Once the girl was safely away, Allen looked back at the girl with mixed feelings on his face. He didn"t know what to say to her. To think she just jumped off his horse just like that. What was he thinking letting his guard down? Maybe because so much time had pa.s.sed since he last spent some time with her.

"Why did you do this again?"

Lyn laughed, "I didn"t think you"d worry about me."

"Do not give me that. I have every right to worry about you," Allen said. But Lyn was right, he didn"t know why he was still worried about her. After all, their relations.h.i.+p with each other was only that of people who used to be close — people who used to be together all the time. The person who was his first love; and yet he"s already long given up that she would even look his way.

"You would call a situation an accident, I believe."

Whenever he was around Lyn he always spoke normally, his usual formal tone never slipped through. Whenever he was with her, it was challenging to do so. It is challenging to maintain a facade in front of her.

"I see," were the only words that pa.s.sed her lips. For the next few minutes, Allen simply watched her, he took in her appearance. Such fair skin and luscious long black hair, jewel-like eyes, perfect nose, shoulders - she is perfection.

"Why, would you do something like that?" Allen rephrased his question slightly.

"Honestly I didn"t understand why I did it"

One of the many things he understood about her before were vague answers are her specialty. "I didn"t understand why I saved that child. I don"t understand why I end up taking reckless actions when it comes to Kazuya. After Kazuya knocked me out I woke up, I started to think about many things. He"s always constantly getting hurt for my sake. Always fighting a never-ending battle just for me..."

Allen paused, should he tell her? Since it concerns her, she has the right to know, doesn"t she? Yet Allen was hesitating, "That is because....."

Lyn quickly interjected, "The council is monitoring me, right? I know."

Allen blinked, so she knew? Then again, that"s not a surprise either. She"s always been this way, always like this. "If you knew you should have said something," Allen commented. "That fool has been acting far too carelessly because of you."

"That"s exactly why I didn"t, she paused, "I told you before, didn"t I? That I gave everybody the same piece of advice,"

Allen nodded, "It seems like everyone"s been taking those words seriously. Then again, since it came from you, everyone can trust that those words have meaning," he trailed off. Allen is not the kind of person to believe in philosophical words, and he cannot even hope to understand something like that. After all, words are just words. If you cannot prove it with your actions, is it not completely meaningless?

Those words of his caused the black hair girl to start laughing. "Yeah, that"s probably it. Everyone is taking my words seriously. It"s a strange feeling, but somehow I"m glad. Since everyone came together, it"s become a lot more cheerful all of a sudden."

She said those words with a smile, and yet he could sense the loneliness in the girl"s words. Even now, Allen could still remember it quite clearly how colds the black hair girls gaze was that time the news of her mothers pa.s.sing came. What she has always wanted; perhaps a part of him had known for a long time now.

"There is something in this world that can"t be seen by others. It is something that can bring out peoples inner selfishness and greediness, but at the same time, it can be used to bring people together. You know that something is definitely something amazing - but for each and every individual it will probably be different, and that"s exactly why I"m relieved to hear that there all thinking about it so carefully. After all its different for every single individual," Lyn said.

Allen said nothing, but indeed, he was listening to the girl"s words carefully. It"s different depending on the person, huh?

Lyn continued, "But let"s see how to put it? It can be the same depending on what that something is." Allen looked at her with wide eyes. Did she read his thoughts just now? "You know that letter I wrote to you apologizing. To be honest, I was reluctant to write it. Because I always just used to disappear before saying anything to you, right?"

"I found that trait of yours to be quite annoying," Allen admitted. He hated how she would always disappear without saying anything to him, how she would take action without consulting him about it.

Lyn smiled at him, "I couldn"t say anything. Or rather there were so many things I wanted to tell you but I didn"t know how to put it in words. I didn"t know how to tell you. It"s strange, up till now I"ve always been able to read people. "After a certain amount of time, eventually people start to manifest all sorts of signs - and when that happens, I can completely read the person." It can be a handy skill, but at the same time its backfired so many times, it really is a double-edged sword."

"During the occasions, you came crying correct?"

The girl with him merely nodded at this.

Because she had, she was a huge crybaby. Even though Lyn gave off such a strong appearance, even though she was always so strong. Allen knew that inside, she was breaking apart. Even when people slowly started to acknowledge her, Allen knew that Lyn was falling apart. He knew it so well because, in the past, she had always gone to him crying countless times. Whenever they are alone, it would not take her long before she fell apart.

But these last two months, and a bit there is no need for that at all. Not once since he came back has Lyn come to him crying. Not once has she confined in him. Things are genuinely different in contrast to how they were before.

"Yeah, I"m a coward. Its something I"ve always known and understood. But even with that fact in mind so so many people have stayed beside me, and so so many have supported me. I am blessed to have met so many nice people," Lyn laughed softly, "I don"t understand why they all stay with me, though."

She doesn"t understand? Does he have to spell it out to her?

"Just now I said I could read people very well, right? That"s how its always been, especially with people I have known for a very long time. That"s how it always is. But with you, there"s always been an exception."

Allen struggled to remain calm when she said these words. Does Lyn not understand how misleading that sounds? No, calm down. He knew full well who the girl was in love with, and that person isn"t him.

"I do wonder whether or not I should feel flattered."

Lyn laughed, "It is a compliment," her gaze softened, "Don"t you think so?"

Allen only nodded.

"Yeah," Lyn paused, "Somehow it"s strange. No matter what happens - no matter what happens in each lifetime. The two of us always seem to meet each other."

That"s true, no matter what he always ends up meeting her no matter what happens. No matter what in his memories of his previous lifetime, he could see it clearly, the two of them were always together.
