Chapter 1226: Grandpa Li Wants a Divorce (2)
“Let’s get a divorce. After our divorce, I’ll send you to a nursing home. You can stay there for the rest of your life. Don’t step out of it if it’s not necessary.”
Grandpa Li made it very clear what he wanted to do. She was a silly woman who almost caused a tragedy within the family.
How could she give their own grandson some unknown substance?
When Grandpa Li got a call from Old Grandma Xie, he broke out in cold sweat.
Grandma Li had not seen Grandpa Li for many years. She had never expected to see him again under such circ.u.mstances.
He was her husband. He once meant the world to her.
“Are you saying I deserve to die?”
Grandpa Li smiled. “If that’s what you think, then whatever. You said it yourself, so don’t push the blame onto others. If you did die because of me, I am willing to face the consequences.”
Grandma Li turned to look at Li Hang who looked away.
She then looked at Aunt Li. “Mom, you’re getting older. Listen to Dad and enjoy your later years.” Aunt Li could not bear to see Grandma Li so sad but she knew it was the only choice she currently had.
“You’re all trying to push me to a corner. None of you are treating me like a human, especially you. You never wanted to marry me in the first place.”
“Is there any point in bringing up the past? Do you know what is wrong with you? You will never admit that you are in the wrong. Do you feel like it’s always somebody else’s fault? It’s true, I should have persisted back then and never married you. If I hadn’t married you, none of this would’ve happened today.”
Many years ago, Grandpa Li was studying in another town. He was tricked into coming home. When he got home, he saw the house nicely decorated in red. He thought that someone was having a wedding.
To his horror, it turned out to be his wedding.
He resisted. He said he would rather die than get married.
He was still putting up a fight when the Sedan arrived at his house. When the bride realized that he did not want to get married, she jumped into the pond outside the house from the Sedan. Everyone was shocked.
The more appalling part was when n.o.body from her family came forward to save her.
During those days, the families were very traditional. If the bride was not accepted by the groom’s family, she would live in disgrace forever even after returning to her own home.
Grandpa Li was overcome with guilt and jumped into the pond to save the girl.
He continued his studies. He wanted to serve the country after that.
In contrast, she was an ordinary woman from the countryside. She was bound by traditions. They had nothing in common at all.
He had written Grandma Li a divorce letter, but she refused. She tore the letter up in front of him and ate up all the pieces.
She declared that if he divorced her, she would die in front of him.
Grandpa Li could only relent and continue with the marriage.
During the war, he focused wholly on his career.
She remained in her traditional ways, refusing to change.
He hired a teacher to teach her how to read and write, but she did not want to learn.
Their marriage had always been a mistake ever since the start.
He should not have been so soft-hearted.
He should not have given in.
Their lives were entwined together.
He almost felt like his life was a mistake.
