Chapter 2322: Forging
As everyone watched curiously, Sam carefully forged the Umbryxium.
After heating the pieces sufficiently, he started hammering them out in the shape of the components that he has designed. The shape and basic measures like length and width are all the same. However, the thickness of these components that he beat out of the Umbryxium didn"t match the design he drew.
Which made everyone even more curious.
Another peculiar thing they observed is that, after a component is shaped out and had just enough heat that its malleability is very close to its cold usual state, Sam placed his hand over it and used his metal element along with his manipulation ability.
n.o.body knew what exactly he was doing like that.
Since the metal itself is very malleable and easy to beat into shape, he managed to finish the components very quickly. He laid all of them on the table in their positions. Now, he needs to work on each weapon separately.
The first thing he went after is the long sword.
That could probably be the easiest and fastest thing that he could do at the moment.
He already placed a metal in the furnace. It is also a rare metal. As for why no one had any reaction like they did when he used the Umbryxium? Because this metal with all its rarity looks like a common iron ore.
The color, texture and even some of the reactions it has to come of the common tests are all the same as regular iron ore. However, this metal is called Soul Steel.
Forming this ore is extremely difficult and it is mostly available in the areas where death energy is rampant and a lot of specters reside. The formation of the soul steel as an ore is the same as an iron ore.
However, during the early stages if the surroundings of that area are filled with specters, and if those specters failed to get away from there and their soul energy dissipates in to the surroundings, then the ore in its infancy will absorb this energy.
So, most of the time this appears in the battlefields from long long ago. That is the only clear sign to find out the location of the metal. There are no other clues or tricks.
This is also one of the findings of the Dusk. Not just one or two, they found dozens of mines over the realms. It seems spreading far and wide had its own advantages.
He started forging the soul steel. He made two think blades out of it. The blades are of course of same length and width as his original design. Just like how he made a thin blade out of Umbryxium, he made it with this as well.
After those blades are ready, he placed them in a furnace of much lower temperature, meanwhile he heated the Umbryxium blade to a certain extent. After the soul steel blades and Umbryxium blades reached the desired temperature, he took them.
He sandwiched the Umbryxium with the Soul steel and beat them together. After they became one blade, he heated it once again before placing his hand on it and using his metal element in that heated state.
After the blade including its tang are done, he made it levitate to cool down. Just to make sure it doesn"t come into contact with anything else until it is ready for its final treatment.
With the remaining soul steel, made a few components of the crossbow and a bunch of bolts. Next for the main body of the crossbow, he took out some rhino gold. He made it into powdered state, created some moulds in which he placed the thin Umbryxium body and then filled the rest with the rhino gold powder.
The Rhino gold is known for its heat resistance, cold resistance, deformation, etc.
And the crossbow he designed is one the knight could wear on his arm. With the way he designed it he can attach it smoothly on the arm guard.
Once he put the mould in the furnace and made it solifiy together, the main part is ready. He also made these levitate around him.
Now, the shield, he took some more rhino gold and made two layers with it. He sandwiched the Umbryxium in between these two layers, similar to how he did with the sword. Once again, he did his metal element thing.
Even though Sam appeared like he is moving fast, it has been three hours by the time he is done with it. He is sweating all over, and panting slightly. His arm muscles are aching a bit as well. However, relatively, he is way ahead of the rest of the compet.i.tors.
Even though all of them started forging, some of them are still correcting their own design flaws which they didn"t think of earlier as they forged.
Meanwhile, Sam took another rare metal.
This one is rarer than the above two. The void stone metal. This metal... Sam didn"t obtain from the Dusk rather, this is what he exploited from the Academy realm"s students as part of the ransom. The specialty of this metal is that it can only be obtained in two places.
One is from the special meteorites that landed on some planet and the other is the core of a dying planet.
Sam has yet to come across either of them.
This one has very unique properties. The shock absorption in particular is off the charts compared to any other metal he ever came across. If not for the fact Sam held the heir of one of the largest clans in the n.o.ble league as his hostage, he wouldn"t have been able to use it. Looking at the void stone metal in Sam"s hands, a huge fervor went through the crowd.
Sam even took off the outer robe and stood there bare chested as he started banging the metal. The Void stone metal is also hard to forge and the more it is closer to the plastic state (A state from which the metal doesn"t undergo any deformation without breaking), it is the hardest it could ever be.
To reach that plastic state, he needs to place this at the utmost stress.
He cannot just use other tricks like he did with the Rhino gold and Soul Steel.
Once again, he made two thin layers of each component of the armor. This one is also black color, so the three layers of the black components are forged together.
He once again did his metal element thing with these components as well.
If the first few components took three hours, this armor alone took almost four. Luckily, he didn"t add many minor components or some complicated designs, otherwise who knows how
long it will
take.
There is still around seven hours before midnight.
Sam hovered them around in the air as he waited them all to cool down. Once they he is done, he placed them all on the wooden table in their positions. Now, is the final step.
Even though Sam"s forging process is refined and did really good, the components are not looking that great at the moment.
The sandwiched metals are looking a bit odd with varying textures.
And, even though the layers he made were very thing, combined together they didn"t look
that refined and even had an appearance of being a bit bulky.
With a wave of his hand, Sam removed all four legs of the table and made it land on the
ground gently.
He then sat on the ground facing the components. With a wave of his hand, several s.p.a.ce jades appeared in front of him.
He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. His body started glowing with a golden flare while the metal components started levitating just a couple of inches above the table.
They still had a decent distance between each of them and wouldn"t interfere with each
other"s process.
The golden light around Sam intensified as he condensed it. It is the light element and with extreme concentration it can generate enough heat to rival any flame that they could obtain
here.
At the same time, a streak of blood flew out of each s.p.a.ce jade he placed. The blood is unusually thicker and denser than the normal blood of any kind. Each streak also had different
tone and texture.
Soon, the metal components heated up to the level Sam required it to.
He then started moving the streaks to them. Each streak split into multiple smaller streaks
and the blood soon wrapped around each metal.
The armor components were all wrapped with one type of metal, the sword has one type, the bolts of a different type and the crossbow body and the shield are of different type.
Each blood has its own characteristics.
With the intense heat the blood started evaporating, but there is a continuous supply of it coming from the s.p.a.ce jades and wrapping around the components.
That is at least what everyone else could see from his actions. However, behind the scenes there is something else happening. Something no one could see or guess. Along with the light element, Sam is using his metal element as well and it is on the blood. While the blood is heated, he is concentrating to separate the blood iron from. That heated blood iron is being forcefully speed through these components. They are
merging and bonding with the layers. With the added heat and Sam"s manipulation, all of it is
turning into one alloy.
Each blood is extracted from different species, giving the resultant blood iron unique
characteristics.
Even until the hour before midnight, Sam just sat there and kept on doing what he was doing. Meanwhile, the rest forged their sets, and are doing the finishing touches.
