Chapter 3: A Thousand Miles of Caring and Hope 2/2

Lin Qian’s career in Ai Da started in a state of tumult, and so no one could predict how it would pan out.

There were three people a.s.signed to the President’s Office, including Lin Qian. The other two were fresh graduates

HR staff explained to her: “In it’s heyday, the department had drove of people, at least 77 people in it. However, when the former CEO left, the people left in droves.”

Lin Qian was supposed to monitor the market, according Gu Yan Zhi’s secretary, she was to make reports. Every morning she was to gather industry information and news, as reference for the President. Additionally, she was to report the various departments of the company’s work plans and weekly summary a copy of which would be sent to her and which she would organize into a separate report; of course, if there is something big news outside these two areas, she would also need to summarize the relevant reference information first.

In a word, all she had to do was to keep writing reports, report writing, write reports…

Of course, this kind of work was monotonous and boring, and was quite distanced from the actual operations of the company. Lin Qian didn’t like that. But then she thought about herself. If someone came from a rival company and was immediately placed into an important position to handle sensitive information, it would be weird right? So she was relieved. She simply concentrated on writing reports every day, a few days off, and within a few days, she had Ai Da’s basic situation memorised like the back of her hand.

Every report was sent to the secretary and then to Gu Yan’s table, but she did not know whether or not he ever even saw it. Later, he spoke to his secretary and asked her to send email copies to a specific mailbox. Lin Qian read the email address: Apache2013126.vip.com. Was “Apache” Gu Yan Zhi’s English name? But it was not quite like other names, so it may be the first letter of a word or a short phrase. Lin Qian tried to figure out the significance by herself for a while, but couldn’t.

On the weekend Lin Qian got up very early, and took a ride to the nursing home on the other side of the city.

Green Garden nursing home was newly built after 2010, and the facilities were the city’s best and most comfortable. Lin Qian was carrying bags of fresh fruit, as a nurse led the way, and after they walked down along a little way, they could see He Qing Ling sitting under a tree.

Lin Qian pace could not help but softly, walking up to her: “Mother …”

He Qing Ling was over 50, with a thin face that had fine wrinkles. Facing her and calmly looking at her, she said: “Well, you’ve come back.”

Mother and daughter had a little conversation, Lin Qian talking most of the time, as He Qing Ling listened. Before long, He Qing Ling said she was tired and wanted to rest.

“Since you’re busy at work, I won’t keep you.” She said.

Orderlies pushed her wheelchair and walked into the distance, Lin Qian stood static for a while, then took out her phone and called Lin Mo Chen.

“I am at the nursing home. Mama looked pretty good.” She paused, “Do you want to talk to her?”

For Lin Mo Chen it was probably already late into the night, and he listened to her very quietly, only his gentle breathing on the other side.

“Lin Qian.” He said, “I don’t need to know the status of that woman.”

Lin Qian didn’t make a sound.

When He Qing Ling had become determined to divorce her husband, she had taken Lin Qian, who was an infant, with her. Since then, Lin Mo Chen didn’t call He Qing Ling “Mama”.

That afternoon, Lin Qian drove around the nursing home area, and visited an old school friend living nearby. When she came out from my cla.s.smate’s home, it was past nine.

She declined her old cla.s.smate’s offer to drive her back home, and since she didn’t want to take a taxi, she slowly strolled to the bus stop alone. Suburban night, very very quiet. On the empty platform, only the street light’s thin yellowish light shone.

Soon, the last bus came.

Lin Qian took a seat by the window in the rear seat.

Because it is the starting station, it probably wasn’t the time for departure, so the driver yelled at her: “Girl, wait there for five minutes.” And then lay his head on the steering wheel, and dozed off.

Lin Qian draped her coat, and looking out of the window at the night, her mind was in chaos, not knowing what she is thinking.

At the same time, there were footsteps at the entrance door, and a very tall man walked up.

Lin Qian turned around involuntarily, looked him in the eye and went back to looking out of the window.

After a few seconds, she suddenly turned her head back to look at him.

The light at the back was dim, and the man was wearing a dark gray suit, black sport trousers and outdoor shoes. Lin Qian could tell from just at a glance, that all the clothing was from high quality brands. He also wore a cap, its brim pulled down low, revealing only the high bridge of his nose and clean lines of his lower jaw. But even from what little could be seen of the face, it also felt like a kind of chiselled handsomeness.

Lin Qian’s heart thumped.

A déjà vu feeling came to mind. That man’s height was exactly the same as his, and the strong and unique aura, how could it be described? Cool and staunch, somewhat cruel and untamed, rebellious yet aloof, even if he was silent and still, it was impossible to ignore his existence.

This time, he was taking long strides, and coming her way. Lin Qian immediately looked out of the window.

He was very smooth and neat, and soon walked away from her. Lin Qian reflection of light look in the window, he is in the last row to sit down.

Soon the bus started.

On sky was starry, the street empty, cool water at night. Only the big bus’ “thud thud” sounds of driving were heard.

Lin Qian sat there for a moment, but then curiosity prevailed, and she simply turned around and looked at him directly–

Uh…

He’d… gone back to sleep.

Due to being so big he sat back, one arm resting on the back of the seat in front, acting as a pillow for his face, which was buried deep inside, his other arm draped casually in his lap. The cap which was pulled low over his face completely blocked any view of him.

Hi, big cat.

Lin Qian all of a sudden gave a little laugh.

She leaned forward, head bent low, trying to look him in the face, and failing. Due to the bus interior’s lighting and the shadows thrown on his face, she could only see a blurred outline…

“What are you looking at? “A cool deep voice asked, suddenly.

Lin Qian, startled, jumped up suddenly and straightened, her face hearing up. He slowly lifted his face from the arms, and with dark heavy eyes, quietly looked up to her.
