Chapter 43: Interview Training
It seems that there’s no one from the village that Amyl and Lelena lives in had any experience working outside. It’s either doing the family business or helping around the house, which according to my standard is something like a half-NEET from my previous life. Since it is said that to enter the Knight Corps required both social standing and fighting power, it’s important that he hardens his mind and practice right now.
I carry the table which I asked to borrow from the hotel bar below, and create a small interview s.p.a.ce. Diabell dressed like an interview official and sits next to me. Claire is standing on the entrance side, being in charge of bringing tea. Lelena and Shallie are playing house on the bed.
And thus, Amyl’s interview training begins. With a knock on the door, the door was opened without waiting for an answer.
“Okay, disqualified.” (Est)
“Eh!?” (Amyl)
I really don’t know whether this guy is useless or not. What are you doing immediately opening the door like that? I point it out and ask him to start again. Again, the door is knocked. Good, he didn’t open it immediately this time.
“Alright. Please enter.” (Est)
“Excuse me.” (Amyl)
Amyl bows and enters the room. Good, you seem to learn something. Amyl closed the door and came in front of the table and sit on the chair. I quickly threw the tiniest fireball.
“Hot! What are you doing!?” (Amyl)
“That’s my line you fool! How many times have I said not to sit down until I said so!?” (Est)
He ignores me while mumbling something. Let’s redo from the sitting. This is the whip of love.
“When you sit on the chair, say “thank you in advance for today”. Then you can proceed.” (Est)
“Y-yes.” (Amyl)
I look at Amyl’s simple resume that consist of experience and record of qualifications. His handwriting is messy…I guess? Although I can read the character of this world, I’m not sure I could differentiate between the ugly one and the good one.
“Erm, Amyl-kun right? 18 years old huh, so young~.” (Est)
“Didn’t you already know that…no, its nothing.” (Amyl)
He became silent after I glared at him. Whispering is strictly prohibited during training. If you keeps on prattling like that I give you a weird nickname. From now on you’re the Smiling Adventurer. Want me to shove a doughnut into that mouth?
[T.N: Sorry, it should be a reference to something, but I have no idea what it is. Either Smiling Adventurer or Laughing Adventurer.]
“There’s no working experience aside from helping with the family business huh…? You, what have you been doing until this year?” (Est)
I make a posture of fixing my gla.s.ses although I’m not wearing any. It’s the posture that’s important.
“Eh? Well I’m just working as adventurer…” (Amyl)
“That can’t really be called as working. Not to mention becoming an adventurer with a girl and being together with your childhood friend until marriage…are you s.h.i.tting with me you Raijuu!?” (Est)
“R-ria…what?” (Amyl)
“My Lord, this has just become and envy grumbles.” (Diabell)
[T.N: If you have no idea what Riajuu mean but still managed to find my site and this novel, start questioning your existence.]
Oops, not good. My true intentions had unintentionally leaked. My flame of envy is nothing new concerning Amyl’s circ.u.mstances. Even in my previous life I had no one to be called as childhood friend. So jealous so jealous so jealous.
“Amyl-dono, why did you want to join the Knight Corps?” (Diabell)
Diabell changed with me and ask the question that I want to hear. As expected of my secretary. How precise. There might not even be a need for me to be here.
“That’s right. Although my life is one of the reasons, I want to protect the people who live in this country. The village where I lived was poor and always troubled with the monster’s attacks. However the knight from the garrison town nearby saved us every time. I want to be the one to help them this time. That is my main reason.” (Amyl)
Ooh, some proper answer came. Since its Amyl, it’s impossible for him to tell a lie. In other words, it’s his real intentions without any hidden motive. I’m not sure whether to say he’s honest or naive. It’s easy to be amazed in front of such a guy.
“Is that so, understood. Let’s end this with that question.” (Diabell)
“Thank you for today.” (Amyl)
Amyl bows and leaves the room. Well, it’s a pa.s.sing mark somehow. It’s not good, but it’s not bad either. Since I can see his enthusiasm, it’s likely that it will go well with the real thing.
Then next is the combat training that he’s been waiting for. Since I’ve never sparred with Amyl before, I wanted to fight with him once. We both held a sword at the inn’s backyard. Amyl is using the great sword that we got from the Dullahan the other day. I can’t be careless.
“This is the first time that I fight against Est.” (Amyl)
“Oh? Am I not good enough as a sparring partner?” (Est)
“Although I’m not sure if I’m good enough as your sparring partner, I’ll go do do my very best.” (Amyl)
It won’t really be a match if you compare Amyl’s and my status. However for a victory or defeat in a fight, the person with superior status won’t necessarily win. I have proven that against the Dullahan the other day.
I directly receive Amyl’s strike with my shield. Although he’s trying to overpower me until his face turns red, my arm doesn’t budge an inch. I just push it back with my shield and greatly breaks his posture. I drove my sword non-stop.
Although he managed to defend against them, there’s too much of a difference in speed between Amyl and me. He received a single blow from the place where he can’t avoid, causing his sword to be flicked in the air.
“I-I lost.” (Amyl)
Amyl suppressed his hand that had became numb with a mortifying expression. Do you think this is over? We’re just starting.
“What are you doing? Quickly pick up your sword. We’ll continue until you can land one hit on me.” (Est)
Amyl who heard that is smiling wryly with tears in his eyes, trying to held his sword again. Although we keep on sparring nonstop from morning till evening, he cant even land a single hit on me. However, he could hold on longer every time we repeat the spar, until finally, where even if I say it’s not a draw, he had become pretty skillful to handle something quickly.
I throw a wet towel towards Amyl who’s lying on the ground breathing roughly.
“Seriously, you don’t hold back at all. How much of my mind do you want to break?” (Amyl)
“…you’re regretting it?” (Est)
“No, its the opposite. If I could hold on against you, I won’t be defeated against anyone in this neighborhood. It seems that I’ll be able to do well with the real thing.” (Amyl)
“Then its good.” (Est)
It seems that he had gained some confidence somehow. Lets pray that today’s training won’t end up in waste. I can do nothing about the real thing tomorrow aside from betting whether he will be laughing or crying.
T.N: I feel like the interview is useless.
