Lyn walked over to the window and watched as the General left through the main gate. There he goes, indeed even if this didn"t happen. She would have sent him there anyway. Yes, there is something she wishes to test. If they are after her knights, and the news of General Teo going to go to the West gets around - then… Lyn sighed; she didn"t want to resort to this. However, those elders do make a point. With General Teo"s age, it"s time for his symptoms to grow to the point beyond control. She extended her hand out towards the sky. What use is this power, if she cannot use it to protect those that are dear to her?
Tell her something Kazuya, is this power something she can use to protect those close to her? The words he said, his smiling face and the way he says her name. Lyn has not forgotten it once.
...
A few hours later.
For the first time in a long time, Queen Lyn did not have anything to do. Out of all the days, this had to happen. Pupillam was visiting her family; her other knights scattered because of the war with the snow kingdom. So she did not have anybody to spar with. So dull. Her thoughts broke off catching a glimpse of someone at the end of the corridor.
"Allen!" Lyn called out.
Allen paused, and Lyn rushed over. "I left you medicine earlier, did you use it?"
"Yes, I did thank you, " she trailed off, "Where are you going?" Lyn noticed that Allen seemed to be in a hurry and he carried several bags.
"My room, I"ll do some paperwork first before playing around and adjusting your medicine.."
"Oh, can I watch?." Lyn asked before she added, "I"m bored."
The indifferent silence that followed indicated that she could do whatever she wanted. So Lyn followed him up the stairs. She made it halfway before having to stop, and he turned and picked her up before resuming. Allen set her down outside his door. She looked around curiously as he opened it.
It was depressingly spa.r.s.e—there was his neat and tidy-made bed, an open closet with a row of similar outfits, a dresser, and that was it. Against the wall was the various equipment he used to make medicine. The only personal item were the gifts Lyn made him a long time ago. All of them looked out of place on the dresser.
"You kept that?"
Allen paused, "There was no logical reason to discard it."
"But there wasn"t a logical reason to keep it, either." Lyn challenged, this lead to Allen sighing deeply. He appeared to give up and walked over to his desk. Lyn sat down on the couch and stared at him. Is he doing work when his injuries are still healing up?
"Say, Allen, when did you learn to make medicine?" Lyn asked curiously.
"When a certain someone felt the need to sneak out of the palace walls and get injured."
She looked at him puzzled, a certain someone? So he did it because of a friend getting injured? It"s unlike him, but she is glad that Allen is getting along with other people now. Lyn chuckled to herself. Sometimes she feels like a mother. Allen sighed then coughed, Lyn watched as his gaze fell on her and her eyes widened.
When Lyn realised her cheeks flushed red, "I don"t climb on walls anymore, " she protested.
Allen chuckled, "I"m sure that"s the case, " he dipped the quill in a new bottle of ink and continued, "But one could only imagine the pain I felt when dealing with a fiance who would not stay put and not act like a lady."
Lyn"s cheeks puffed into a pout, "I thought you fell in love with me at first sight!"
"Yes, I did. I believe this marriage would indeed be worth it."
Lyn looked at him curiously, "Since we"re on this topic, why did you chose me as your engagement partner?"
"I heard many things about you from my brother, during the rare occasions that we dined together. Elegant, graceful words that described the perfect n.o.ble lady. I was a tad bit concerned about the age difference. I was under the impression that you were still a child and even with my brother"s words seek to discover whether or not that was true, which is why I asked to meet you before the arrangement."
Ehhh? Her eyes go wide, and she wanted to inquire, but Allen continued, "My arrival was in secret, and my brother informed me that the guards did not mention a word of my appearance. I wanted to see how you the princess would act naturally. So when they led me to you, I watched you rather carefully. There was something about you that is different from all the other girls. You had an aura of n.o.bility, and yet there was something that seemed to draw me to you. Indeed as my brother informed him you a " Perfect lady", there was no doubt about it from your manners and speech. How you conducted yourself as a leader at a young age was something quite remarkable."
It was rare hearing such compliments from Allen. She ought to take note of this.
"I didn"t want to leave without greeting anybody. So I greeted your father in private and his guards remained outside by the gate waiting for him. " Hoho, I"m glad your curiosity took over you and came over to see for yourself. Indeed she"s an excellent wife for a n.o.ble. However though she may be perfect, you"ll find that she has her own share of imperfections too". is what he told me." Allen said.
"Father said that about me?" Lyn murmured out loud.
Allen smiled. He stopped working and put his pen down and walked over. He took a seat beside her and pulled her closer to him, so Lyn"s head rested on his shoulders.
"I hadn"t realised that I would learn the meaning to those words so quickly. During the night of the formal banquet, when we first met... Your mannerism and behaviour were the same. The seating arrangement puzzled me, but I did not say anything. Then you told me to act as I see fit. I thought this fits what your father meant by imperfections, " Allen trailed off, " But I made a mistake."
Lyn smiled weakly, "The fact that I get lonely easily, have you told anybody?"
"No, there is no need for me too.."
How strange. "Allen, you your not thinking of getting married?" Lyn asked.
"What a direct question, shouldn"t you have more tact when your asking that?"
"You"re probably right. But this is me we"re talking here " Lyn said with a grin. Allen simply shook his head. Since they are on this topic, she might as well. Besides, Lyn wants to know how he convinced the elders to end their engagement too. There are so many things she wants to ask him.
"Your ability to insult yourself is amazing. " Allen trailed of, "There is no need for me to marry anyone and even if I were too, it would be for my kingdoms sake. Not because I have romantic feelings towards them. My heart belongs to one person only and that will, remain unchanged."
… Lyn lifted her head and looked at Allen; who wore his signature indifferent look. She said nothing, truly she wishes this person happiness.
