The next morning.
By the time Zi Yi came out of the room, she just so happened to see Qin Ze walking to the kitchen with a handful of vegetables that looked like gra.s.s.
She asked out of curiosity. “What are you doing with that gra.s.s?”
Qin Ze looked at her as if he could not take her anymore. “This is a type of vegetable. You little brat who isn’t used to eating the food of common people, you can’t even distinguish between vegetables and gra.s.s.”
“You’re saying it as if you can distinguish the difference.”
!!
Zi Yi refused to argue and be on the same level as him. She turned around and headed outside.
Qin Ze reminded her. “Don’t go too far. We can have breakfast in around ten minutes at max.”
“Got it.”
The mornings of the northern suburbs of Country D were chilly. The nearby farms had been harvested not long ago and the smell of the soil was everywhere. However, there were all kinds of flowers and plants on the sides of the road.
Walking down a small road was also a pretty good experience.
After walking for some time, Zi Yi finally saw a middle-aged woman who was currently picking vegetables in her field.
There was also a little boy standing next to her. He looked to be around five or six years old and he had blond hair and blue eyes. He was blinking his blue eyes and looking around in all directions; he looked especially adorable.
Both of them soon made eye contact.
Zi Yi smiled at the little boy.
The little boy hastily pulled on the middle-aged woman’s clothes. “Mommy, mommy. There’s a sister over there.”
The middle-aged woman looked up and unexpectedly, she smiled at Zi Yi.
“You must be the daughter of the middle-aged man from before.”
Zi Yi knew that she was referring to Qin Ze.
“Yes.”
The middle-aged woman added and said, “Earlier, your father came and asked for some vegetables. I heard that he’s going to make spring rolls. Is that food from China?”
“Yes. We have lived in China for a long period of time in the past. Therefore, we fell in love with the food there.”
The middle-aged woman nodded her head and bent down to continue picking the vegetables.
Zi Yi walked over and watched her work.
The little boy looked at her with a pair of curious eyes.
Zi Yi rummaged around in her pockets, took out a piece of candy, and gave it to the little boy.
However, he did not dare to take it.
Zi Yi said with a smile, “This is considered as a small thank you for the vegetables your Mommy gave us earlier. We will be staying here for a few days and we might have to come over again to borrow some vegetables.”
The middle-aged woman enthusiastically nodded her head. “No problem. You can come over directly to pick the vegetables. Bell, quickly thank the sister.”
Only then did the little boy named Bell take the candy and sweetly call out, “Thank you, sister.”
The middle-aged woman became even more enthusiastic. “I see that you’re still young. There’s nothing that time can’t heal.”
Zi Yi was momentarily stunned at her words. She somewhat had a feeling that Qin Ze said something bad about her.
However, she did not show it and nodded her head.
Just then, the middle-aged woman took out a handful of vegetables from her basket and handed them to her. “Your father felt bad for taking too much. Take some more back home, these should be enough to make another bowl of salad.”
“Ok, thank you auntie.”
Zi Yi took the vegetables from her and squatted down to chat with the little boy. “How old are you? Are you going to school?”
“I’m five.”
The little boy was not fearful of Zi Yi anymore and started chatting with her.
Even though Zi Yi had changed her face, she was still beautiful. In addition, her voice sounded sweet and both of them became familiar with each other very soon.
Only then did she learn that the middle-aged woman’s name was Sonny. She had an 18-year-old eldest son and he was currently studying. There was still some time before her youngest son started attending school.
She also got to know that there were eight families living nearby. There were two families who had moved to the town from the village recently.
The house they were staying at belonged to one of the families that moved. There was also another house not far away that was empty. However, the middle-aged woman saw a car parked there when she was walking past and someone might have started living there too.
In the end, it was Qin Ze who came out and asked Zi Yi to come back home.
Both of them walked in tandem on the small path and Zi Yi asked, “Did you badmouth about me to the auntie?”
‘I didn’t.” Qin Ze denied it very quickly. Obviously, he was feeling guilty.
Zi Yi coldly snorted and said, “Do you think I wouldn’t know? You said I failed my exams and got depressed. Do you think I’m someone like that?”
Qin Ze defended himself. “Of course not. Isn’t it precisely because you’re not that I dared to cook up such a story?”
“Then why didn’t you say you went bankrupt and got depressed?”
“I only have that measly sum of money. Do you think I need to use such a grand adjective like bankruptcy to describe myself?”
Zi Yi did not hold back and laughed. “What you said makes sense.”
After both of them finished breakfast, Zi Yi got Qin Ze to go out for a walk.
“Where should I go for a walk?”
“Anywhere you like. Just go in the north direction.”
Qin Ze immediately understood her intentions. He then drove the car and went out for a stroll.
Zi Yi sat on a stool in front of the house and looked at the beautiful scenery as she played with her tablet.
The tablet was showing a game interface. However, she was the only one who knew that it was the R&D Center of Country D’s aeros.p.a.ce research lab.
Sometime later, there were sounds of movements nearby.
Zi Yi looked up and when she saw Little Bell standing there, she waved to him with a smile. “Bell, what are you doing here? Come to sister.”
Bell walked up to her and pulled her hand. “Sister, I’ll take you around to play.”
“Where shall we go?”
Bell turned around and pointed in a direction. “Uncle Rupe’s fruits are ripe. Let’s go and pick some fruits.”
Zi Yi did not know where Uncle Rupe’s house, which Bell had mentioned, was. When Bell brought her to the house, she discovered that Bell had brought her to the other empty house his mother previously mentioned.
However, there seemed to be someone inside the empty house right now.
Zi Yi subconsciously crouched behind a clump of trees with Bell and asked, “Little Bell, where are the fruits?”
Bell pointed in a direction.
Zi Yi stretched out her head to take a look and finally saw a cherry tree on the other side of the house. There were currently plenty of fruits hanging on the tree.
She smacked her lips and said to Bell, “Little Bell, wait here. I’ll go and pluck us down some fruits.”
Having said that, she stood up and went behind the back of the house.
The people inside did not seem to notice her. However, it might be that they noticed her, but decided to ignore her.
By the time Zi Yi came to the tree, she reached out her hand and picked a cherry.
Just then, Little Bell who was hiding behind the trees stretched out his head and looked at her hands with a greedy look.
Zi Yi looked at the closed door and beckoned for him to come over.
After Little Bell made his way over, Zi Yi plucked two cherries. One for him and one for herself.
“So sweet.”
Both of them stood under the tree and started eating the cherries.
Just then, the sound of the door opening was heard.
Zi Yi, who had a guilty conscience, subconsciously lifted up Little Bell and ran.
When the man opened the door and saw the two figures running away, he narrowed his eyes before turning to the cherries that had fallen from the tree.
He then coldly said to the other person next to him, “Cut down the tree.”
Having said that, he went back inside.
Zi Yi held Bell and only ran for a short distance before stopping and putting him down.
Unexpectedly, Bell started giggling.
Zi Yi tapped his nose and said, “Little Bell, you still have the cheek to laugh. Now that we’ve been caught, perhaps we can’t go pick cherries in the future.”
Bell stopped giggling and looked at her with a slightly distressed look.
Just then, there was a sudden wave of noise from behind. Both of them subconsciously turned over to take a look. When they saw the cherry tree was chopped in half, both of them were dumbfounded.
