Rebirth Of Abium

Chapter 25: Disguise

Chapter 25: Disguise

Abium reached Barefoot town gate in two hours after he separated from Hemarc. The entrance to the town was like the gate of a large city. The walls of either side of the gate bent like the castle walls.

At the gate of the town, he noticed. Horses, along with soldiers, stood in lines. Many soldiers started to ignite the torches placed on the fortress wall. There was tight security even to enter the town. When he saw these atmospheres, there became little hesitation and tingling in his mind warning him to stay away.

"I have a hunch something important is going to happen. Guess I came here at the wrong time again, d.a.m.n it!"

He cursed at his luck and decided to come up with a strategy to enter the town without using his name.

"Well, I don"t know what happened in the past around this time. But I believe it got something to do with the crown prince."

He shook those thoughts from his mind and used the ident.i.ty of someone he remembers from the memory to enter the city. He used the name called Thallan. Within a few minutes, he got out of the verification area and let out a sigh of relief.

Once entering the town, he directly moved towards the fortress.

Abium was also very close to Baron"s son Nicolaus in the past. He knew Nicolaus was a laid-back person, and Abium"s first purpose was to make him completely believe him as Thallan, who was also a half-elf. Abium didn"t mind using Thallan"s ident.i.ty because the Wadol kingdom soldiers would soon imprison him. It would take at least a few months to know the cause of his disappearance.

On one side, Abium was very eager to find about what was happening inside that fortress. But, at the entrance of that opened gate, soldiers were holding spears and swords kept watching vigilantly. He immediately guessed their strength with scan function, that most of them were more or less second-tier warriors.

Abium thought if he stood there hesitating, then those soldiers would block him and might inquire him. With that in mind, he began to walk inside the fortress. But to his bad luck, two soldiers stood in front of the entrance blocked him using their spears. One of them stared at Abium; meanwhile, another man brought fire and lift it straight towards his face.

With a fit of anger on his face, he asked them.

"Is this your town"s tradition? To stop the guests at the door ....?"

"Who are you? Where are you from?" asked the gatekeeper.

"Are you asking for my hometown? I am a friend of Baron"s son. Do you have anything to say?" he replied in an annoying tone.

He knew Thallan"s little brother Navarre. He was a wood elf, also a close friend of Baron"s son since childhood. Both graduated in the Elven knight inst.i.tute. But, Nicolaus hadn"t seen Thallan and only heard about his adventures from Navarre. So, Abium could only use Thallan as his name. The half-elf look gave Abium a perfect chance to build a story with the prior knowledge.

"Don"t try to fool us with some nonsense. No one will believe you." said one of the gatekeepers when hearing that others began to laugh at Abium.

"No matter who you are, you can"t go in! Today"s guests have arrived already. The Lord commanded us not to let anyone inside anymore!" Said the guard captain.

Some soldiers approached his direction from little distance inside the fort to see what was going on.

Abium thought in his mind.

"Shall I go back? Or shall I go inside using that n.o.ble sealed recommendation letter that Baron gave it to me."

Mockeries from Margrave"s soldiers fell on his ears. He immediately decided what to do.

"Don"t block the way. I will go back," he said. Then surrounding soldiers moved a little away.

He moved back a little, and at the same time, he suddenly took his sword from his sheath and imbued his mana into it. The sword, which caught the eyes with lightning, seemed to rotate with fast speed in his hand.

Immediately he slashed towards his left side using one of his skills and untied the nearby horses. Next, he attacked the nearby Iron Gate with full force, which caused sudden noise. Those horses began to run towards inside the fortress due to that immediate chaos and noise.

The soldiers who stood on the way were thrown down along with their spears. A horse went directly towards the soldier who mocked at him and kicked him away.

Due to that unexpected action, every guard ran in a different direction. Meanwhile, Abium mounted on a horse from the left side and rode towards inside the fortress. He knew this reckless idea might help him to make Nicolaus believe him without the need for any explanation.

Many other things take place within that fraction of seconds. The gates of the fort closed with a loud bang.

"Capture him! Capture him!" outcry arose from several soldiers.

"Clang" sound echoed as spears and swords pointed towards his direction. And the announcement of warning sound echoed inside the fortress.

Soldiers surrounded the horses one by one and began to chase after it.

There was a total of forty to fifty soldiers surrounding him within a few moments.

Swirling the sword in his hand, he shouted, "Nicolaus! Nicolaus! I am Navarre"s brother! Your soldiers are trying to kill me! I only came here to help you with that, Maze."

The soldiers around him were startled and a little hesitant.

At that time, from the roof of that fortress,

"What is that, ruckus? Stop!" A booming thunderbolt voice echoed. Seven to eight peoples stood on the roof and watching the scene.

"Lord! Some guy broke into our fort without permission. He was also shouting our young master"s name," one of the guards stepped forward and said.

"Nicolaus! Go and look at what is the ruckus about!" the same booming voice came from the roof. Abium thought the sound was Baron Tibbott.

He and the other soldiers around him stood there for a while.

"What"s the ruckus here?" a young voice echoed. Those who stood at the place stepped out of their way, and a young warrior rushed through it. The warrior looked at Abium, who swung the sword in his hand and narrowed his eyes.

"Have we met before?" that young Nicolaus came closer to him and asked him in puzzlement.

"I am Navarre"s Elder brother, Thallan. My younger brother told me to help you regarding the mysterious maze."

"Oh yeah! I nearly forgot about that request. He told me his elder brother was a reckless and brave adventurer. But can"t you normally enter inside the fortress just using my name."

