Total silence, awkwardness, and stiffness of the person that is front of him are all that is currently happening. The moment Anna"s eyes landed on Elijah, Elijah knew right away that Anna is not ready to face him yet.Even though he didn"t like people who are not prepared for any situation, it does not change the fact that he did not give Anna much time to prepare herself. All in all, Anna is not the one who he is disappointed at, he"s disappointed at himself for being impulsive in his decision.
"There is no need to be that stiff, Anna."
When Anna heard that, she flinched. She expected him to speak, but she is surprised to hear him be the first one to start the conversation.
"I"m sorry to have you meet with me all this way." He said, and that made Anna look at him in a daze. She never would have thought Elijah Robertson would be apologizing to her today.
"N-No. It"s alright." Behind those words, Anna is saying that it"s not alright. She"s inwardly complaining to him on why he wanted to meet her out of the blue. She"s not prepared to face him yet, and clearly, he knows that. "Is he messing with me?" Anna inwardly asked.
"It"s not alright. However, I do not regret calling you all the way here out of the blue." Elijah requested to meet Anna all the way here is because he wants to talk to her as soon as possible before he changes his mind.
Since it has come to this, Anna would rather get straight to the point and ask him right away what is the purpose of this sudden meeting. "Why did you call me here?"
"I want to talk to you about Kyle." Elijah"s voice was calm and Anna does not know how to react to that. She can"t sense that he"s angry nor displeased at her. It"s supposed to be a good sign, but Anna is not feeling it.
"K-Kyle?" Just hearing the name of the man Anna is attracted to, Anna feels nervous. She is now afraid of whatever comes out of Elijah"s mouth. "Is he gonna tell me that he wants me to distance myself away from Kyle?"
Anna is panicking on the inside, but she"s keeping her face straight intact. She won"t let Elijah see that she"s panicking or else, he"s going to have another not-so-good opinion about her. "I don"t want him to have another opinion about me."
"Yes." Elijah stared at Anna"s face, then he sighed. "I"m not here to tell you whatever you might be thinking. I"m here to say that I am sorry for how I look at your family."
The Colemans" motto has always been about their family and looking at their family the way he did back then was a crime against them. He is lucky that Marcus is not sending any a.s.sa.s.sins to kill him. The Robertsons might be the number one in the business world, but the Coleman is the number one in the underground organization world.
The skills of every person that works under the Coleman family"s organization are top-notch. The Robertson"s can"t compete with that, even if they try, they won"t stand a chance.
Startled by the sudden apologetic words, Anna didn"t know how to respond to it. She is not even sure if Elijah Robertson is even serious or not. "I-I"m sorry, but I don"t think I understand what you are trying to say here."
"For the longest time, I hated everyone in your family. Although I made a promise to your grandfather I won"t hate the generation after him, I still could not help myself. I continue to hate his son and you and your brother." The promise that he made that none of them will involve the generation after them.
Marcus the good man in their story. Marcus managed not to hate Elijah"s son and grandchildren. Realizing that fact just a few days ago, Elijah is ashamed to face any Coleman family members. But here he is now, he is facing the young girl who has captured his grandson"s heart.
"Do you know why I hated your family so deeply that I even tried to stop my grandson to chase after you?" Elijah asked.
"You hated my family because of the misunderstanding of what happened to your sister." Anna hesitated on mentioning Elijah"s sister, but what can she do? He asked the question she is here to answer it.
"Misunderstanding. Yeah, that"s right." Elijah laughed as he repeated the word "misunderstanding," he can"t believe that he almost made a move to get in between his grandson and Anna just because of that misunderstanding. He wasn"t rational, he has driven himself emotionally, and he is ashamed of it.
Anna didn"t know what to say after hearing Elijah"s laugh. She can tell that he is agonizing about something and that something is related to his later sister. "Why did he even mention his sister if he"s going to hurt himself?" Anna inwardly asked.
"My sister was my person and I was her person. She and I were always there for each other no matter what. We confide on each other, we brutally speak the truth on each other, and most of all, we protect each other"s back. When I saw dead laying on the floor, I... that moment, I felt that half of my being was taken away." Elijah looks down at his hands and he bitterly, remembering the last moment he held his sister in his hands. Then he looks at Anna and asked her a question. "What is your brother to you?"
For one minute, Anna only stared at Elijah. She"s not searching for an answer with her mind because she already knows the answer to that question by heart.
With a bright smile plastered on her face, Anna answered the question. "Just like you, he"s my person. If I had to choose between Kyle and my brother, then my answer would be straightforward, I choose my brother. We have been together since the very beginning of our lives, inside of our mother"s womb, and I would not mind ending my life together with him as long as there are no regrets."
Anna may be distant from her brother in their past life, but she can never imagine her without her brother. If he had been the first one to die before anyone else in her past life, Anna imagined that she might have tried to kill herself. That is how important her brother is to her.
"I see." Elijah smiled. He completely understands where Anna is coming from. "So, Kyle is number two then." He added teasingly.
Hearing the last part that he just said, Anna became fl.u.s.tered. "N-No. I-I don"t mean it that way. If ever so happens that my brother is wrong, then I would choose Kyle. But in some circ.u.mstances, there would be-"
"Enough." Elijah cut her off, and she immediately closes her mouth. "There is no need for you to explain, Anna. I completely understand you. And don"t you worry, I won"t tell Kyle that he is placed second in your life."
For some reason, Anna does not have much confidence believing that Elijah will be keeping what she just said a secret from Kyle.
"I sure do hope I can count on you on that, Mr. Robertson," Anna spoke with an awkward smile.
"Grandpa Elijah." He said.
"Excuse me?" Anna asked. Not getting the point Elijah is making.
"Well, if you and Kyle are going to be together a long time, I suggest that you better start practicing calling me Grandpa Elijah. It"s better that way. I don"t want us calling each other like strangers."

Not so far away from Elijah and Anna, there is two people who are watching and trying to eavesdrop on the conversation Elijah and Anna are having right at this moment. "What do you think they are talking about, brother?"
"I don"t know. I"m trying to read their lips, but it"s no use."
"This is so annoying. I want to know what they are talking about. But I can"t hear a thing! Why are we sitting here? Why can"t we just sit two tables away from them?"
"Lannie, if we do that Anna and our grandfather will notice us. Both you and I don"t want to get in trouble, right?" Just like Lannie, Kyle also wants to know everything that Anna and Elijah were talking about. He"s trying to understand them by reading their lips, but it seems like it"s not giving him any good results.
The reason why the Robertson siblings are here at the cafe is because of the fact that their grandfather called out Anna to talk. The first child, Kyle, is somewhat afraid that Anna might get hurt while the second child, Lannie, is afraid that her grandfather might say something that will cause Anna to back away from her brother.
In case of any of their wild imaginations might happen, both siblings are present to stop it.
