Chapter 1316: Who can compare with your Brother-in-law?
Hospital.
Inside the ward.
Sun Kai stuttered. “I… I am feeling much better.”
Xia Yanzhen smiled. “That’s great. Rest well.”
“Yes… I will. Thank you for asking.” Sun Kai quickly replies.
Xia Yanzhen patted Sun Kai. “You just finished an operation. Don’t talk so much, and rest well. I will contact my friend and arrange to transfer you to a better hospital when your condition is stable. The facilities here are not good, and it will affect your recovery.”
Sun Kai’s mother said nervously. “No… no need. It’s too troublesome.”
“That’s right.” Sun Kai’s father said. “This place is good.”
Xia Yanzhen looked at them. “It’s only a phone call and not troublesome. Xiao Kai is seriously injured, and I worry about his recovery. He should transfer.”
Dong Xuebing added. “First Aunt is correct. The conditions here are slightly lacking.” It’s more than slightly lacking. The hospital does not have a proper surgeon. The only surgeon they have is an intern. Sun Kai would be dead if Dong Xuebing did not operate on him.
Sun Kai’s mother does not know what to say. “Then… thank you very much.”
“Don’t mention it.” Xia Yanzhen stood up. “I should apologize to Xiao Kai and you all. We interfered with Xiao Kai’s job earlier because we felt Xiao Kai and Xiao Jing were not compatible. We do not look down on you all. Although Xiao Jing’s father and I are government servants, we are normal folk. We hope Xiao Jing can have a good life and find someone who can protect her. Honestly, my first impression of Xiao Kai is not good. I feel he is unmotivated and not ambitious. Although he is honest, I worry about letting Xiao Jing be with him.”
Xie Jing protested. “Sun Kai…”
“Listen to me first.” Xia Yanzhen interrupted her and said slowly. “My phone rang before I woke up this morning. I heard Xiao Kai was stabbed to protect his students. He almost died, and I was shocked. I did not expect the timid young man to be so brave. I felt guilty after hanging up and didn’t know what to say. Xiao Jing’s father asked me what happened, and I told him we misunderstood Sun Kai.” She patted Sun Kai’s hand. “Well done.” She paused a while and repeated. “Well done.”
Sun Kai replied weakly. “Those are my students. I should do that.”
Xia Yanzhen said to him. “You don’t need to return to Lu An City after you recover. I will arrange a position for you in Beijing Education Ministry. I heard your parents’ health was not good. It’s easier to care for them if you are nearer. I don’t need to do anything. This incident should be reported in the papers today, and someone will arrange a job for you after you are discharged.”
Dong Xuebing joked. “First Aunt, you are poaching my mother’s staff.”
Dong Xuebing was referring to his mother, Luan Xiaoping.
Xia Yanzhen laughed. “Did your mother arrange Xiao Kai’s job in Lui An City? Then you must ask her to release him. I don’t want my daughter to take long-distance buses to meet her boyfriend every time.
Boyfriend?
Boyfriend?
Sun Kai was stunned. “Aunty, you are saying…”
Xie Jing exclaimed. “Mum, you agreed?”
Xia Yanzhen looked at her. “Where can I find such a good young man? Haha… Your Dad and I are a.s.sured of him caring for you.”
“Mum…” Xie Jing hugged Xia Yanzhen and started crying.
Xia Yanzhen stroked her daughter’s hair. “Silly girl. Why are you crying? Are you still angry with me?”
“No.” Xie Jing shook her head and hugged her mother’s arm. “I should not get angry with you. I’m sorry.”
“I am your mother. We have to accept your tantrums. Haha…”
“What about Dad?”
“Your Dad is not as cold as you think. He asked me to rush here this morning. How many days has it been since you returned home? Come back when you are free.”
“Yes.”
“All right. Stop crying.”
“Ok.”
Xie Jing continued hugging her mother. She finally got her parents’ approval.
Xia Yanzhen smiled and hugged her daughter with one hand. She looked at Sun Kai’s parents. “I apologize for what happened to Xiao Kai. He would not lose his job if it weren’t for us, and he would not go to Lui An City to teach. He would not encounter this incident and almost lose his life.”
Sun Kai said. “It got nothing to do with you.”
Sun Kai’s mother added. “That’s right. You should not say that.”
“I must apologize.” Xia Yanzhen said. “Sorry.”
Dong Xuebing added. “I should be responsible for everything. I arranged for Xiao Kai to teach in Lui An City. This would not happen if I did not interfere.”
Xia Yanzhen knew Dong Xuebing was trying not to make her feel bad. She looked at him and smiled.
The door opened, and the nurse entered. “Can the family members wait outside? We are going to check the patient.”
“Ok.”
“Let’s go.”
“We will wait outside.”
Everybody left the ward.
Xia Yanzhen asked while walking out. “Have the robbers been caught?”
Xie Jing nodded. “All of them were caught last night.”
Xia Yanzhen nodded and squeezed her daughter’s hand. “Xia Kai is a good man. Stay around to take care of him. Not many people will risk their lives for their students.”
Xie Jing smiled embarra.s.sedly and glanced at Dong Xuebing. “No… Sun Kai is nothing when compared to Brother-in-law.”
Xia Yanzhen smiled. “Stop comparing Sun Kai to your Brother-in-law. Who can compare with him?
Dong Xuebing waved his hand. “Why are you getting me involved?”
“I heard you did the surgery.” Xia Yanzhen looked at Dong Xuebing. “I didn’t know you knew surgeries. I heard some nurses talking about you and calling you Doctor Dong and Miracle Doctor.”
Dong Xuebing quickly explained. “No… I learned some basics for a few days.”
Xia Yanzhen laughed. “Stop explaining. I might be shocked if I don’t know you. But I am numb to your surprises now. You are Dong Xuebing. I am not surprised with whatever you did.”
Dong Xuebing: “……”
