Chapter 1308: Critical Condition
Night.
After 10 pm.
The sky is dark.
Dong Xuebing ran downstairs and got into a cab.
“Where are you going?”
“Heping Hospital.”
“Why are you in a rush?”
“Can you drive faster? Thank you.”
“Is your loved one in hospital? Hang on!”
The driver did not ask much after he saw Dong Xuebing was in a rush. He floored the accelerator.
Inside the cab.
Dong Xuebing called Xie Jing.
Ring… ring… ring… Xiao Jing might be sleeping as she took a while to answer.
“h.e.l.lo, Brother-in-law?”
“Xiao Jing! Come to Heping Hospital now.”
“Hospital? I am sleeping. What’s wrong?”
“Something happened to Sun Hai! He was stabbed!”
“What did you say? Impossible. We spoke over the phone an hour ago.”
“Stop talking and come immediately. I don’t know his condition. I am on my way and is reaching soon.”
“What… how… how did it happen?” Xie Jing panicked, and she sounded like she was about to cry.
Dong Xuebing replied. “That is a small hospital, and there’s not much they can do. Try to see if you can get him transferred to a bigger hospital. I am here and got to hang up.”
“All right… I will go over now…”
The cab driver sent Dong Xuebing to the hospital’s entrance within four minutes.
Dong Xuebing paid the driver and ran into the hospital. It’s late, and there are not many patients at the hospital. He saw a nurse and grabbed her arm. “Is there a guy sent here in an ambulance not long ago? Where is he now?”
“The one who was stabbed?”
“Yes. Where is he now?”
“He is in the operating theater on the second floor.”
“Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it. Are you his family? He… he might not make it.”
Dong Xuebing’s face changed when he heard this, and he ran to the stairs.
Second floor.
Outside of the operating theater.
A group of people were standing outside.
They were the middle school students and teachers from Lui An City. They were in Beijing on a school trip. Two male teachers stared at the operating theater door with their hands clenched into fists. Three female teachers’ eyes were red, and one was crying. The rest were students. Three to four female students were crying and mumbling. “Teacher Sun…” The nurses and doctors outside the operating theater asked them to keep quiet, but the sobbing did not stop.
Dong Xuebing ran over. “Where is Sun Kai?”
Everyone looked at him. “You… who are you?”
“I am his friend. Where is he? How is his condition?” Dong Xuebing asked.
A male teacher walked over and said. “The doctors are trying to save him inside.”
Dong Xuebing was furious. He looked at the sobbing female students. They were in their teens and still wearing their uniforms. He immediately knew Sun Kai was stabbed when he tried to save them. He pointed at them. “What are you all thinking? How can you girls go out at night in an unfamiliar city? Don’t you know it is dangerous? Are you all stupid?”
A girl cried. “We… we thought Beijing was safe.”
“Safe your head!” Dong Xuebing shouted. “How is this safe? It’s too late now.”
The nurses outside overheard them and asked. “Is that guy a teacher? How did he get hurt?”
A female teacher wiped her tears and said. “Teacher Sun was protecting the students against four hooligans. He rushed forward without hesitation and stood in front of them. He stayed on his feet after he was stabbed and continued to protect them.”
Another female teacher cried loudly.
A male teacher looked at the doctor. “Can Teacher Sun be saved? Tell us. Can he survive?”
Everyone turned towards that doctor.
The doctor overheard them and knew the patient was injured for trying to protect his students. He thought for a while and sighed. “You should not send him to our hospital. Our main surgeon had a heart attack tonight and is in the operating theater now. Our Deputy Director is on vacation and needs at least three hours to arrive. He will not be here in time. The other surgeons in our hospital now cannot handle such a major operation. You should send him to the nearest Triple-A hospital. He might have a chance to survive there.”
Dong Xuebing’s eyes grew cold. “Then why did your hospital accept him?”
The doctor explained. “The ambulance had arrived. If we don’t accept the patient and handle his injury, he will surely not survive. He also cannot last until he reaches other hospitals. We contacted nearby hospitals, hoping they could send a good surgeon over. But I think it’s too late. The patient was stabbed in his abdomen and lost a lot of blood. It’s difficult to st.i.tch his wound and stop the bleeding.”
