Chapter 26: Urgent QuestWhen we returned to town, we go straight to the guild to report about the success of the quest, as well as handling the purchase of the materials, which is the ogre’s horns and monster cores. It seems like since they looks humanoid, I heard that their meat is not normally bought. I think I’ve heard that some people in j.a.pan even eat monkeys.
The total number of ogres subjugated are 15. The horns collected from the normal ogres amount to 12, while from the Yellow and Red Ogre totaled to 6. It seems that the number of horns increased for the high rank. The total amount sold for the horns are 18 small silver coins.
Since the reward for completing the quest are 2 gold coins, our total profits are 2 gold and 1 silver coins, as well as 8 small silver coins. When we go to the bulletin board to look at what quest we should do next, the guild suddenly becomes noisy.
When an adventurer-looking man came with a fast horse rushed to the counter and speaks with the receptionist, the receptionist heads inside with a startled expression.
“I wonder if something happened?”
“I have no idea”
The other adventurers seems to be anxious too. While we were thinking about that strange thing, an old dignified person appeared from the interior, and begin to announce something:
“An urgent quest has been created. I want all the adventurers in this place, as well as all of their party members to partic.i.p.ate. The rank doesn’t matter!”
Urgent quest. This is a first for me. I recalled the pamphlet called 『Guild’s Rule~』 when I first joined the guild. According to it, when abnormal situations happened around the guild (monster flood, bandit attack etc), the guild can order the adventurer related to the guild to partic.i.p.ate.
Although I can decline the quest, it’s possible that the materials purchased by the guild will have reduced price after this, and worst case being expelled from the guild. Basically excluding the rich people and the n.o.ble being adventurers as a hobby, you can say that it’s impossible for you to decline.
“The content of the quest?”
A certain adventurer raised his voice.
“There’s a report saying that a group of monsters is on the highway north of here heading towards the capital city! Although the Guard corps had already left this city, I want all of you to hurry and follow!”
The information about that group of monsters is too vague. We don’t know the numbers nor the type, so won’t this leads to a confusing fight? The staff begins to put the urgent request on the bulletin board, as well as distributing it to the adventurers. Although there’s no great difference between what’s written here and the one mentioned before, I was drawn towards the reward. The person who partic.i.p.ates and managed to return alive will be given 1 gold plate.
[T.N: Not sure, the raw said “一律金貨1枚”, something like a gold plate but I’m not sure. It should be equivalent to 10 gold coins I think.]
“What should we do?”
When I ask everyone, it seems like we have already decided on the answer.
“Let’s go! The reward is pretty attractive.”
“It’s impossible to refuse anyway. Then the only thing left to do is survive while giving priority to avoiding dangerous position.”
“If Master decides to partic.i.p.ate, then naturally I will follow.”
It seems like it has already been decided. We then head hurried back to the hotel to put on traveling outfit, and then meet in front of the gate facing the north highway. It seems that other adventurers had already gathered too, as there are quite a lot of people. Seems to be around 30 people? If we join the Guard corps that had already moved in advance, it seems to almost reach 100.
“Depart!”
The old man from before gives out the order. Apparently that old man seems to be the Guild Master. When I look at his equipment, it seems that this old man can fight too. When I look at the surrounding adventurer, there’s only one adventurer that looks like a gold-rank, while including us there about 10 people with Silver-rank, and the rest are all consist of Bronze-cla.s.s adventurers.
We head north at a fast pace. The low-leveled adventurers are already out of breath at the front. I guess it can’t be helped as they’ve never had any march training while carrying weapon and armor.
After a while, the Guard corps that are fighting against the group of monsters had finally came into view. Looking from the long distance, it seems like the odds are against us. Isn’t there like twice the number of monsters!?
“Charge!”
The old man pulls out his weapon and runs ahead. Oi oi, is there no strategy at all? It seems that the surrounding adventurers had also readied their weapons and follow the old man.
“I guess there’s no choice but to do it too.”
We followed behind while sighing. The majority of the monsters are goblins and kobolds, but there are also many kinds that could put up a good fight like the orcs and harpies, ogres and large scorpions, as well as tough monsters like Living Armor that can only be handled by people above Silver-rank.
As we enter the attacking range, the adventurers that are able to use magic had started to chant. Fire and ice starts flying. The adventurers that use bows had also start shooting their arrows towards the harpies. We also begin to join on the attacks. When I continuously shoot explosion magic towards the enemy group that is far away from our allies, explosion sounds could be heard, as monster’s torn body parts start flying everywhere. Even with low-leveled enemies, since there are a lot of them, I think I’ll be able to level up quickly.
Claire takes the arrow out of the quiver which she brought more than usual, and fire the arrows one by one towards the enemy in the sky.
The guards had gathered the injured person to the back, and Lelena had focused on long range healing magic. That sure is useful at this situation. Amyl had been removing any monsters that tried to approach the injured person.
The battle situations starts getting better 5 minutes after the adventurers provide their support. The moment we thought that we would be able to win like this, something huge danced in the sky and that huge ma.s.s drops down bringing the guards down with it on impact.
“It’s a Wyvern!”
When I look at the sky, a huge pterosaurs-like monster that is 10 meters wide from tip to tip of its wings flew in the sky. Although it looks more like a bird instead of a dragon, it should be treated like a lesser dragon. There’s no change in the fact that it’s a powerful enemy.
Geez, for such a monster to appear in this confusing fight, I wonder will we be able to return safely?
