After the phone call, the rest of the day pa.s.sed quickly. Daisy took a nap while Millie was taking care of Shawn, and vice versa. There was a tacit agreement between the three girls that Nora wouldn"t be the baby-sitter. She never handled any baby before and Daisy didn"t trust her enought for it.And her difference with normal humans didn"t arrange things.
But she wasn"t that bothered by it, actually. At least, the dirty diappers and the cries weren"t for her. She did a little "Hi baby who"s drooling" and she sat down on the chair calmly. She was perfectly content with her status in the group.
And since there was that Jamie and cie coming to rescue them, she didn"t even need to go out to look for healthier food.
They said they had some, after all.
She just needed to relax and wait.
Strangely, she didn"t sleep. She was still full of energy, but she didn"t want to get anxious over it. Maybe it was because she just woke up from a coma.
Well, she doubted it but it was a good reason for now.
After a few hours, her good mood was greatly reduced. The baby"s cries and the two half-asleep women weren"t in the ideal conditions to start a discussion. There wasn"t any TV, and there was only Millie"s school books for her to read. And some magazines about babies, of course.
She decided to flip through one before she gave up.
Then her gaze fell on Millie"s phone. She had her charger in her bag, so the battery wasn"t a problem.
Nora took it and searched on the net if there were news on those zombies. But there wasn"t. All that was mentioned was the military evacuated the civils in the city because of a strange desease and the area was put in quarantine. She looked at some photos, and saw they blocked in every possible way any access to the city. She understood that people weren"t well informed, but the government was already aware of the danger. She wondered if they planned the issue beforehand or just had good reflexes on how to deal with this matter. But what was really strange was she couldn"t figure out how those four cops came in the city. Nor how they would go out.
And before she knew it, it was already morning.
The soft light through the window awoke Millie, who rose with a yawn. With difficulty, she opened her eyes and looked around herself, before she noticed her sister.
"Hi !"
"Hi. Had a good sleep ?"
"Yeah, kind of. I"m getting used to it. And you ?"
"I didn"t sleep yet."
Millie stared at her, wondering if it was her new abnormality in action. Nora seemed to understand her sister"s doubts and shrugged her shoulders. Diverting the conversation, she gave the teenager some candies. With her breakfast in hand, Millie didn"t persist and started to fill her stomach. Daisy woke up a few minutes later, and soon, the three women were eating peacefully.
After this meal, Daisy went in the bathroom to take a shower. Millie sat down next to little Shawn and after she checked on him, she decided to tell her sister the idea she just had.
"Nora, you said the zombies didn"t give a d.a.m.n about you, right ?"
Nora was drinking so she didn"t directly answer but slightly nodded.
"So, I thought about it and, you know, I had this flash and maybe you could go out and kill them ?"
Her older sister wasn"t expecting this and she spat all the water she was about to swallow. She looked at her sister, shocked."I"m not imagining things, she"s throwing me out ! She wants me to get eaten by those monsters ! Does she still remember I"m her sister ?!"
"You traitor !"
"It"s not like that, I mean, let me explain."
"I hope it"s a good explanation."
"Well, it"s like this. If the zombies let you go through them without even noticing you, I think you could go right there and kill them. They don"t care about you, so even if you destroy all of them, maybe they won"t react."
"Or maybe they will finally perceive me and eat me."
"But it could..."
"Would you give it a try if it was you ?"
"I... don"t know ?"
Nora sighed, helpless. The idea in itself wasn"t bad, but if it went wrong, she could just say goodbye to the world. They were disgusting and scary. What she saw before coming in this room was enough. She threw up many times in just one day, and she didn"t want it to continue.
So no, it wasn"t a good idea.
But Millie didn"t give up.
"But the guys will come soon and they"ll face those zombies. What if it works ? You could help them rescue us. They"re only four, and there is a young mom with her baby here. A baby ! We need to give it a try !"
""We" ? You can just say "you" ! What if right at the moment you open the door a dozen of those zombies goes in ? You"re trying to feed them ? Well, I don"t want to be the food !"
"Of course not, you can attack an isolated one, if it tries to bite you, run inside a room and lock the door. Wait until it forgets. You saw it, yesterday, they forgot we were inside and went elsewhere. Then, when you know it"s gone, you come back, I"ll make you enter and everything is fine !"
"Are you mad ?"
The two sisters continued to argue until Daisy came out. When she heard the strange idea Millie came up with, her face became green and she strongly opposed it. Nora, who only heard a few words coming from her mouth since she came here was quite surprised to witness her reject this option with this much strenght. Daisy was scared that zombies would enter the room, and she didn"t want to send someone to a certain death. Even if she had a hard time accepting strangers in her life, she wasn"t inhuman.
Her husband was coming too. What if their idea made it worse for him and the group ?
Faced with two voices against her"s, Millie had to forget it. But she was determined to convince them, little by little. If her sister could survive this apocalypse this way, wouldn"t that be great ? She honestly thought that her sister could become their hope if she really could kill those zombies like this. And if it didn"t work, so what ? She just had to wait until they ignored her again. Millie didn"t completely realize she was giving her sister the role of a savior. She wasn"t invincible, of course, she just had more cheats. Yes, four cops were coming to help them get out, but eventually, Nora was a huge advantage in their survival.
Nora didn"t know she already held such a high status in her sister"s mind. But this idea of her"s was already enough for her to know the four cops could have the same idea. She wasn"t aware of the informations Daisy shared with her husband about her, but maybe they already knew she wasn"t normal. And they could use it.
Nora gulped. She just realised the new group coming here wasn"t that good for her.
What if they just decide to erase the problem she was ?
As if those new interrogations weren"t enough, Daisy received a call from Jamie.
They had entered the building.
