Chapter 39: 2 Vs 30000 Part Four
The morning sun s.h.i.+ned down through the tree canopies. The sounds of footsteps echoed out through the forest. There were no sounds of birds or any other animals that you would hear early in the morning. The sound of soldiers pus.h.i.+ng their way towards Kana and Ceilie scared away any low-level monsters. As for Kana and Ceilie, they were outside the cave staring off into the distance. "We can set these traps like this."
The two only got a few hours of sleep last night. They ended up spending half the night setting up traps along the cliffs walls that Ceilie could activate with an arrow. She no longer needed to use human crafted arrows since she could now create them with magic. After many hours of setting up traps here and there, Kana and Ceilie dug a few trenches just outside the cave for cover and used the dried gra.s.s and some spare clothes to make a dummy of Ceilie. Covering the entire dummy in a cloak to make it less noticeable.
"We can only do this much..." Ceilie knew this was a life or death battle, and she worried things would end up bad. "Kana, if things get to the point where we will die. I want you to run as fast as you can and get away. You are the first dragon to appear in hundreds of years. I won"t let you die here. I will do everything I can to break open an escape route for you when the time comes."
Ceilie knew they would no longer try to capture her now that she looked like a demi human. They would just think she was some random demi human who happened to be pa.s.sing by, and the real Ceilie ran away, leaving the dragon alone. They would target her to kill and then try to take Kana back. But if they began feeling pressured, they may change plans and just outright attack Kana to kill.
Kana felt how much Ceilie cared about her, which made Kana"s eyes begin to water. She walked over to Ceilie and hugged her. "I won"t leave you. If we are to die, we can die together..."
Kana already died once. She didn"t want to die, but now that Ceilie and her were like sisters, she would not leave Ceilie to die while she ran away. Kana would not be able to live with herself if that was the case.
"Kana, if things get bad, I want you to grab hold of Ceilie. I will use the last of my power to send you both away from here..." Lysairth knew that by using all her power, she would disappear for good. But she did not want these two to die here. Especially not Kana. And since Kana was not willing to leave Ceilie behind to escape, then there was no other choice but to save them both.
"Lysairth?" Kana was slightly confused. "What did Lysairth mean by the last of her power?"
"Dear, I have already died long ago. So me disappearing is a normal thing, and eventually, one day, I will end up disappearing once my energy finally dries up. Using it to save what could be the last of my kind is well worth it. It would give great meaning to my life." Lysairth said softly.
"But..." Kana was on the verge of tears; everyone was talking about sacrificing themselves for her. She did not want to lose anyone! She did not want to lose those close to her! She saw Lysairth as her new mom and Ceilie as her big sister! She did not want to lose any of them no matter what! "We just have to win, right? I just have to kill all the humans so we can be free from this mess, right?"
Kana"s words shocked Lysairth. She was a silly girl who was very gullible and cute. Sometimes she was serious, and sometimes she was a clown. But at times like this, she was able to give some hope. Lysairth could feel Kana"s determination. But the fact that they were up against so many still made Lysairth worry. But Lysairth still nodded as she said: "Mmm! We just need to win!"
"Right, we just need to win!" Kana suddenly yelled out, startling Ceilie.
"Kana!?" Ceilie looked down at Kana, who stopped hugging her.
"Ceilie, we will win! We will get through this together! No matter what happens, we will be together. We are a team, a family! I could never abandon you just like you won"t abandon me! If you tell me to run away, I will ignore it all and fight to my last breath. So to not allow ourselves to fall into such a situation like that, we only need to win!" Kana shouted with great determination.
Her fiery spirit to win began to rub off on Ceilie. "Your right. We only need to win! We will slaughter all humans who dare to harm us!"
After being riled up by Kana, a strange chant began to echo through the caveā¦
"Slaughter all humans!"
"Slaughter all humans!"
"Slaughter all humans!"
"Slaughter all humans!"
As the front line got near the cave, they all could hear this strange chant as it echoed out of the cave and through the narrow entrance leading to the cave. These men all began to s.h.i.+ver and quickly went on guard, looking all around them. "Ghost!?"
This question was what was on all the minds of those who heard the chanting. The way Kana and Ceilie"s voices bounced off the cliff walls stretched out their voice, creating a ghostly tone to their chant.
