Chapter 1501: A person’s heart will change.
“It’s great that n.o.body can steal it; if not, I can’t guarantee Manager Cheng’s job at Red Star.” Ji Ziming narrowed his eyes as he looked outside the window. He appeared just like a ruler overlooking his land.
“Yes. What sir said is right.”
Ever since he started working for this man, Cheng Liqing had never had an easy time. This company’s previous chairman lived only for money and benefits; as for this man, he did not seem to care which proposal would generate more profits for Red Star, yet the manager had to admit that his decisions were always accurate.
“Sure. Since we’re done signing the contract, my wife and I will be heading back home now.”
The man stood up and his height towered over the manager. There was a bit of mockery in his cold voice as he spoke. “I hope that you’ll keep your promise and protect that contract. If anyone comes into your office without permission, tell me at once.”
“Yes, sir; I got it.”
Cheng Liqing lowered his head, his voice filled with fright.
“You don’t have to be afraid of me; I’m your superior and not your debtor.” The man laughed. It was difficult to understand why this manager looked at him as though he were his enemy.
“You’re being too humble. You saved this company from bankruptcy. Everyone here is so grateful to you for that; why would we be afraid of you?”
The manager tried to explain himself, and in all honesty, he would rather face a debtor than this man.
“That’s great, then.” Ji Ziming’s eyes dimmed as he looked at his woman. “Madam, let’s go.”
“Alright.” Pei Ge nodded.
She remained silent when these two were signing the contract. She had no idea what he had said to the manager for the latter to be so afraid of the former. That contract for the transfer of manpower was no big deal, but he placed such high importance on it.
She seemed to be unable to understand the man right now.
“Oh, right. Appoint Huang Zhian from your department as your a.s.sistant.”
Just as the man was about to leave, he suddenly gave this instruction to Cheng Liqing.
“Huang Zhian?” The manager was confused. Although it could be said that that guy was slightly intelligent, he was not intelligent in his work. Cheng Liqing was great at sucking up and performed rather well in his job, so he was vastly different from that guy.
“Sir, what’s your reason for doing this?” He could not help but ask this, which was precisely what was on the woman’s mind, too.
“No reason. Though if you don’t want him, it’s also fine.”
The man turned around and pulled Pei Ge with him.
“Sorry. I’ll go settle this matter right away and get him to work for me.” The manager treaded carefully, and since this was an order from the boss, he could only accept it.
“Alright. Hurry then.” Ji Ziming nodded, but the smile in his eyes baffled the woman beside him.
“Why did you do that?”
In the car, Pei Ge could no longer suppress her curiosity and asked.
“Answer a question of mine first.” The man put down a folder.
“What question?” She wondered what sort of question would make him place emphasis on it.
“What’s your feeling toward Huang Zhian?”
“No feeling. He’s just a former middle-school cla.s.smate,” she answered truthfully. It was simply as such.
That guy was transferred to another school before their middle-school graduation. It would really be hypocritical for her to say that she had feelings of friends.h.i.+p for the guy.
“That’s great; now, I’m gonna tell you why I disapproved of you and that guy coming to Red Star together.” The man had a rare, stern look on his face as he regarded her, so it brought slight shock to the woman.
“Before you acquired Red Star, their chairman put forth a skyhigh higher acquisition price to have me meet him in person with only one aim in mind, and that is to find the spy in his company. You’re also aware that, before the company’s crisis, they were vying for a big project. Initially, Red Star was confident of winning the bid, but their proposal was stolen by their compet.i.tors, and they signed the contract first. This is why Red Star went under. It isn’t as what the rumors said about the chairman of Red Star trying his luck on another field.”
“So the four times acquisition price was just a pretense?” It was a rude awakening for Pei Ge, and it was no wonder that her negotiation for the contract signing had gone smooth. It turned out that she was kept in the dark about the real score here.
“Yes, it’s curated opinions to let the compet.i.tors know that Red Star was on the verge of bankruptcy and has been acquired by the Ji Group.”
“So it doesn’t matter whether I negotiated a price or not. The important thing is to find the spy who sold the company’s secrets to their compet.i.tor.”
“Yes.”
Ji Ziming nodded and the chilliness in his eyes made Pei Ge have even more admiration for him. He quietly put in place everything for her. Not only did he give her the motivation to work again, he allowed her to lead Red Star to march forward amid the fog again.
“So you’re suspecting Huang Zhian of being that spy?” Pei Ge thought of something and she asked this hurriedly.
“Right. There’s evidence to prove that after Red Star went bankrupt, a large amount was transferred to his mother-in-law.”
“How’s that possible? From what I know, he isn’t someone like that.” She could not believe it. She honestly did not peg Huang Zhian as a disgusting spy whom every company hated.
“A person’s heart can change; Ge Ge, you can’t be swayed by your emotions.”
Ji Ziming knew that she would not believe it, and he initially did not plan to come clean today, but the more she was left in the dark, the more hurt this woman would feel.
“I’m not swayed by my emotions. When he came looking for me this morning, I could tell what kind of person he is. How could he have done such a thing?”
“Whether you believe it or not, I had Cheng Liqing place the contract in his locker. Now, everyone in the real-estate industry knows that I signed a contract with Red Star. Those bribed him previously will definitely do it again.”
“Is that why you got Manager Cheng to appoint Huang Zhian as his a.s.sistant? With him being the nearest, it will be more obvious if he does something?”
“Yes, and only this way won’t I disappoint Red Star’s former chairman.”
He nodded. The way he looked at his woman became gentler. “Believe me; I won’t accuse an innocent man, but there’s evidence now that he’s the guy who betrayed Red Star. Still, I’m more inclined to find the mastermind behind it.”
“So you scattered your net and are waiting for the fish to swim into it?”
