Chapter 1721: Probably Used to Nourish My Life
There was deep sorrow in Qu Xiujie’s voice. He had yet to think about his situation back then and only knew that at that moment, it was as though he was abandoned by the whole world. He did not have any will to survive nor did he have the happiness when his family was harmonious.
It was as if at that moment, all the happiness had been shattered into pieces, like a mirror that could not be mended and could never return to its original state.
“We didn’t abandon you. That’s because Mom knows that keeping you in the Qu family is the best way. Only the Qu family can give you a bright future, while Mom and I…”
Zhang Manhua lowered her head guiltily. The spoon in her hand seemed to have lost its life as it hung helplessly by her side.
“But I’m not happy at all in the Qu family because without you guys, my happiness and joy are all gone.”
Qu Xiujie sounded very depressed. It had been so many years and only he himself knew how much pain he had been feeling. Everyone knew him as the young master of the Qu family but very few knew that in the Qu family, the things he said to Old master Qu would not be as much as what Old master Qu and the secretary said in a day.
No one knew what Qu Xiujie’s life was like in the Qu family and no one knew what kind of life Qu Xiujie’s mother had after leaving the Qu family.
“Xiujie, don’t be afraid. I’m back. Sister is back.”
Zhang Manhua’s voice was filled with sorrow and guilt.
“I don’t hate you guys. Really, as long as you’re back.”
Qu Xiujie placed the white soup bowl on the table at the side and walked forward to hug Zhang Manhua tightly. His voice was hoa.r.s.e as he choked, “Sister, since you’re back, please don’t leave anymore. I don’t want to see you guys leave me. I’ve already fallen out with the Qu family and they’ve stopped all my cards, but I don’t care. I just want you, Ge Ge, and these three adorable children. I only want you guys.”
Qu Xiujie did not care about the Qu family’s a.s.sets but the Qu family did.
“I’m not leaving. I won’t leave anymore. I’ll stay by your side, okay?”
Zhang Manhua’s voice was nasal. Indeed, she did not intend to return to America anytime soon. Even though technology was so advanced now, in her heart, accompanying her family was the most important thing.
Although the person overseas was also her family member, he understood all her emotions and thoughts well. Precisely because of this, Zhang Manhua could return from overseas with a peace of mind. It was also because of this that she was able to sit in the position of the d.u.c.h.ess for so long. The feeling of two people treating each other with mutual respect was truly wonderful.
“How long are you guys going to hug?”
Ran Ran had unknowingly run to the dining table. As Zhang Manhua and Qu Xiujie were not done yet, she could only sit on the chair and drool at the delicious food on the plate. However, Qu Xiujie and Zhang Manhua did not come over to eat.
Ran Ran finally could not take it anymore. She did not understand why hugging should be like this in an adult’s world. The mischievous her did not even think of her witty remark caused Qu Xiujie to walk up to her and carry her. His hard stubble p.r.i.c.ked her tender face.
“It hurts, granduncle. Let go of me.”
Ran Ran’s arms danced in the air as she was carried by Qu Xiujie. No matter how one looked at it, it was as though she was a cute little girl hiding in an adult’s embrace to seek warmth.
“I’m not letting go. Did you threaten your granduncle just now?”
Qu Xiujie laughed and the whole table was filled with joy.
“I didn’t. I’m just hungry.”
Ran Ran was speaking the truth. Ever since Ji Ziming called home to tell her that grandma was back, she was so excited that she did not even eat her favorite snacks. Even if she was thirsty, she would only drink some water. As long as she waited for Zhang Manhua’s arrival, all her suffering would be worth it. It was also because of this that Ran Ran got out of the car and went into the kitchen. Her goal was to see Zhang Manhua’s cooking firsthand.
Her greatest hobby was to taste these dishes for her parents.
Grandma’s cooking was very good. She could always make her hungry and could easily make her want to eat again in less than an hour.
“Ran Ran is hungry, so what do you want to eat? Shall I get it for you?”
Qu Xiujie carried Ran Ran and sat on the chair. He thought that if Ran Ran could not reach the food, as her granduncle, he might be able to help. However, Ran Ran’s next words were like a slap to Qu Xiujie’s face.
“I don’t want you to give it to me. I can get it myself.”
Ran Ran did not turn to look at Qu Xiujie and only looked at the dishes on the plate with her big eyes. Be it the fragrance or the color of the dishes in the bowl, they were all her favorite dishes. However, she could only look at the dishes and not eat them because Qu Xiujie was hugging her.
How worrying!
“Uncle, let Ran Ran come down. We don’t have to worry about what she wants to eat. She eats faster than us and is fuller than us. Just let her go to her seat. We really don’t have to worry.”
Pei Ge smiled as she looked at Qu Xiujie, who seemed to have turned into a withered eggplant from Ran Ran’s words.
“Granduncle, just let me go. If you don’t let me go, the tasty dishes will be eaten by my brothers later.”
Ran Ran did not care about the topic of discussion in this world. She only cared about when Qu Xiujie was willing to put her on her seat. Compared to her seat, she was more concerned about the plate of sweet and sour pork ribs in front of her.
The strong fragrance of pork ribs made her salivate. If not for Zhang Manhua and Qu Xiujie standing at the kitchen entrance, she would have probably wiped the dish clean.
However, Ran Ran had overestimated her abilities. Before she could destroy the pork ribs, Qu Xiujie had already brought the pork ribs in front of her to Zhang Manhua. He then brought the plate of red braised fish that Pei Ge had cooked to her and said gently, “Ran Ran, try your mommy’s braised fish. Eating more of this fish will nourish your brain…”
“The fish mommy made today will probably be used to nourish my life.”
Everyone was stunned by her words. They did not expect her to have such a deep grudge with the person who took away her food.
