Chapter 2317: Lousy Lawyer (3)
If w.a.n.g Yang insisted on going through with the lawsuit, it would only mean that his filial piety toward Zhu Chengqi hadn’t meant much. In fact, it would only be right for him to follow Zhu Chengqi’s will.
Therefore, whether one saw it from the perspective of reason or emotion, Qiao Nan would always win. It would never be on w.a.n.g Yang’s side.
The final verdict held no surprise to anyone who was familiar with the law. It went without saying that Qiao Nan had won. That way, all of the Zhu family’s a.s.sets had been ruled to Qiao Nan alone. Without Qiao Nan’s permission, no one would be able to touch a single cent of those a.s.sets, even her husband, let alone w.a.n.g Yang. Zhu Chengqi’s will had clearly stated that he intended for all of his a.s.sets to go to Qiao Nan alone. w.a.n.g Yang couldn’t touch it, and neither could Zhai Sheng.
w.a.n.g Yang’s lawyer was not in the least bit surprised by the outcome. “Mr. w.a.n.g, are you intending on appealing against the decision?” Mr. w.a.n.g had previously mentioned that he would never give up even after the ruling had been pa.s.sed and intended on appealing until he got back everything that belonged to the Zhu family.
The lawyer had no desire to continue with this business. If there had been any chance of winning the lawsuit, he would never have given up so easily. But continuing with this lawsuit would only be a waste of his client’s money and time. Because he knew that it was impossible to win, the lawyer didn’t want w.a.n.g Yang to waste his money on trying to get the Zhu family’s inheritance.
“Of course, I’ll appeal against it. Why wouldn’t I? I’m not satisfied with this verdict. Qiao Nan has nothing to do with the Zhu family while I’m Zhu Chengqi’s only nephew. I was the one who supported him in his old age because his son was dead. When he was ill, I was the one taking care of him too. What was Qiao Nan doing during that time? Did Qiao Nan stay by Zhu Chengqi’s side to take care of him? No. She did nothing at all! So, why should she be able to get all of the Zhu family’s a.s.sets? What right does she have to do that? This is too unfair!”
Ever since he was a child, he had always heard that n.o.body could gain anything without putting in any effort. That was why he had tried his best to get his maternal grandma’s family to like him. He knew that Zhu Baoguo was especially spoiled. As such, he had put on a false pretense of being obedient to grab everyone’s attention.
Zhu Baoguo was nothing but a stumbling block to him. But that didn’t matter. He had found a way to get rid of that stumbling block, turning it into a stepping stone instead. He deserved all of the Zhu family’s a.s.sets after all that effort he had put in, so why had the court ruled everything to Qiao Nan? How could Qiao Nan be so bold as to accept it? Did she have no shame?
Seeing that w.a.n.g Yang had lost his senses and had become slightly abnormal, the lawyer patiently tried to give him a word of advice. “Mr. w.a.n.g, I think there’s no point in fighting this lawsuit any longer. We already tried using the kins.h.i.+p card today. But I’m sure we all heard the final result earlier. Mr. w.a.n.g, you should understand that it’s best to stop when it’s still possible to keep your losses to a minimum.”
He would still be paid if they continued with the lawsuit.
But the lawyer knew that there was no way w.a.n.g Yang would ever get the Zhu family’s inheritance. In that case, he would only be wasting his money on this lawsuit. Because the lawyer knew that he would not be of much help to w.a.n.g Yang anymore, he had given w.a.n.g Yang some sincere advice.
But the decision lay in w.a.n.g Yang’s hands. All he could do was offer a suggestion because of his conscience. Whether or not w.a.n.g Yang was willing to take up that suggestion, and what he decided to do after that depended entirely on w.a.n.g Yang.
“No! I want to fight this lawsuit! Why shouldn’t I?!”
If he gave up on this lawsuit, all of the Zhu family’s a.s.sets would definitely become Qiao Nan’s. As long as he continued with the lawsuit, he could apply to freeze all of those a.s.sets. That way, Qiao Nan wouldn’t be able to spend a cent. He would never let Qiao Nan use anything that was supposed to be his.
Since w.a.n.g Yang insisted on going on with the lawsuit, the lawyer had no other choice. “I have other things to deal with today. Since you’ve decided to continue with the lawsuit, let’s discuss it further next time.” The lawyer had already guessed that his kindness wouldn’t be reciprocated with grat.i.tude. In fact, w.a.n.g Yang might even decide to get a new lawyer instead.
Losing cases affected their reputations as lawyers. It was unwise for him to insist on taking on this case for the sake of money. What if he ruined his reputation in the process? After all, which client would engage a lawyer with a losing streak?
He was in it for the long run as a lawyer. He wasn’t just after this business deal.
Because he was clear of that, he would have to consider carefully whether he would still want to partic.i.p.ate in the next court session, even if w.a.n.g Yang didn’t take the initiative to fire him. Thankfully, the lawyer had been liberated because of w.a.n.g Yang’s att.i.tude.
He would never have accepted this case if not for his friends.h.i.+p with w.a.n.g Yang. After all, he had already known that they would surely lose the case from the very beginning. Now that w.a.n.g Yang was no longer willing to work with him, he felt that he had to thank the heavens that w.a.n.g Yang was willing to let him off the hook this time.
After bidding Li Yayan goodbye, the lawyer took his leave.
Li Yayan was still in a daze. The moment the ruling was pa.s.sed, Li Yayan couldn’t help but think about her nightmare from the previous night. She pinched herself so hard that a bruise formed.
What delighted Li Yayan was that a bruise had formed, but she had not felt a thing. Did that mean she was in a dream? Had she not awoken from that nightmare? Yes, that had to be the case. This was only a nightmare. As soon as she woke up, everything would be over.
“Madam, doesn’t it hurt when you pinch yourself so hard?” The person sitting beside Li Yayan frowned upon seeing her actions, even though Li Yayan had not had any reaction to it. “Madam, don’t be so harsh to yourself. It’s all bruised.” If she had pinched herself with her fingernails, she would have perforated the skin!
“And could you excuse me? I want to get out.” Li Yayan was blocking his way.
Li Yayan leaned over, allowing the man to leave his seat. Then, she couldn’t help but touch her bruise. Immediately, she hissed. It hurt!
“Dear?” As w.a.n.g Yang walked over to Li Yayan, she staggered and finally stood up while grabbing onto the back of the chair in front of her. “We-we…” It hurt in one moment and didn’t the next. So, did that mean that she was awake? Or was she still asleep?