"I already told them, but they didn"t even listen to my words," Abium muttered in a casual tone and sighed in relief inside his mind. He planned on using Thallan as his name for the time being. If he accompanied by Helena or any other humans, it might look more suspicious.

Elves naturally won"t mingle themselves with humans or any other races. Especially Thallan from his memory, he knew thallan hates humans because some humans were abducting many different races and enslaving them.

Abium remembered why Thallan was sent here to help Nicolaus using the prior knowledge. So he continued his talk.

"Navarre told me you lost something precious inside that maze. I may help you because I explored these types" mysterious ruins many times. But first, I need more time to research and study that area."

Immediately Abium glanced at his surroundings and shrugged his shoulder.

Nicolaus smiled at him, then shouted towards the soldiers.

"Fools! Go away! He is my guest."

Then he grabbed Abium"s hand and dragged him away from there towards the fortress while thinking.

"Idiot Navarre! Why didn"t you told me earlier about sending your half-brother here? I need to keep this crazy guy away from others; otherwise, he will do some wild things once again."

While both were walking inside the fortress, Abium exclaimed, "Nicolaus! What is this banquet for? Why there is so much security?"

Suddenly Nicolaus felt chill all over his body. He calmed himself and replied in nervous tone while glancing at Abium"s expression from time to time.

"E-Elder brother, even if you know there will be no use to you. My father told me this was an important gathering that may change the kingdom"s future. Other than that, I knew nothing. Also, stay away from those guests, okay! We will talk about that maze in detail later!" Nicolaus informed him and escorted Abium to the inner fort.

When entering Abium noticed, many women were chattering everywhere. Once both went inside, he saw Nicolaus"s mom and greeted her.

A beautiful girl was shyly hiding behind Nicolaus"s mother and glancing at him from time to time. He gave her a weird look and thought it must be Nicolaus"s younger sister.

In the past, Abium heard a lot about Nicolaus"s sister from him, but when looking at her in upfront, he was a little disappointed. In the past, he met with Nicolaus two years after the arrival of chaos era. Both became best friends quickly and completed some missions together. Nicolaus was one of the people who wouldn"t care much about n.o.ble eloquent.

Abium"s eyes wandered around to find out who might be the girl in that red carriage.

When two of them came out from that room, suddenly a women"s voice shouted.

"Nicolaus! Nicolaus!"

Nicolaus looked back and went inside while warning to him,

"Mother is calling for me. Stay here! Don"t wander anywhere!"

Voices of several women asking him many questions, and Nicolaus"s replied in stuttering tone fell on his ears.

He thought they were laughing and teasing about him, which suddenly made him feel a little angry.

After a few minutes, Nicolaus came out, and he grabbed Abium"s hand then said,

"Come on, big brother! let"s go and look for a spare room for you!"

While both are moving towards the fort grand hall, Abium asked in an annoying tone.

"Nicolaus! When I stopped outside the door, and you went in again, I heard there were only laughs and giggles. What"s so special?"

He looked at him then chuckled and said,

"Don"t worry, Elder brother; they don"t laugh at you! You know Margrave Eliot, right? After all these years he married a new young girl. He also brought her here to attend this banquet. More than that, he locked her up in his room and didn"t let any others approach her. They are laughing about that!"

Abium got curious about that girl and asked: "How long has it been Since Eliot to marry this mysterious beauty?"

"I think it"s around two years. Some say that Margrave was always keeping her near all the time since he got married! Wherever he goes, he takes her along with him. Maybe he thought she would run away. There has been some mock talk around the country about their relationship. I also want to see how beautiful she is."

Abium suddenly found more interesting because, in the past, he also heard much about her. Some say she was a bewitching queen, while some say she was a princess from a neighboring country. But no one knew her real ident.i.ty except that Margrave.

He also remembered after his death, which occurred during n.o.ble"s banquet a few months later, she too disappeared without even a trace.

"That"s not the reason. Let me tell you the real reason. That girl looks like pure gold. So every other woman doesn"t like her. That is the reason they mock at them."

Nicolaus stared at him and said, "Why do I feel like you knew so much about that girl big bro? Okay! Let"s stop talking about that matter, and we soon have to find a room for you. I hope you promise me not to wander around, brother."

Abium smiled at him then nodded his head to the request.

Suddenly, He heard a rhythm of music from outside. Drums, flute, and other instruments sounded together.

"What slogan is this?" Abium returned his gaze towards Nicolaus and asked.

"I think the banquet is going to start! It"s a tradition to play dance and other dramas while at the banquet."

Suddenly he recalled what Hemarc said about those dances and dramas. Without hesitation Abium replied

"I also want to see. I never saw any banquet dances and dramas in my lifetime."

Nicolaus nodded his head, and both moved walked towards few feet, and after a turn, they saw the stages appeared within their visions. The congregation has also begun in front of the stage.

Surrounded by walls and fortress, in the s.p.a.cious courtyard, covered with white sand, the stage was laid out. When all the chief guests arrived, they worshipped in the congregation and began to sing and dance.

Abium slowly watched those dances and dramas without even blinking his eyes. He attended the dances and those dramas about the war in awe.

When the drama was going, Margrave glanced at Baron, viscount Raoul and then other important guests glanced at each other. Their red eyes talked to one another without others noticing.

Then Baron signaled the head captain to finish the show. Within a few minutes, all stopped their dances and packed their belongings to move away.

The congregation dissolved in silence; somewhere outside at that time, the wolves howling sounds heard. Abium disturbed by all these, then suddenly, he looked at the direction where he listened to the howls of wolves. There, he saw a head placed on the wall of that ma.s.sive fortress. He instantly knew it was Hemarc"s head.
