew Han Yueyao had something to say.
