KohraMorning court was different that day. I knew everyone tried to concentrate but it was hard with our newest addition. He looked really lost and I had no intention of helping him.
Since he was the prince consort, he was mandated to attend morning court. The chair beside me was finally occupied. It brought me no small amount of annoyance.
Jeir was helping him out but it was mostly for her own good. She liked eye candies and Lesker, well, he fell under her radar.
His reddish black hair, his blue doey eyes, his plump pink lips and his scrawny figure made him a target for most of the women here. I could already see them blushing. It irked ne.
I let out a grunt and all attention pulled to me at once.
"Your majesty, is there anything wrong with my report?"
"Yes. Those figures are way off chart and you"re trying to downplay the economic deficiencies in your state. Governor Isia, I"ve heard of your lavish parties and how you drain from state coffers all so often.
The mortality rate in your state is high and poverty is a norm. Yet, you throw parties and take consorts however you want. Governor Isia, I don"t toletate corruption. Guards!" I call and the captain of the guards appear with two other guards.
"Take her to the confinement room. Have the reaper deal with her" I order. They cuff her, kicking and screaming, and take her away.
I watch indifferently as she"s carried away. The other governors look at me in fear. They have all done horrible things but Isia topped the chart.
"This is a warning to all of you. I know what you"re doing and just because I don"t do anything doesn"t mean I can"t. I"ll be sending Jeir to do an audit in a hundred states in a 2 months period. If anyone comes short, to the confinement room they go" I threaten.
The confinement room is a torture room. The royal reaper is a very creative woman so the terror she brings is sometimes so terrifying, its unimaginable. It doesn"t help that she has black magix.
"She would be replaced by someone from the royal family by the end of today. The next person can start her report" I say, disinterested.
I take a look beside me and I"m taken aback. There"s worship in his eyes. He"s looking at me like I"m a hero. I feel uncomfortable. I don"t like it so I glare back. He takes his eyes away from me quickly.
Morning court ends soon. We walk tk the dinning room for breakfast. This time mother isn"t there. No one is. I don"t mind it, it"s better this way.
We sit and eat in silence. He"s not looking at my direction, which is supposed to be good but I selfishly want to grab his attention.
With that thought, I pinch myself. There"s something wrong with me. Why would I need the attention of a man? Have I been reduced to an ordinary woman who needs a man to survive? No! That"s preposterous.
"So, Lesker...." Jeir starts, one hand on her chin, propped on the table. She looks at him with interest. I can spot the mischief in her eyes.
"Tell us about what you do"
"M...m...me?"
"Yes you silly. I heard you"re a scholar who studies the G.o.ds. I"ve never heard of one before. Interest me in your profession"
He looks over to me, most likely for help. My eyes showed no hope so he just gave up. I don"t know why he keeps seeking my approval. Oh wait, I"m queen.
"It"s mostly research. I want to uncover things about the G.o.ds that no-one knows about. The truth, whether good or bad. The application of the knowledge of the G.o.ds in real life is more broad than we think. I can write spells, chants, enchantment...It"s really exciting"
"So you"re looking for a cure for your lack of magix then?" Jeir says uncaring.
He chokes on his food and begins to cough. She watches in amus.e.m.e.nt as he continued to cough. I roll my eyes and use time magix to remove what is stuck in his throat. It"s not that I care, it"s just, mother would have my head if he choked to death.
"Aw, are you shy Lesker? There"s no need to be. I already knew. Just needed you to confirm"
"Yes Lady Jeir. I am looking for a cure to my lack of magix"
"See, there was nothing to worry about" she says with a smile.
I take a good look at him again. On his neck, I see a flare of light. It looked like a spell. Interesting.
