The woman walked into the room, her glorious deep red hair curled all the way down to her waist as the white blouse and black pants she was wearing accented her features. The large white cape around her shoulders gave her a halo look almost making me think for a split second that I was in heaven."Sorry I am late. I had to do interrogation on those filthy a.s.sa.s.sins." She told the others while placing a bag on the ground behind the desk and spun around to look me in the eyes.
Her glossy greyish black eyes seemed surprisingly sincere and gentle almost like Lily"s eyes except they were grey. I could see her skin practically glowing which made me curious if all ladies that were high-mages had glowy skin.
"I am High Priestess Dawn. I am one of the leaders of this coven you"re in. Nice to meet you." She nods her head to me before turning to the Archmages. "I didn"t expect for all of you to come. This actually quite exciting." High Priestess Dawn clapped happily when I c.o.c.ked an eyebrow at her in confusion.
"I"m not sure what is happening here. Could anyone explain to me why I am here? And what it is you all want from me?" I ask, drawing High Priestess Dawn"s attention back to me while she smiled and nodded.
"Sorry. I thought you were aware of what it is you are here for. Archmage Seria, Wym, and Poppy told me about the fight between the a.s.sa.s.sins and yourself. We all felt the energy you used when fighting them. I ordered for them to figure out what was happening. It"s a good thing since you would have used your energy healing that poor boy." She sighs sadly while I rubbed my temples and stared at each of them then back at her.
"I had the situation under control. I"ve-" I stopped for a moment, not wanting to go into full detail of my life. "I would have been fine if I knew he was alright. And here I am. Still unsure if he is since I don"t have a reason to trust you all. As you know, I came here earlier that day due to another rogue attack and not even hours later I was kicked out. So sorry for not trusting any of you." I confess truthfully when she nodded and sat on the desk.
"I understand dear. If it was me I would be the same exact way." She a.s.sures me, kind of surprised me a little. "However, surely someone like you understands that we deserve a second chance right?" She says as if she knows who I am and what I"ve done. We stare at each other for a moment before I sighed and messed with the bandage on my arm.
"What do you all want from me?" I ask them all this time while High Priestess Dawn smiled brighter this time.
"We"d like to teach you here. Each of us teaches specific magic. Archmage Nexus teaches the mechanics, repair and building magic. Archmage Wyn teaches how one controls the weather and makes it bend to his will. Archmage Lily teaches how to control animals and grow plant life. Archmage Poppy teaches how to use defense and attack magic against certain creatures. Archmage Seria teaches pretty much everything having to do with the elements and how to use them with enough intensity. I teach only a selected few on healing and reading another"s memories. Much like how I"ve done with you." High Priestess Dawn explains to me, my breath catching in my throat when realizing that she knows who I truly am.
Yet here we are.
"I-" I wasn"t sure what to say about all of this. It was a tad bit overwhelming, to be honest, and my head was starting to hurt from thinking too much.
"Don"t worry dear. I will give you time to think over whether you"d like to take our trial and learn from one or even more of us. Archmage Seria will bring you back to your room and let you rest with your mate." High Priestess Dawn tells me while Archmage Seria stood up and motioned me to the door.
"Aw! No fair! You"re letting Archmage Seria have the upper hand!" Poppy whines like a little girl, confusing me as to what she meant as the upper hand.
Archmage Seria just rolled her eyes and opened the door for me. I turned to the five people and nodded my head to them.
"Thank you for the opportunity." I turned around and left the room, going out into the hallway as Archmage Seria took lead once again. All the thoughts and questions seemed to pile into my head while we walked.
Why was the High Priestess so interested in me?
What did Poppy mean about Archmage Seria having the upper hand?
Did the High Priestess know everything about me including my thoughts?
Why hasn"t she kicked me out of here?
Better yet, why didn"t she expose who I truly am?
More and more questions seemed to fill my mind while Archmage Seria opened the door to where Zavier was. I was about to walk inside when she stopped me, causing me to glance up at her.
"Look. I get it. You"ve had a rough life and those a.s.sa.s.sins are interested in who you are. I know my High Priestess knows the true you. And I plan to figure you out as well. You won"t be able to hide your ident.i.ty from me or any of these people. I will figure out the real you." Archmage Seria informs me while I narrowed my eyes at her and shrugged with a smile.
"Have fun with that Seria." I could tell she hated the fact I called her by her first name as I entered the room and shut the door quietly behind me.
A long sigh left my lips while I looked over at a sleeping Zavier, his calm features making all my thoughts leave my mind. I pushed off the door and walked over to him quietly, sitting down on the bed beside him.
"I am sorry for putting you in this situation. I hope you can forgive me." I whisper, letting myself indulge on all his features.
His strong jawline had small cuts probably from the rocks that were underneath him when he fell at the meadow. The bandage around his head had a small blood stain that looked a few hours old.
Hopefully, his head had stopped bleeding otherwise I would wrap it again for him.
My worry and anxiety for him overruled anything that I could have had. I knew that this has to have been the worst feeling I"ve felt and I"ve felt rejection from him.
I knew that if he rejected me, he"d be saved from this life I lived. The life that"s full of pain and misery.
But here we are.
