Chapter 73 The Heart of A Warrior
The area around Dunerk Harbor was still brightly lit, one group of soldiers and militiamen after another started to spread while bringing torches, searching for people who might have escaped. Influenced by Lin Qi and Enzo’s heroic achievements, these soldiers and militiamen had their blood surging all over their bodies, eager to encounter several beastmen and Dark Spirit men so they can kick their a.s.ses.
However, the roads in Dunerk City were as complicated as a spider web. The dispatched soldiers simply couldn’t seal off every street; there would always be some missed small alleys. Especially when these people had high-leveled strength, these ordinary soldiers were even more useless.
The five Dark Spirit men already left Dunerk City. They were standing on top of a hill outside the city, overlooking the city that was filled with flickering lights. They were bare-chested, yet they calmly stood there unmoving in the cold wind and violent snow, as steady as five millennium-old trees that already took root.
After an indeterminate amount of time, a group of torch-carrying Dragon Cavalry rode their horses this way. When they were still several meters from the hill they were standing on, the five Dark Spirit men simultaneously knelt on the ground. They raised their hands to the sky and sang a song that was desolate, heroic, and full of savage aura at the top of their voices. Tears streamed down their faces and was frozen into ice crystals by the cold wind. Their faces were quickly covered in a thick layer of ice.
Cold wind whistled. The mournful sound of the wind was like the roar of demons of the North Sea. The men’s singing voices didn’t travel very far before being engulfed by the sound of the wind. Only after the song ended did the five men slowly got up. The Dark Spirit man whose chest was stabbed by a sword murmured softly, “Hao and the rest of my brothers, let your spirit follow us from heaven, we will bring you home!”
Another man whose stomach was stabbed softly said, “Return home, return to our home, return to the place of our ancestors. There, your spirit and the ancestors’ spirit can sleep together. When we call you out, we can once again fight together!”
The five men simultaneously cup open their left palms, using the blood to draw a strange inscription pattern shaped like the head of a beast in the air in front of them with their right hands. The red inscription patterns in the air shone with faint rays of light as a bizarre force indistinctly spread all around.
Eight extremely thin red lights suddenly soared near Dunerk Harbor. The flickering red lights and the lights of the inscription patterns remotely resonated with one another. The bodies of the five warriors simultaneously rippled with an ancient aura as if an extremely ancient will was possessing their bodies.
The eight thin red lights flickered for a while then disappeared. Specks of sparkling lights converged from all around the five men, revolving once around them before entering their bodies. The five men simultaneously cried three times, then looked up and once again laughed three times before turning around to walk in large strides into the darkness.
The group of approximately one hundred Dragon Cavalry who was ordered to seal off all major roads arrived at the foot of the hill. They didn’t discover any clues so they simply looked for a sheltered place to set up a checkpoint.
The five men left this place early on. They walked south in large strides, striding towards the south in the quickest pace.
Traveling across the entire West Continent, going to the southernmost harbor, and boarding a s.h.i.+p to travel across two thousand meters of ocean to arrive at their homeland. The mystical and beautiful black soil that ma
de people yearn for it day and night; although there were countless sinister creatures on the surface, the heroic, loyal, hot-blooded, and simple Dark Spirit warriors like them were even more numerous.
They left Dunerk, left Arthur. They walked with clear conscience, self-confidence, and open hearts like when they came.
They loudly sang the song handed down by their ancestors along the way. Although the meaning of the ancient song was unknown even to the oldest elder in their family following the pa.s.sage of time, these songs were still pa.s.sed on. Just like their favourite musical instrument, a wooden drum made of old trees of the Dark Spirit Continent, the clear and simple sound continuously resounded within their spirit.
Two years ago, under the summon of the tribe elders, their group chased a group of shameful slave-hunters to the West Continent, chasing them to Dunerk. Those despicable and shameless slave-hunters kidnapped seventy three thousand granddaughters of the elders of the tribe alliance formed by the aboriginal tribes. Those girls were the alliance’s sacred daughters with supreme talent in spiritual techniques who could talk once they were born.
23 ancestral spirit warriors closest to the alliance headquarters were summoned. They accepted the elders’ order to chase and kill.
However, those slave-hunters were powerful. They hadn’t been able to deal with the other side until Dunerk. When the other side boarded the people they wanted to rescue on a big s.h.i.+p and was going to sail to Odin Ice Origin, they already despaired. Their honor as warrior couldn’t allow them to fail. They already decided, if they couldn’t rescue those respectable sacred daughters, they would fight to the death.
A turn for the better always came in a quick and strange way. Arthur ran into this group of powerful and simple warriors. By utilizing Black Tiger Family’s connections, Arthur effortlessly exchanged their sacred daughters from the hands of those slave-hunters.
Part of the group escorted the sacred daughters to return to the tribe while the rest accepted Arthur as their master, using the name of the ancestral spirit to pledge their lives to him.
But today, they already fulfilled their oaths. Eight of their comrades fought to the death, furthermore they chose the method of igniting their souls and longevity to fight to the death. They already completed their oaths so they walked with clear conscience and open hearts! They wanted to escort the spirit of their comrades to return to their homeland. They wanted to let the spirit of their comrades to sleep peacefully in their ancestral tomb.
Their comrades chose such majestic and honorable deaths so they have to escort the spirit of their comrades home.
Bare-chested and with their backs facing the wind and snow, they went southward. Just like when they came, they have to cross over a continent, cross over the ocean. In the distance of thousands of meters was their homeland. In that place, there were fertile black soil that produced oil with one pinch, countless majestic beasts, countless tall trees, also their beloved women.
The people of that place were simple and honest, the people of that place had minds as broad as the sky, the people of that place… wouldn’t be so scheming like Arthur and the others!
“Brothers, we’re going home! Just follow us, follow us home, by all means don’t get lost on the way home!”
The man whose stomach was stabbed by a sword laughed at the top of his voice.
The other four men also started to laugh. Got lost? How could they? Men born on the black soil wouldn’t forget their way home even in death!
Amidst the sound of laughter, the ruby in the man’s belt suddenly became incomparably hot. A ball of dazzling red light burned through the man’s belt.
Before the man came to, twelve complicated inscription patterns appeared on the surface of the ruby then a red light soared to the sky.
A huge and terrible explosion. The hills and forests within two hundred meters were razed and burned to ashes by the red light.
The smiles of the five men froze on their faces. Their bodies vanished completely within the terrifying high-temperature.