A student in plaids asked. “Are… are you saying Teacher Sun cannot survive?”
The doctor replied. “I hope you all can be prepared. Even our Deputy Director might not save him. His injury is too serious.”
“How can this be?”
“Teacher Sun… Teacher Sun…”
“Sob… no… no…”
The floor outside of the operating theater still has wet blood stains. This was the severity of Sun Kai’s injury.
Dong Xuebing asked. “How much time does he have?”
The doctor sighed. “I don’t know how long he can last. He might pa.s.s away anytime. You should contact his family members. Maybe they can get to see him the last time.” Most doctors would not be so direct. But this doctor told them directly. This is equivalent to telling them Sun Kai will not survive.
Many cried along the corridor.
Many male students and teachers’ eyes turned red.
Dong Xuebing knew this was an emergency and did not say much. He pushed the doctor and nurse aside and opened the operating theater door. It was not locked, and he entered.
“Eh! What are you doing?”
“Don’t go in! They are operating on the patient!”
The people outside tried to stop Dong Xuebing. The doctors and nurses inside were stunned.
But the doctors and nurses had no time to care. They were trying to stop the patient’s bleeding and transfusing blood.
Dong Xuebing ignored the doctor who was trying to stop him. He walked to the table and looked at Sun Kai. He was as pale as a sheet, and his stomach had a gaping hole. Dong Xuebing could see his organs inside, and blood was gus.h.i.+ng out.
Miraculously, Sun Kai was awake.
“Xiao Sun.” Dong Xuebing’s eyes were red. “You must hang on!”
Sun Kai smiled weakly as he looked at Dong Xuebing. “Brother Dong. Am I not going to make it?”
Dong Xuebing shouted at him. “You are still young, and you are going to make it! You still have a long way to go! Don’t worry. You will be fine.”
The chief surgeon in the room looked at Dong Xuebing and turned to the doctor and nurses, trying to drag Dong Xuebing out. “Let him talk to the patient. We need the patient to stay awake.”
“Teacher Sun!”
“Teacher Sun!”
The operating theater door opened, and they could hear the students.
The nurses quickly closed the door as they didn’t want them to disrupt the operation.
Sun Kai heard his students shouting for him and said. “Brother Dong. I don’t have your combat skills. Xiao Jing always tells me how good you are. You can fight against a few dozen people easily. But… I could not even fight against four hooligans. I realize it is not easy. I can never learn your skills in my lifetime.”
The surgeon said. “Continue talking to the patient, and don’t let him fall asleep. Don’t let him talk too much too.”
Dong Xuebing clenched his teeth and said to Sun Kai. “What are you talking about? You are better than me. I can fight against dozens of people because I know they are not my match. That’s why I dare to fight them. You are different. You know you cannot win against those hooligans, but you still step forward to protect your students.” He felt his heart aching. “I am not as good as you. Xiao Jing did not pick the wrong guy.”
Sun Kai smiled and moved his lips. But he could not say anything.
Dong Xuebing tensed up. “Hang in there! Can you hear me? Xiao Jing is on her way here!” He shouted and narrowed his eyes. He focused on Sun Kai’s body and not directly on his wound.
REVERSE!
Dong Xuebing used one second.
REVERSE deactivated.
Dong Xuebing was not healing his wound, and the effect was minimal.
The blood pressure value on the monitoring device rose a little, and the heart rate increased from 38 to 51. Sun Kai’s condition improved slightly.
The surgeon and his a.s.sistants were slightly relieved.
Sun Kai’s face was slightly less pale but still looked terrible. After all, the wound on his stomach was deep.
What should I do?
Dong Xuebing closed his eyes.
Sun Kai would not survive if Dong Xuebing did not do anything. Using REVERSE to slow down his injuries is ineffective and could not stop his bleeding. Dong Xuebing could tell the surgeon was inexperienced as he struggled with the forceps and did not do any st.i.tches. However, Dong Xuebing would expose his powers if he used REVERSE to heal Sun Kai’s injuries and return his body condition to yesterday. He could not explain how it happened.
Dilemma…
Dong Xuebing does not know what to do.
