Chapter 1250: Be a good sister and call me brother.
“Mommy, you go to work; I’ll look after these two.”
Facing Pei Ge’s worried gaze, An An pursed his lips like a little adult.
While her son was always reliable, he was only five!
“Okay. Be a good boy and take good care of your brother and sister at home. Mommy will arrange for someone to come here to look after you three,”
She smiled gently at these three.
Why three?
That was because a certain someone had left his child at her place under the pretext that he was busy.
She really wondered if Ji Chi was really that man’s son. How could he be so cold to his child?
“En. Bye, mommy!”
“Bye, mommy!”
She waved the three little guys goodbye and headed to work.
Along the way, she was filled with worry about something happening to the three kids by leaving them home alone.
What she did not antic.i.p.ate, though, was for her daughter to start an argument with Ji Chi immediately after she left.
“Little brother, why did you lie to mommy and said that you like spinach?” Ran Ran huffed angrily.
“I didn’t lie to mommy!”
The boy pouted, no longer looking like his obedient and pitiful self with the adults gone.
He looked at the girl expressionlessly. Although he was just five, he did not have the innocence of a five years old; instead, he appeared cold and distant.
Even though An An was aloof as well, he was just mature. Plus, his aloofness was directed to strangers.
As for Ji Chi, his coldness was his way of blocking off others as he guarded against them.
“You did lie! You clearly don’t like eating spinach! Hmph! I know it!”
His cold manner had slightly upset Ran Ran, causing her eyes to turn red.
“What if I don’t like it?”
The boy taunted at the girl, who looked like she would cry at any minute.
“Younger brother, don’t bully sister.”
An An, who was watching the two silently, finally spoke.
He walked to his sister’s side and patted her head as he looked at the younger boy reproachfully.
Indignation rose in the younger boy’s heart as the other boy defended the girl while chastising him.
“Who’s your younger brother? Stop calling me that!”
“Little brother…”
The older boy frowned at Ji Chi’s reply and, for some reason, felt slightly uneasy, but before he could say anything to comfort him, his sister started crying.
“Waaa! Brother, I feel terrible. My heart feels terrible…”
Ran Ran gripped her heart as she cried, her face turning red.
He panicked when he saw this.
He knew that his sister had a weak body. Her heart had not been good even in the past. Even though things had gotten a little better after the surgery, the doctor had never guaranteed that there would not be a relapse!
Thus, when he heard her say that her heart felt terrible, he panicked, thinking that she would have another attack.
“Hang on! I’ll call mommy now!”
He frantically raced for the phone to call their mother, who had just left the house, but before he could, his sister grabbed him.
“Stop! I feel terrible not because my heart is aching but…” She sniffled and looked at Ji Chi. “Because of this younger brother.”
Tears started rolling down her face thereafter.
The boy was stunned when the girl claimed that she was crying because of him.
Her words that followed made him even more stunned.
“Little brother feels terrible; I’m crying for him.”
As she spoke, Ran Ran walked over to him.
“Sorry. It’s my bad for making you feel bad.”
She held his palm with one hand and patted his head with the other as she regarded him with tearful eyes.
“You should say it if you are sad and cry if it hurts, or else no one will know how bad you feel…”
He froze upon hearing that. His s.h.i.+ny, black eyes looked at her.
The jealousy he had felt toward Ran Ran for having such a good mother and nice older brother disappeared.
Right now, his heart was filled with tenderness, and he felt that a sister like her deserved to be doted on by everybody. How nice it would be to have a sister like her…
“Don’t worry, little brother! You have me in the future! I’ll never let you feel sad again!”
She raised her hand to rub her eyes. She then looked at him with a searing gaze.
“I’ll split everything I have with you in the future. If anyone bullies you, I’ll get my older brother to beat them up! He’s really good! In New York, he…”
Hearing her start chattering, the corners of the boy’s mouth curved up into a slight but happy smile.
This child had, perhaps, inherited his father’s dishonest ways of expressing his feelings. He was clearly happy, but in the face of the girl’s chatter and An An regarding him tenderly, he turned his head and raised his chin.
“I’ve already told you that I’m not your younger brother! Who’s your little brother?”
Ran Ran froze when she heard that but laughed happily soon after.
“I’m older, so I’m your older brother, and you’re my younger sister!”
“Nonsense! I’m clearly the older one here!”
“Didn’t you say that you’ll give in to me in the future?”
“Wuu… Fine. I’ll let you be the older brother this time!”
“Good girl! Call me brother!”
“… Small brother!”