I told him not to come with me. I knew that something bad would have happened.
I could have done something to prevent this, but he was the one to follow me. I tried my d.a.m.n hardest to have him stay away.
After having s.e.x with him I thought my attraction to him would go away... But it didn"t.
It only intensified.
Now I have all these feelings aren"t fake and this isn"t me acting anymore. They"re more real and rawer than anything I"ve ever felt.
And that"s what scared me the most.
I was losing a battle to him and he wasn"t even fighting.
I was losing yet... I accepted the loss and wanted us to be with one another more than ever.
Yet he has a mate that he hasn"t met.
Who am I to take that right from him?
Who am I to prevent him from finding that kind of love?
As I stared down at Zavier. I thought of what kind of family we could raise, what kind of home we"d have, even what kind of pet we"d raise. The more I thought, the more desperate I was for this future.
The more I wanted it to happen to me...
But it can"t happen.
We were meant to be friends- not even- acquaintances.
It"s my wishing that"ll make things go wrong.
I sighed deeply, leaning over and pressing my lips to the crown of his head. The sparks of being with one another too much for me to bare.
I stood up from the bed, walking over to the corner and pulled the chair next to his bed. Silently, I sat down and grasped his hand with both of mine.
Hoping when he woke up that he"d be okay.
〰〰〰
A cough shot me out of my sleep and looking at Zavier, seeing if he was awake but in fact that it wasn"t Zavier who coughed but someone else behind me.
I turned around, not letting go of his hand, and saw a man with dark brown hair that was cut short and red piercing eyes that were slightly discomforting. He was wearing a pair of dark green pants with a black muscle shirt, unlike many of the other people I"ve met here, he was not wearing a cape.
"Hi. I wasn"t able to introduce myself earlier but I am High Priest Ivan. Nice to meet you." He held his hand out to me as I shifted, not bothering to shake it.
"What do you want?" I bluntly ask him while he smiled.
"I just wanted to meet what all the Archmages were speaking about. You seem to be popular around here." He tells me, summoning a chair and sitting down on it a few feet away from me.
"I didn"t ask to be," I growl at him, staying quiet for Zavier"s sake.
"Oh. I know. But you can"t blame the mages for gossiping. You are in fact powerful if you can summon." His words made me stare at him more intensely.
"I don"t know what you"re talking about." I lie, wondering how he knew I could summon.
"Don"t lie. My soulmate told me you summoned a wolf once. Though she"d tell me more, but she told me I had to convince you to stay in order to hear more about this wolf summon. I"m always fascinated by those." He comments when I nodded, understanding that High Priestess Dawn told him about that.
So it true she knows who I am...
"Why do you care anyway?" I question, hating that he knew more than he let on when meeting me.
"Why. I am the person who teaches mages how to summon." He simply says, smiling a bit too much for my liking.
"That"s nice," I said, not paying much attention anymore while holding his hand tightly.
He didn"t say anything for a few moments before I heard him shift his chair a little closer to me causing me to look back at him again.
"I"m sorry you have to see this. Your soulmate I mean." He nods to Zavier when I sighed and leaned my head on the bed by his hand.
"Do you know when he"ll wake up?" I ask him, hoping he"d know since he was the High Priest.
"Let me look real quick." He reached over to grab the clipboard and read what was on it. I wasn"t sure how, but they prevented anyone from reading that stupid clipboard who isn"t important in the coven.
I nearly broke it trying to decipher the d.a.m.n thing earlier.

"It says that he needs another day to get some rest. But I can wake him up for you if you like." He offers me, slipping the clipboard back where it was when I turned to him completely.
"Really? You can do that?" I ask in a hopeful voice when he nodded with a small smile.
"Of course, but there"s one thing I want you to promise." He told me, making the chair he was sitting in disappear after standing up.
"Anything."
"Think about our offer here. I was amazed by the surge of energy you gave off. If it was up to me, you"d already be training but that"s why it"s not up to me. My lovely mate has taken you under her wing. She very fond of you and if you refuse the offer it"ll break her heart. And I will kick your a.s.s if she is hurt. So think about it." He warns me, his eyes flashing for a split second as I nodded.
"I will," I promise, not wanting to break the promise or even to harm High Priestess Dawn. She seemed so motherly and comforting.
He closed his eyes, saying something under his breath before I felt Zavier"s hand twitch underneath mine. I stood up quickly, staring down at him as Zavier"s eyes slowly opened to the warming green.
"Zavier..." I smiled, tears welling in my eyes when I hugged him tightly making him groan loudly. I let him go quickly, giving him an apologetic smile. "Sorry," I whisper, brushing the pieces of hair out of his face while High Priest Ivan came around to the other side and held his hand over Zavier.
"Xenon..." He mumbled reaching his hand up my face and holding it there for a slight moment.
"Get some rest you two. I"ll be back later to drop some food off for you both." High Priest Ivan nodded to the both of us, leaving his side and walking towards the door. I grasped Zavier"s hand before spinning around.
"High Priest Ivan," I called him back before he could leave, his red eyes finding mine. "Thank you." He smiled over at me, nodding to me once again and leaving the both of us.
I sat back down on the bed and turned all of my attention to Zavier, smiling like there was no tomorrow.
